I know growing up I would play my dad in both. My dad isn't and never was a big video game guy. So it should've been easier for me to win on both. Yet I would lose a lot on madden and win most of the time on NCAA. I know I was more skilled even at that time compared to hm. This was when I first started playing video games. So I think that proves the point of which game is a better simulation football game.

Yes! Everything went bad when Odell Beckham made that catch! Then the Madden team decided to make 2 man catch animations in Madden 16 to replicate it smh.
i use to get mad when i had a turnover but after looking at the repaly it was my fault . it seemed more rewarding when getting a big play in ncaa vs madden .
True and at the same time (rarely) when I chuck a deep ball to my receiver who is playing against a superior corner and my receiver wins the jump ball battle it gets me so hyped up and it feels way more rewarding because I know I got lucky and that 9/10 times the corner wins that battle.
In NCAA 14, if a QB is a 99 ovr, he’ll play like a 99 OVR. if he a 60, he’ll play like a 60. Madden on the other hand. Every Player is Tom Brady, Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson.
K J Try playing with Barry Sanders in Madden 19. The horrible running mechanics make all running backs suck equally. The only thing that truly separates them is speed and that only helps when you’re able to break past the secondary.
Because they want to appeal more to casual gamers. They adopted a pick-up and play type of system rather than a simulation based game that requires skill and practice. It sucks.
80% of the physics issues madden suffers from are simply because the ball is not truly free. If the ball wasn't controlled by the A.I. in unbiased ways we would be in a much better place.

Agreed. The game manipulates everything to fit what they deem the difference of difficult and rewarding. Quarterback accuracy isn’t something we’ve truly had as an actual meaningful thing since at least Madden 2006 with the QB vision. Now, if the game wants to change the accuracy variable based on the accuracy “skill”, it just rewards itself to impose on the player as “difficulty” by just making ridiculous decisions (IE - throw where the receiver was, at the exact spot he was, not where he will be - but exactly where the CPU controlled linebacker currently is-whom turns full 180 to make an OBJ catch). I hate this so much. Nothing in Madden 18 is free. You win when the game wants you to, and the game will not let you win when it decides it wants you to lose. The only way to free yourself from that is to drop the difficulty (absolutely absurd) and power through.
Spot on brother. If I have Gronk in 1v1 coverage, against an average skilled DB, or undersized DB, I should be rewarded for making and finding that mismatch. But you'll never find that in this Madden because it's animation driven and it's too concerned with letting below average players find success
My problem 2 biggest problem with madden is everyone on my team tears there shoulder. I use the Browns and Jamie Collins Joe Thomas Joel Bitinio Keven Zietler Christian Kirskey every year always get injured for 5 to six weeks thats not to unrealistic but i can take the Qb i drafted who is a mobile qb not slide or dive when i run or get hit sticked from hell when i run out side of the pocket and the guy gets up perfectly time i don't want my Qb to get hurt but damn that is so unrealistic its not even funny. Also scouting continues to suck and not fun compared to recruiting you could be 1-3 star program and only draw the interest of 1-3 star recruits but you can always find that gem in the class that will turn your program around but in Madden 18 when i scout guys in the 4th-7th round and they always come up worse than they are projected so the game does not allow you to find the those late round gems. I played a UAB dynasty and found a mobile Qb who was 65 overall but went he up by 10 or 15 points after i fully scouted.
Its not just in in the sports games look at Mass effect 1-3 minus minus the ending of 3 which EA rushed i don't blame the programmers and developers for that and then loot at Amdromeda and you will see how lazy EA has gotten with their development of games. but then you look at a company like Bandai who especially as far sales go in America they continue to make quality games. You look at the Tales of series the games are not ground breaking but i have never bought a game for the Tales of games and thought i wasted my money and hell i didn't buy Madden 18 my sister goit it for my Brother in law and only paid 20 bucks for it i think its a total waste of money. Also don't buy any ofthe Tales of games if you don't like JRPG's because thats what it is.
