That’s the reason why I love using my spinning tackle instead. I fish both salt and fresh, majority of the time when fish hit my lure, I’m not sweeping a hook set. Once it hits their mouth, a small drag against the opposite direction is enough to hook them.

What are you using to secure that drop shot weight to your rod? As in: the pre-rigged rod that's sitting in your garage, how are you keeping the weight so close to the rod with putting the hook in a hook keeper?
I use a revo rocket spinning reel at 9:1 on a 7 foot medium fast action rod as finesse. I dont set the hook at all on that. I reel down and bend my at the knees at the same time then just stand up. I rarely lose a fish on spinning rod also. I lose way more fish jigging. I have gotten into the habit of letting them run with a jig and setting the hook up and away from the direction of travel. During crank bait fishing I just step away from the bite and turn my body away from the fish. It loads my rod and give me a solid feel. jerk bait fishing I dont even do that. Every twitch is a hookset lol

Hey you got my sub! At about 7:30 you mention that you use a finesse fluorocarbon leader. Can you explain what you mean by that? is it just a light lb test line that you use as a leader or is there some other reason it's called finesse? Thanks again!

I was fishing trout with a spinning rod the other day and this was my main problem. I was getting lots of bites but i was setting the hook way too aggressive. When I barely pulled the rod and reel it in, i wouldn’t lose a fish.

For years all I did was set the hook by reeling and it worked. This morning I had two big ones come off on me though.
