My aunt live just outside a small town but close enough where hunting was illegal still like for the pack of 10 or so deer that live in the small Forrest behind her house the deer where so friendly to 5 of us kids abt 10 at the time and a bunch of grown ups would just be out back hand feeding deer and fawns it was awesome then but dad's friend ran a deer sanctuary off the side of a national forest my God I have never seen a bigger buck in my life sucker had to be 7 or 8 foot tall and 10 or more at the tip of the antlers it was so Intimidating. People have a ton of salt in their skin. We always put out salt blocks during the winter for the horses. And the deer love it too. Keeps horses hydrated during the harsh dry winters.

That’s what I was assuming, I remember watching a video of this guy that setup a trail cam pointing towards a salt block he left in the woods. Throughout the months he recorded all types of animals coming up and licking the block of salt.

People have a ton of salt in their skin. We always put out salt blocks during the winter for the horses. And the deer love it too. Keeps horses hydrated during the harsh dry winters.

I'll add to this in that the reason deer will lick or suck your fingers is for the salt content. I know this because I've had deer do this to me. Also, most think deer are scared of humans, which isn't always the case. Young deer who've never had any contact with humans will absolutely investigate you. I've stood a couple of feet from young deer many times. It's weird when it happens but it definitely happens. I've had them scare the ever living hell out of me sneaking up on me.
