- Consider this video a starting point to the conversation to the lore about our new Daedric Prince, Ithelia, who will be making her debut appearance when Gold Road drops in early June '24. As a long-time lore nerd, I'm thrilled, but wow, is there a lot to go over. I'm expecting at least a couple more videos in this series before I'm through it all.
Chime in if you have opinions, but please keep PTS spoilers out of the comments. (Thank you!)
Part 2 is now up! You can find it at: • ESO: LORE DIVE: Itheli...
See you on the Gold Road!

Hi, everyone! If you liked this one, I'm happy to say part 2 is up!

The realms of the Diedric princess are more like their physical bodies. When they show up as what we see them as is more like an avatar of who they are not actually them.
Awesome video. Love these lore related showcases as they hit close to one of the reasons why I love this game; just so much to it. Very excited for the new chapter and quest lines as it will no doubt; take me even deeper into the lore surrounding this game. Much thanks for your work on this. Looking forward to many more videos. :)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
And yes - Elder Scrolls lore is amazing, and I'm super excited for the new stories. The planning behind the Ithelia reveal is stunning ... and I must stop there, lol.
"And what about Meridia?"
I find it pretty funny that most of Tamriel sees her as "good" when she literally enslaves her supplicants... 😅
As for Ithelia... I for one welcome our Daedric -Overlord- Prince of Paths. 🎉FREE WILL BABY!!! 🎉
Yeah, Meridia's ruthless, but she seems to consistently be on the side of protecting Nirn. My impression is that she's a general w/a war to win and uses her tools/pawns/mortals as she needs to. It's hard to assign good & bad to daedra.
I'm working on part 2 of the Ithelia lore series now, and... her version of free will is highly problematic, unfortunately. Yet she also doesn't seem to relish destruction, either. No easy answers.
@@Tamriel_Tidbits Yeah, but the ambiguity _is_ a big part of what makes Daedra so interesting. 😁
Great video! You are an amazing storyteller. Please keep up the lore videos. I drive for a living and listening to these helps get me through my workday. Well done!
If you listen while driving, it took you extra effort to put in this comment, and thank you for that! Also, being called an "amazing storyteller" is the highlight of my week - which has been awesome so far - so thanks for that, too!
Your wish is in progress of being fulfilled, as I'm working on the next lore video this week.
Thanks for listening!
24:10 This, for the lack of the better word, effs up the entire essence of the Doom-driven heroes who were sent in Nirn for different purposes. Divine or Daedric in origin, every hero in the series impacts the game and the future in some ways. Saying that they all come from Ithelia is a huge spit in the face of the 30 years of carefully crafted lore of The Elder Scrolls.
I can see what you mean, but I genuinely don't think that's true. I believe the Magna Ge and Ithelia concepts have been in play behind the scenes for at least 12 years. The first mention of the Magna Ge, and reference to the book the Nine Coruscations and Memno-Li, was in a book called "The Exegesis of Merid-Nunda" found in Coldharbour in the base game. The concept of the Prisoner as the destroyer of the Towers has been around longer than that. I really think this has been the plan for a long, long time. Whether or not you feel it works is a different matter, but ZOS doesn't have the ability to "go rogue" on something this big; it had to be planned w/Bethesda.
You are my new favorite TES lore youtuber! Great work! Keep it up!
Thank you! Welcome to the channel, and thanks for watching! I'm working on the next installment in this series now. :)
Quality content! Just discovered your channel and I'm loving everything about it - liked and subbed!
Welcome, and thank you! That's great to hear. :)
Great video, Zells! Really looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts on Ithelia. I can't wait to (hopefully) hear your take on the Boethra book. I, as a very novice Lore Hound, may have interpreted some things differently because I'm not completely solid on Creation Lore (just being honest, haha). Keep em coming! For the Lore!
Thanks, Katie! Great to hear from you!
Man, those Boethra books... tbh, woulda had this vid up way earlier, but first I had to spend a few weeks staring at those pages and wondering how many steps I could take before I was COMPLETELY over my head, lol. Is, like, *anyone* "solid" on creation lore? If you know that person - please send them my way. :D
For the lore!
Daedra don't really fall under the mortal perception of good or evil, they simply are.
Good point. "Good and evil" then, are a matter of perspective - are the mortals harmed by the Prince's action or not? It always comes back to perspective w/Elder Scrolls lore.