Wow, NCAA 14 makes Madden 18 look horrible in comparison to defense. NCAA 14 has its flaws, cheating AI, Momentum issues, glitches, but it appears way better gameplay wise than Madden.
Patrick I. Yup one of my favorite glitches is when u take a defensive end and play him much wider than u would ever see in real life. U can sack the qb or at least get a hit on him every play when u do this and it eliminates guys trying to roll with there qb to the outside. The offensive lineman will either slide out to far and u can beat him to the inside or not slide out far enough and u win to the outside. And it really does not effect run defense if u have ur defense in a really aggressive style. Lining them up to the outside destroys the outside run and blitzing safeties and lbs shuts down the inside run.
The NCAA mechanics are clearly better. As a player, you had to use strategy on multiple levels. Id hate to play a newer game that had poorly implemented player inputs overpowered by canned RnG based animations.
Next Gen ruined this. I still play Madden 25 heavily. Custom draft class, bad teams play like bad teams and you control of the outcome in user vs user situations
Ryan, I would argue that NCAA Football was the stepping stone for what we see in Madden games with the animations. If you notice and look closely enough, there are a few weird type of animations that occur in NCAA Football with tackles and players falling over each other, players getting up and running into each other and then diving on the ground as if they got hit like a wrecking ball, etc. NCAA Football is still great and by far my favorite "recent" football game to play, but it by no means is in the clear from having coding issues. The last Madden that I felt was any good was Madden 2004....and that's saying something. Thanks for the commentary and opinions! Love the stuff.

To be completely honest. I just don’t think you can compare these two games. There are so many factors that make these games play differently. I’m in college for psychology and one thing I can use that major for in this situation is the 3rd variable problem. There’s simply just too man other factors. I feel your single clip breakdown videos were more better than these NCAA comparison videos of recent because you truly were showing the problem with the game other than comparing. Especially with a game from 4-5 years ago that played on a last gen console. Unexpected bias kicks in and people start believing NCAA was a better game than it actually was. Don’t get me wrong it was a fun game but it too had so many problems. We just tend to look past it because Madden 18 is the current issue. Just love giving my opinion man. I can’t change your opinion so at the end of the day this is an endless battle of us trying to change each other’s minds which will never happen. The reason your going to see most people agree with you that it’s better is because that’s what channels like these are for. This video are for people who feel the same way as Ryan. Speaking of third variable problems, EA's refusal to state the game rules (what the player attributes do) and then proceeding to lie about how some stats work when they do give info (dev claimed strength did X, controlled trials showed no influence on X between 0 and 99 str over hundreds of plays). In Madden, counter-playcalls don't work, its rules are hidden, and it's dominated by animations. We do not have enough evidence to conclude that this wasn't the case in earlier games, but we have enough to conclude that it has consistently been hot garbage for a decade. Forget this "good player should win most times" message in this video, the game's rules are so hidden that I can't reliably identify a "good player" at something or what to do to develop one. It's an environment where Gutt Fox is a more reliable source on how the game works than the development team's official statements. I spit on that reality. It's why I don't have the game, despite that I'd love to play a football game that works well.
Too true....the older Madden games made sure it didn't happen but now Madden just like the NFL is now a offense league/game now... remember back then it was all about the defense...
Madden 08 and 09 had best my players, you would do the combine, hire agents, get drafted, and do freaking math tests. Like whered all that fun go. Now you just pick a team and custom stats. I miss when the 40 yd dash and how many bench presses you could do would determine your strength and speed
Facts on ncaa 14 i could use uva and play alabama and it would come down the the wire on hiesman but on madden 18 they force u to play behind at least once in every 3 games i play against the cpu they block a kicked or punt on madden to me it feels as if youre forced to play behind but on 14 its hard because the other teams skill and your skill u wont get bs block fgs and punta wheres there is not counter and its out of your hands or bs passes that go straight to the defender or makes it so the passes are always in places the defender has a chance to make a play on just because its animation based and forces them so much and id rather play Madden 25 and Ncaa 14, im actually thinkin about starting an online franchise with my frienda on M25 because the one we have on m18 pisses me off so much i cannot stand the gameplay

When my friend and I were playing Madden franchises he would just pick the fastest players and regardless of how high of a rating my DB's were his WR's would ALWAYS be open, especially if he ran that stupid crossing pattern where my linebackers and corners would all collide and he would then have 2 WR's wide open and a TE streaking down the middle, wide open.
