Today I will be sharing Marilyn Monroe's favorite red Lipsticks you can still buy today.
The following is an excerpt from Red Lipstick: An Ode to a Beauty Icon by Rachel Felder.
A crimson mouth was an essential component of Marilyn Monroe’s bombshell identity; her pursed, full lips and the soft, sulky voice that emerged from between them oozed appeal and a magnetic, ultra-womanly allure. Along with her platinum blond hair, red lipstick was the cosmetic equivalent of the slinky, low-cut dresses and high heels that were her sartorial trademark.
But it was more than that: red lipstick served to enhance many of the characters she played. In roles like Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Chérie in Bus Stop, red lipstick was the ideal accessory to underscore her characters’ femininity and seductiveness.
The application of red onto Monroe’s lips on film sets was methodical and strategic: her makeup artist, Allan “Whitey” Snyder, used several shades of the color at a time, with a darker iteration near the edges of the lips and lighter versions toward the center to create an intensely accentuated pout. But the actress’s seductive persona wasn’t limited to just her movie roles: even o duty, a staple of her look was a liberal application of her favorite shade, Max Factor’s Ruby Red. Although that brand is no longer available in America, it’s still popular in Europe, where four wearable versions of red were introduced in 2016 as the Marilyn Monroe Lipstick Collection. One of the options is her beloved Ruby Red.Bus Stop, red lipstick was the ideal accessory to underscore her characters’ femininity and seductiveness.The exact red lipstick shade Marilyn Monroe wore is still available today!

Marilyn wore max factor ruby Tuesday and and Revlon fire and ice. Whitey Snyder her make up artist did confirm she wore these colours. I love Marilyn and bleach my hair and wear red lipstick everyday ❤❤
Marilyn used to wear orangey red lipstick. She had very white teeth so it suited her, but not everyone. But she also wore a true fifties red.
Kiss Me Coral is definitely that orange-red, I bought it recently and it’s surprisingly really pretty. It’s so easy to just throw on for a red because it’s sheer but can be built up.

I have got Max Factor Ruby Tuesday. I got it within the last 5 years. I think looking at a channel similar to yours , that claimed it was Marilyn's colour . Maybe it's just the same as the Ruby red. I like the vintage doll one and the Kiss me coral.
Another brilliant and well researched video. I live in Australia and we no longer have a large range of Max Factor products . It’s actually quite sad that the company is all but gone , given the huge influence they had on the evolution of cosmetics in the last century .

Max Factor is part of the Cover Girl brand of cosmetics. Before Max Factor was did continued in the States, I always noticed a similarity between the two brands before I knew it was under the same ownership.

For lipsticks that are available today, I would say that Besame's Carnelian would be a Marilyn-appropriate color.

I really love the Revlon kiss me coral and love that red. I love Revlon lippies because they are so creamy and satiny. I am sure the Besame lasts longer but texture is everything to me. Love your channel.

The Revlon kiss me coral and max factor ruby red and i also like Guerlain a lot! Those are my favorites.
We use to be able to buy Max Factor in the 80’s. I always wore Ruby red and to this day I only wear blue reds because of it. besame is a lipstick that doesn’t bleed outside the lip lens, that may be why you find it harder to apply. I love them because I find it hard to totally match their colours. Avon had a few awesome reds. My favorite was Bandana red. Another great video♥️

Hi love the red lipsticks. They are all really pretty and I have a hard time keeping it in my lips as for some reason I wind up licking it off or the lipstick fades too quickly. Maybe if I put red pencil first ? And than put Vaseline on top might keep. It on. .? Love this segment and looking forward to eyeliner one if you have that one too 💄🙏💛💋

Kiss Me Coral should at least make a good mixing shade. A lot of lip colors can be improved with a swipe of something orange. Love That Red is beautiful.

Out of all the lip color I like 2nd one from the left side coral red.
All the reds were lovely. The corals gave you a cool vintage vibe, but I find them kinda little ol' ladyish usually.

Where do you live??? I live here in California and the city of Burbank still has the original store open. Yes Max Factor can still be purchased here at least where I live so not sure where you got that information from. -Mercy(sorry for the name confusion I am on my dad's phone at the moment)

One thing I would say to anybody wearing red is to always lying your lips because red has the habit of bleeding. It was something that somebody else was into vintage taught me. Another thing, there is a Nyx shade called Wife Goals and it's a blue red and it's fantastic! If I remember a few years ago Revlon came out with a series of Reds that look good on everyone, and I wonder if they still make them.

I would say "Fire and Ice." "Cherries in the Snow" was too blue-toned for MM. "Cherries is the Snow" formulation changed a bit in the early 2000s to more of a pink, but it was originally a very cool black cherry color.
Revlon makes the best lipsticks. I tried Besame lipsticks in the Misty Coral and one other color and they were both bad. The texture is weird, and the shape of the lipstick makes it awkward to apply.

Max Factor does here in the United States sells 2 red lipsticks called ruby tuesday and Marilyn Monroe lipstick. Revolution brand also sells a Marilyn Monroe set with a red lipstick with matching red lip liner💋💄🎀 -Mercy(sorry for the name confusion i am on my dad's phone at the moment)
