This is all good advice. When they contact me I tell them I don’t pay unless I have the model first and they usually flip. If they are reputable they will share the model with no upfront payment

uh, no. i'm definitely not going to send you a model before i get payment. at least a deposit. i'll send you renders and what not before everything is finalized, but i'm definitely not sending my file to you without being compensated first. that's not how it works. i've been burned in my younger years due to non-payment after delivery of assets. granted i'm also not reaching out to people blindly to offer my services. i only work for people that contact me for my side hustle.
also though, i'm easily searchable and my day job is related to 3d so it all checks out. but again, i'm not reaching out to people cause i know they can't afford me anyway.

First 15 seconds of this reminds me yet again what a beautiful person you are. Thanks for making this video. I've seen this scam increase SO much the past few months. I think some of these folks are charging "two bananas", and they know someone who will do it for "one banana".so they make their bananas that way.
I've only worked with a 3D modeler once, a few years ago - I went to them, they made several versions of the model, and I only paid once they were done.

Meta human is new cool invention, especially for game developers :) Easy way to create super realistic human models. It is worth watching videos showing this technology in practice 😊

good video! I own a large 3d scanner, cnc machine, large format 3d resin printer. Like you i'm clearly someone that does 3d. Only to get unsolicited messages saying "i can do 3d for you". I just delete them. I do reverse image search for all sorts of things, not just in these situations and i do it regularly.. Watermark stuff.. because i find my work on overseas companies websites making out it's theirs.

I admin a large fb group on 3D printing and we’ve built our page on rooting out the scammers. This video is excellent, I’m going to pin it to our page.

I love your group. I'm already a memeber.

I was thinking you were going to go more at the AI approach, of someone just using a generative tool to spew out some model. The text of the message you shared reads like a prompt.

what is a good portfolio page or of the like I can use? it would be nicer, especially for the cell data if I can give them a link to a bunch of pictures and videos.
and it was good to watch so I can also make sure i am not doing anything that would make people think I was scamming them. so thanks for the tips

Artstation is a pretty good one, though it might be a little less reputable than it used to be. Making a website is a little more difficult but it could be worth it; a decently designed and up to date website definitely gives off a professional feel. If you mostly want to show pictures and videos, you could also make an Instagram account specifically for your 3d work (don't put other stuff on there). It can be a little hard to show an IG account to someone who doesn't have an account but they should still be able to see the 20-or-so latest things you posted

As long as you're not actually scamming them. But, yeah, think of this from the customer's perspective. And don't solicit your services to designers.

@@3dpprofessor correct, not to scam people. to help people know I am legitimate. I also recommend a few people or looking in some of the groups I am in to also help. but nice to know things that help me not seem suspicious off the bat. unfortunately I have been scammed by people wanting models. so it has made it for some projects I request a down payment and other things. so I don't want to make it seem like it is a scam but to cover my butt. I never would have thought there would be people that would scam others out of time. but it has happened too often for me not to try to do things to cover my butt. unfortunately those things I know make me sound like a scammer since i want some money up front

Seems to be going around. Read the blog post in the pinned comment. I have a theory.