Shes a Magna ge in line with Magnus and meridia so more in Favour of the Mortals
While I partially agree with you, the ideas of good and evil come from the mortal kind, and mortal kind descended from the Ehlnofey, who are themselves spirit beings. In a sense I think that good and evil, in the Elder Scrolls, are descended directly from spirits and from the concepts in Oblivion, not vice versa. In this way the Daedra are good and evil, and actively act good or evil, however, they are more open minded than man or mer and so have nuance in what they do. It's not that they cannot be good or evil, it's that they better understand the good that comes from negative traits and the opposite therein.
It's how Mehrunes can be created with good despite being made by Magna Ge, the Magna Ge had an inherent sense of morality, which they passed to the Ehlnofey and eventually fell to humanity. Mehrunes was good, but he "cracked his face", he found the tarnishing aspects of being born a god of hope and the negative aspects that could balance out his good. Even "evil" princes like Molag Bal (which I feel is undeniable considering Lamae Bal, etc), manage to fit their evil nature into an aspect of good, for instance, joining the house of troubles to spur dunmer, or testing khajiit to keep them weary on the path.
This is just my own opinion, I get what you're saying and I don't mean to start an argument or anything; I just think it's cliche for them to be neither good or evil, and annoying to have people clarify they're neither when unneeded. I believe that morality stems from Oblivion and was placed into the mortal races by virtue of their ancestors, not imposed onto the gods by mere mortals.
I loved this! Very surprising that you could find some tidbits in older zones and games.
Your in depth research gave me Drewmora vibes - so very excited for the next installment.
Personally, I’m on the fence about the addition of Ithelia - she feels very OP? Or maybe I’m just desensitized to the other Princes because I’ve interacted with them for years 😂
Thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed it!
"Tidbits" is in the channel name b/c how I feel the lore is built - a bit here, a bit there, put them all together and it's extraordinary storytelling. So I like to gather those bits and put them together for folks.
I see what you're saying about Ithelia, but given the amount of time they've been working on this (she was actually seeded years ago, but I can't say more right now), I do have faith in the story overall. *crosses fingers* We'll see!
I don't know any of this and honestly its fascinating
It really is - so much involved. Dense and super intriguing... I'm nowhere near done unpacking it all, lol.
Wouldn't forcing everyone to forget Ithelia be actually against the coldharbor compact?
Wow, interesting. Had to stop and think about that for a day.
As I understand it, the Compact prevents the Princes from appearing on Nirn, but not from affecting it. Cultists of all stripes run around doing their masters' bidding, and that's w/in bounds... so probably not against the actual terms, but definitely violates the, uh, "spirit" of the agreement.
Thanks for that comment!
Not against a Prince that was never bound by that contract, even so, Mora doesn't need to invade Nirn to mess with mortal memories
They've adapted Sophia and the Demiurge for ESO as Ithelia and Mora.
There's a lot of Gnosticism in TES lore, but that particular philosophy isn't my strong suit. I missed the Ithelia/Sophia comparison, and it's fabulous. Thank you! I'll have to read up on Sophia... in between getting the next video out. :)
I think the human need to classify things in a binary manner trips people up with the Daedra. There are no "good" or "bad" Daedra as their nature is alien to mortal concepts of morality. They simply are and would behave in the manner they do regardless of what anyone thinks of it. The question is really, "Is this Daedra's intentions good or bad for me at this moment?" and not presume affection or preference on the Daedra's act. Daedra are forces of nature. One can love a storm, but the storm will destroy your home and yourself if it's in it's way and have no thought or guilt about doing it. It's why while I will work for hire for Daedra in the game, I know worshipping them is a futile measure as they don't really care about mortals outside of how they can help the Prince accomplish their goals.
Very well said!
What mic do you use?
It's an Audio-Technica ATR2100x; pretty cheap mic.
@@Tamriel_Tidbits your audio sounds good 👍 do you edit it a lot in post or is that just you're mic?
@@jonathannewsted4035 Not a lot, but I do have an audio preset I drop on the tracks. It filters out background noise and keeps the track from sounding tinny, compensates for the cheap mic. I don't know much about audio settings, but I fiddled around building the preset profile to make sure it still sounds like me. I probably should also mention I have some vocal training and am consciously putting effort into making it a good listening experience. I often do multiple takes, usually w/different inflections to see what works best.
