This is my first time watching Godzilla Minus One and this movie had me speechless!! It was amazing and nothing less! Loved the way they portrayed Godzilla in this movie!... What are your thoughts on the movie?

Godzilla Minus One
Feeling as if he unfairly cheated death too many times, Shikishima, a surviving Kamikaze pilot, is attacked on Odo Island along with many war plane engineers by a gargantuan monster. After the engineers die because of Shikishima failing to distract the monster, an overwhelming amount of guilt weighs on him, especially after a homeless woman and a baby move into his home when he returns. Shikishima, now on a personal mission, teams up with a large group of veterans to finally take down the monster known as Godzilla.

You were questioning whether or not Shikishima “doing his job” could have influenced the outcome of WWII. (04:40) It would have made no difference whatsoever. Though Kamikaze attacks were initially fairly successful, by 1945, the Allies had developed very effective defenses against suicide attacks, particularly for destroyers and carriers. In fact, 1945 saw nearly 4,000 Kamikaze pilots and planes lost without sinking anything larger than a frigate. Shikishima would have been extremely unlikely to have ever reached a target, let alone turn the tide of the war. He would have died for nothing and, worse, in this fictional world, Japan would have pointlessly lost the man who ultimately took out Godzilla (at least, for now).
Anyway, good review/reaction. Earned my sub. You should watch Shin Godzilla - it’s also excellent.
woah.. my world just got turned upside down. They really gaslit Shikishima this whole movie. Guess you cant be the main character without any struggles. Really loved the extra tidbit! And im working on the Shin Godzilla YT edit as we speak ;)

The kamikaze attacks were intended to terrify Americans into giving up. They knew they wouldn't be very effective against US ships.
It was purely a desperation move.

People other than Japanese who saw this movie were probably surprised, right? Why does a Godzilla movie, which is supposed to be a fun monster movie, make me cry? and. In fact, the Japanese original Godzilla has had many variations over its 70-year history, and some of them even have plots similar to those in the Monsterverse. Recommended ones are Godzilla (1954), King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962), and Godzilla Final Wars. , Mechagodzilla vs. Godzilla, etc., I think are very interesting.

I think you missed that Koichi was supposed to fly his plane into the side of an American ship and kill himself. That's what Kamikaze pilots did.