If you put madden 18 graphics into madden 25 you will have the best madden ever. Madden 25 graphics weren’t the greatest but the gameplay was so good. Madden 18 graphics are good but the gameplay and how the game cheeses you sometimes. When I play on rookie I cream the other team. When I play on pro it’s just a bunch of cheese. On Ncaa it’s just best all around it’s better than any madden. I love Ncaa more than madden. Sure ncaa has some glitches but madden is worse
I agree to a point. I play Madden religiously like most football fans. Bad QBs in Madden 18 may throw that I formation, PA streak for completions but there are lots of times that a wide open Medium range pass is missed by a ridiculous amount, ah-la Neil O'Donnell vs. Cowboys. Right at a defender, his own receiver at least 10 yards overthrown. I have also missed several times on the PA play by overthrowing the WR. What I don't like about bad QB play in Madden is the inconsistency. A bad QB should miss guys but not THAT badly.
It’s animations. The only animations NCAA really included were in tackling. The pass engagements are always psychics and ratings. From Madden 16 to 18, it was almost purely animations in pass engagement. Now in 19, there’s a really balanced mix of both that I’m really enjoying. When my TE is 2 steps in front of the LB covering him, I can get it to him without an animation triggering that would have the LB latch onto him and drop the ball like in 18. It feels more fluent in Madden 19 compared to 18. Though hit sticks ruin the fluidity.
NCAA was much harder of a game. Madden lets you make fantastic catches every play. When I did a Road to Glory mode a few months back, I threw so many interceptions. And it's because Madden has been so simplified and become so forgiving that you can make stupid decisions when throwing and come away with a huge play. NCAA 14 makes you really work to get a good result and doesn't reward mediocrity
I recently bought an xbox 360 to play all the old games I loved from back in the day and NCAA 14 is one of them. Now I played the hell out of this game back then but playing it now and comparing it to madden 18 and madden 19 I am blown away at how smooth and well it plays and I have a whole new appreciation for it. At the same time I am even more dissapointed in the lack of progress Madden has made on next gen consoles 4-5 years later.
My main complaint with NCAA 14 is that every deep ball is under-thrown, even within the range of the DB. The ball is just always short and is right in the DBs reach, instead of the ball maybe even being out of the WRs reach
This is the same point I made on your original DDA video. In Madden ratings, skill, scheme, nothing matters. I don’t play Madden at all just for that reason. I’m a football player as well as a fan, so when I see the player shifting, terrible animations, and complete lack of awareness of the caliber of certain players, I have zero tolerance for it.
I love your videos and I'm glad to know your a fellow colts fan. I think that you should do a comparison video like how would Jalen Ramsey fair one on one against someone like Robby Anderson or like Ryan Grant. Because honestly when I do rebuilds the last players I focus on are wide receivers because I know as long as they have speed and catching I will be successful against any DB.
I am a college football fan but I grew up watching the NFL with my dad so I always got Madden along with NCAA. I don't remember what year it was but at some point the NCAA series just seemed more mature and was just better than Madden. College football is more fun because of the wide variety of plays and so forth but the team that worked on NCAA seemed to have so much passion for the game and the results showed that in my opinion. Not knocking the guys who were toiling away on Madden but Madden always seemed to be a step behind in terms of graphics and gameplay and so forth which always puzzled me because the NCAA game was a bigger challenge with so many more teams and uniforms and stadiums and so forth. Good video showing how well the last NCAA implemented discrepancies in ratings. If I ever wanted to have fun I would pit a top 25 team against a team from a bottom dweller and just go to town. You can't do that in Madden even if you pick the best rated team versus the worst rated one. Sure, there is much more parity in the NFL but you just don't see it with the matchups - a supposedly great defensive line will perform as well as a mediocre one. It's a shame.
