One of the low points of this game, according to this review, could be considered crucial in dungeon crawls, so they do not feel repetitive or even inconsequential: you need a reason to explore, if it just feels like a giant hallway with rooms, with no special features or encounters, it gets boring pretty fast 🤨
It is am enjoying it. But it's not to bad to buy&get items from the random battles. Ya it sucks when a character you had with cool items dies than when you send 6000 to try and bring them back the void just shallow them up lol. I do wish like you could see the skills your going to learn. I also think different races learn skills differently. Like my two half onis already had a small regenerate and when becoming monk they learned regenerate at 5 while my other races learned it at like 7.
@@zerokura Death mechanic sounds great, class system not so much; the way stats can change just sound like an artificial requirement to grind. Ways I could think to fix the class system: 1. let characters keep stats or stat increases between class changes 2. let characters swap into classes they were previously sans stat minimums 3. FFS, don't give negative stat boosts on level up!
Yeah, it's very blatantly a classic Wizardry game with the name changed. It's important to note that the same team also made Wizardry Labyrinth of Lost Souls for the PS3/PC, as well as the remake of Class of Heroes. Looking at the review footage it looks like exactly like a Wizardry game with some modern tweaks, and listening to the review is him describing Wizardry games.
I've downloaded it, im playing it and I love it. But, there are few buts and questionmarks in comparison to the other games in this specific genre, which is called Wizardry like. I consider myself no expert on this genre, i just like to play these games here and there. First think notable about this type of games is amount of grinding you need to do. And the combat and looting gets repetetive. It is sort of how it goes, you repetetively grind with no need of magic use. Just all atack, repeat, loot. Until that one moment, which usually comes in third dungeon or a third floor when you meet something that will trash you out and if you dont run it is tpk, if you run its just one or two death characters. And this sort of situations happen in Labyrinth of Zangetsu and thats good. Lets start with pros. 1) there is no powerleveling. In other wizardry like games is a posibility to reload levelups until you get the desired stats increases. Not in this one, so you have to go with what you get from RNG. And thats fun. 2) There is no saving at higher difficulty. I havent tried a resurecting, so i dont know if there is a failure chance and permanently lost characters, hopefully is. Because it sort of makes the lot in narration of these games. And a party is more interesting when you have to recruit a new member and grind him from level one. Cons (or things i did not like): 1)Samurai and Paladin dont learn spells, like they usually do in other wiz-like games. 2) there are different rules in running from a combat in different areas. In a first tutorial dungeon and first two areas if you want to run from a combat you just decide to run and party gets away. But in a third area (dwarwen city) if you decide to run. Enemies have full round of atacks on your party. 3) there are no obscure spell names (like dios and badios for heal wounds and make wounds in a first wizardry game). Well its a new game, but these little details like you dont know what you can cast until you try it out is what makes this genre fun. 4) Also no cursed items and automatic identification of items. 5) dungeon layout is quite bland. 6) minimap and automatic mapping. This game just go too easy on you. But well there are deaths, there is a feeling of dread. There is leveluping RNG. But its all quite new player to this genre friendly. My personal experience: Ive started with a group of six thieves with intention to changeclass them into warriors because of some basic millitary training before they start to dabble with magic or some advanced classes. 8 hours in and my cleric is able to change class into the ninja. But on the other side 2 characters died and i've recruited rather new ones.
I been enjoying the game do wish i could see what skills am going to learn and the grind is not so bad but if your not into that kind of game play i can understand. The Etrian Odyssey collection is going be fun. When i buy it ill own all 6 numbers games.
I'm gonna pass on this one. I love the basic formula of dungeon crawl exploration, but Etrian's more interesting classes and dungeon gimmicks have spoiled me against the same-old, same-old.
im still surprised that etrian odyssey is one of the few, if not the only game in this genre worth giving a damn about. youtube comments please prove me wrong 🙏

All this did was make me wish for another Etrian Odyssey
Looking forward to the switch remasters or are you more interested in a completely new game?
well if the origins collection sells well in pc and switch,
maybe we see some new title in the future.
Some of those systems make this sound like its mechanics were inspired by the original Wizardry. Brutal game, but quite fun!

I actually really like the death cost, that mechanic owns
The death mechanic sounds SO MUCH like Wizardry. In fact, the entire games looks and sounds like a Wizardry game. They were HARD back in the day!

Looks the same as class of heroes and the classes list are even the same name for jobs. Not that its a bad thing from the same publishers.
