i have the exact same issue, all my life i played multiple sports competed in math tests and debates. im the most competitive person youll ever meet. honestly it feels like a curse tho, whenever i play osu i feel like im going to the gym and i have a routine with a small amount of time where i get to play maps that i just enjoy. and whenever i slightly underperform i get pissed at myself and it makes me play even worse. im now trying to shift my focus to singleplayer story games to try and learn how to just... take it slow and try and enjoy things. to anyone with this ultra competitive improvement mindset i highly recommend you take a break and try and enjoy game.
Mrekk sometimes says things like "I never imagined I would be the one to snipe this legendary score", but he never says "I never imagined I could do that". For people like mrekk, whitecat, other #1s and top players... It was ALWAYS possible in their mind..... They ALWAYS knew they could do that... Mrekk had crazy goals when he was FUCKING 5 Digits in his user page. Saying things like how "pp record is definitely doable if I put enough work and discipline". I wish I could recover that user page, the goals he put there are ridiculous, but guess what? He achieved them all. The thing, is that when these people were beginners, they didn't think about or want to be top players, they were just having fun, until something clicked for them. Nice video! ❤
So much truth about just focusing on your own personal milestones and goals being the best mindset, you can only be your best person and the only way to be better is to surpass youself
I've been watching osu! related content since Sep 2023, and started playing then as well, but I'm busy asf (since I'm an actual adult with a business to run and a life to live) so I have like 30 hours of playtime in a year. I love the game but I know I gotta work hard to learn the skills and become reasonably good at it, and it's kinda funny to read people's reddit posts and yt comments, players like Mrekk and Akolibed have been playing this thing for so long, of course you are not at their level, but if you just enjoy the game for what it's worth, you'll find a lot more joy than trying to play a freaking 10 star map when you're a 6 digit. I play mania (not osu!mania but like Stepmania and Etterna) and when I was a beginner I punished myself mentally for not being as good as the top players, but then I just played the f-in game and got quite good at it. It's a game, guys. Just enjoy it. Comparison is the thief of joy.
i think comparing yourself to your past self is good for motivation as it shows your progress. However it depends on how you view it and how you let it effect you. I could play worse one day and compare that to my best score and get demotivated from that. You just need to let it only effect you positively.
@@Someone-ov1ro this is how i felt 3 months ago when i was derusting after a year break! but trust me it wil get a lot better quickly if you're consistently playing again. Just yesterday I got 4 300pp plays when prior to that I only had 2 of them, because you will improve if you're constantly playing a variety of maps not only to get better, but also for fun.
As a gamer and a hockey player, I’ll give my favorite quote from the NHL: “It’s just a game, why you have to be mad?” Just be there to enjoy it, just be there to improve. Just like how people describe in the gym, small gains are the real gains, and you’ll slowly but surely get there, and if you don’t enjoy yourself throughout the long grind, genuinely, just quit, cause then this isn’t the game for you.
I think some competitiveness can be motivating, but other times it can just be demotivating to constantly compare yourself to others. Artists say the same about that mindset - don't get hopeless comparing your art to other artists, instead compare your current art to your older art to see how far you've improved. I've never played OSU but great video!
This just shows how competitive osu is, i went through this mindset at one point and infarct i could be going through it right now cause im just so overly competitive when it comes to any games in general but when i have fun in games that mindset disappears, its clear you need to take a break when your stressed abt the fact your not good enough compared to the top players, frustration does shit to you when it comes to games especially competitive ones
for me i always wanted to be able to play some really hard maps i saw top players playing. its kinda sad how osu works that some people will just be leagues better than others (take someone like ivaxa for example) and it definitely demotivates me knowing damn well that the chances of me ever doing something even close to the plays i like to watch is essentially 0 no matter how much i would dedicate myself to playing osu
When I SEE the number I just think like: "oh... again... that number..." Am I becoming crazy or accoustic on that reaction cuz idk it's just what I'm thinking about it
Man I already have a video on top players explaining the mindset already, don't compare yourself and mind your own improvement cuz comparing yourself and overanalysing something gets you nowhere
@@KAPNOYR I asked for your signature close to the entrance to the ping pong tables. Behind the swiss tables. I was talking about downloading the touhou pokemon game. Really fun game btw.
My mindset is: me hear good song, me click round things to beat, me finish song, me see numbers, me see number under my name grow, me hapi

Trueee. I'm so washed right now that when I see my past top plays I freak out because I could never imagine being that good (even though I was)
