    Thanks, been wanting to see these side by side. To me, NVG-30 is a great value. The Opsin is so close in price to Gen 3 analog that I’d probly just get a PVS-14 at that point.

      Its even more than a very good gen2+ PVS-14.

    You can change the EV on the opsin to get a better exposure. You can overexpose the highlights to gain more light in the dark.

    Honestly, all things considered, I'd rather save quite a bit of money and not have to deal with an external proprietary battery pack or the extra weight. I've got 18650s up the wazzu to feed an NVG30.

    I have dual NVG30s and they're able to keep up with gen 2 analog. The latency is not an issue and the sony starvis 2 sensors can process lights and darks nearly seamless as you can see in the video. I shoot with my NVG30s without a problem. These things are actually pretty legit ! Way way worth it.

    Oh wow what a great comparison. I really don't see $1500.00 worth of difference between these two at all. At $2k you might as well try to find a used PVS-14 or go with thermal, otherwise the NVG-30 seems to be the way to go.

      A used PVS-14 Gen2+ or Gen3 is a solid performer that's been tried and tested in combat by militaries around the world for decades with well understood and mastered technology behind them.
      The NVG30 is the only digital I would ever seriously consider because it has good performance to price (for digital), other than that my trusted Photonis 4G tube blows even the most expensive digital out the water. It's honestly a bit cheeky asking for analog PVS-14 prices for a digital unit of considerably worse performance.

    Can you recommend a good high capacity 18650? Have the NVG 30, haven't really been able to get out and really test its capabilities quite yet, but would like some good strong secondary batteries. Plus, am considering setting up a helmet to accommodate a power pack that I can plug into the NVG 30 for longer duration use...thanks again...great video!

  • @VK6AB-
    @VK6AB- 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Realistically you have to look at the low light performance - that sorts out all night vision capable devices, the OPSIN is a genuine starlight only device, the sensor in the opsin is used in the DoD IVAS program for good reason. Also note the OPSIN has the ROI function which is used to look through complex lighting environments, you couple that with EV adjustment to get an optimal image (i noticed you didn't use this function and its specifically designed to deal with the situation you filmed). If you spend time with the OPSIN you will work out, that its a good device and can see right out to 1200nm - no other mass market, non-mil, digital device can do this. This means you can use a 1050nm illuminator which can not be seen by conventional filmed/filmless G3 IIT. The reason the OPSIN has the battery pack and weight, is because its fully balanced on the helmet - if you weigh the battery pack and the OPSIN you will see they are nearly identical weights.

    • @alphawolfgang173
      @alphawolfgang173 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      the 1050nm part is very interesting to me, being able to illuminate without conventional tubes seeing it seems like an extremely underrated part... i dont know much about this stuff but what little ive read that seems like a major point few talk about. id love to see a video comparing some pvs14 and opsin with that 1050+

    • @DjAlonDevil
      @DjAlonDevil 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@alphawolfgang173 Analog will still be able to detect the source of the light unless filters are put in place. At that point, the flashlight is going to be very dim to Opsin. Plus, Photonis/NNVT NVT-7 tubes do see a bit into that spectrum as well. SiOnyx did release a 1050nm IR light, but I have not seen any performance videos of it. So I have no idea how it would actually perform.

    • @aesthetic8780
      @aesthetic8780 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thats the reason why we have Gen2+ with 1100nm IR spectrum.

    • @VK6AB-
      @VK6AB- 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@DjAlonDevil This is not correct, only specific types of Gen2 - Gen 3 taps out at about 980nm. Current Photonis G4+ see out to 1064nm. The 1050nm performs like a modest torch but is effective.

    For high light environment, set the setting to 90Hz, 2D noise off, color mode and lower the EV gain. For low light, set it to 30Hz, 2D noise on, monochrome and turn the EV gain up. NUC is conflicting, some tests show to be useful during low light and others don't. So you can play around with it. Same with ROI.
