The Chickamauga Dam and The Awesome Power of Nature

- We have had so much rain over the past few months we are around 12" above average and recently we have had more heavy rain so the Chickamauga Dam is raging at the moment. I though it would be fun to take Barret down to get a look on the way to a project.
Hydroelectric power is a great source of energy and we need to keep these great structures going strong.

i loved fishing on the dams back home on the Alabama river....great fishing
I used to go to Chatt State. Everyday I would eat my lunch down there by the river! Pretty place when sunny!
Its really peaceful at times, and there is always a nice breeze. I move back to Chatty in a month, so I look forward to getting back down there.
I kind of like the power of the flood waters, though. Majestic! Plus, it is a good time to catch giant catfish when the water is high! The big ones like to get close to the gates while they are open to eat whatever comes washing down to them. I have heard of people snagging 100+ lbs fish during flooding!
Thanks for the video! Have a good one, brother!
its been a long time since my last visit to the dam. need to stop by next time i visit the family in Ft. Oglethorpe.
I was there just 2 months ago. There was a fishing pier down that ramp. Hope it is just submerged and didnt wash away.
It's awe inspiring!
We have to Englewood & Huffman dmas inthis area.
Some one is always drowing, they get out on a boat and get too close to the dam.
Some times it's weeks before they find the body.
This is actually quite beautiful.
When all the rain fell just over a week ago in Southern Alberta and the downtown as well as the Stampede Fairgrounds flooded including the football stadium and Saddle Dome which was flooded 10 rows from ice level, some of the water had to be released from the Gardiner Dam, the level of the South and North Saskatchewan river rose quite a bit. In Saskatoon where I live the street that runs along the river flooded across the road. In Western Canada we've seen the awesome power of nature.
Never saw anything like this before! Like a gigantic 160 megawatt wave park!
That is for sure!
Very cool. I assume it was part of FDR's TVA? (In college I used to work at a dam and it was my job to lower the gates when the lake level got too high and see that the correct amount of water was being sent to Fort Worth. That job had its moments.)
It was cool with the breeze coming off the water :)
Yes! It is a great city aye! :)
We have had several drownings there too. You would think people would know better.
I agree! :)
Yes, FDR is correct. It is bitter sweet :)
It is an engineering feat! :)
The Dams create power but have their drawbacks also I guess.
The fishing pier is totally underwater - the one where the steps lead to...
Beats the hell out of walking around a noisy concrete downtown. Nice, exciting sound. Torrent music.
Barret went there also and mentioned he would go there at times. I bet it is peaceful when the flood waters subside aye? :)
That is true! :)

Awe, it will come soon? :)
I couldn't believe how small the guy looked over there fishing :)
I think they guy fishing there thought they would all be there to escape the waves :)
Yesterday the City of Toronto was hit with heavy rain and flooding. The City of Toronto like Calgary will bounce back.
It is pretty cool no? :)