Well said and great video...ncaa football has always been my choice over madden, the gameplay just flows and they fully captured the essence of college football. Just a more exciting game. I got my ps3 back just for ncaa 13, been playing it heavy.
A question I’ve always had is, why is there a ratings system at the same time a level of difficulty is in place? Does it make it to where a player at 85 speed runs like 95 if I’m playing at All-Madden level? It’s really a conflict of interest when you think about it. There should only be a ratings system that determines how games outcomes happen, not a difficulty level.
This left Madden in the early 2000s and that's why i stopped buying it...in NCAA if your WR is bigger, stronger, faster he's gonna make plays, if your DB is as good as the WR its gonna be a damn battle!!! if the QB can't get it there the WR will try to help him its just an overall better game.
Robby Anderson is highly underrrated. He also has very good hands catching the deep pass. Generally I agree because as a Jets fan Josh McCown is pure buttocks, but Robby Anderson is indeed an underrated receiver.
Dude thank you for making this. Subscribed NCAA Football 14 is the best football game ever made. EA Hasn't come close since. I went out about a month ago and bought a new Xbox 360 just to start playing NCAAF because I'm so sick of Maddens BS. NCAAF 14 had superior attention to detail, insightful commentary and an exciting run game. Also, you could play on Heisman difficulty without just huge glitches for the CPU. It's extremely hard, but playable, and fair. Not like All Madden garbage. I honestly could go on and on, but i've been totally unimpressed by EAs work with football games since Madden 15/25.
Please do more comparisons between the two series NCAA vs Madden. I bought NCAA 2014 on ebay for PS3, still in it's shrink wrap for 59.99. not a bad deal.

Also, NCAA is a superior game in every way but graphics. MUCH more fun to ply that game. Coaches can choose to go to other schools when their contract is over (never could be done in coach franchise mode in Madden) and I love the recruitment aspect.
Late to the party on this. Question- you’re testing this with a streak route. I’ve played a ton of NCAA 14’ recently and noticed that streak routes have a very low probability of success across the board. I took a franchise (it was coincidentally UNM) from total crap to 6 star, and the one constant was that even when I had a highly favorable matchup for my wide receiver, that route just almost never results in a completion. My impression is that the mechanics of the game require cuts or separation for a high probability of completion, regardless of player stats. That’s kinda what you’re getting at, right? Or no?Regardless, this game is way better than recent Madden games.
In madden I often throw in a 67 overall rookie safety that a favor in replace of a 85 overall vet and see little difference in how they play coverage sometimes even forgetting that I made the switch🤷🏽♂️
Never caught over 1k yards. Barley over 50% catching. Prolly gonna get cut for his off season issues. Has a ton of talent, just doesn't do much with it.
RyanMoody21 Robby Anderson had a better catch % than Mike Evans and was only 60 total yards behind Evans. Is Mike Evans a "poor receiver" too? Robby was objectively better than Dez Bryant in every way this year. He had more yards than Stefon Diggs, Jermaine Kearse, Nelson Agholor, and Alshon Jeffrey. He had a better catch percentage than AJ Green, DeAndre Hopkins, TY Hilton, and Amari Cooper. I don't think Madden really takes legal troubles into account when evaluating players (except for maybe outright suspensions, which has not happened to Robby yet). By every on-field metric, Robby Anderson is a very good player in the NFL. If you're going to call Robby Anderson a "poor receiver", that means you can only maybe say there are 10-15 "good receivers" in the NFL.
I'm a little confused, with Maximum passing or whatever it's called, you can control placement. I haven't played NCAA 14 in while, but I could have sworn you can influence the ball placement while it's in the air. So I could consistently place the ball with a decent QB

this is so true , i still play ncaa 14 too i just cant take the MUT anymore haven't played in months and franchise mode is not as fun as an ncaa dynasty. i could go on and on about ncaa but the fact remains we still play ncaa 14 today.
The option play was so ridiculous on ncaa tho... If the end crashed u were guaranteed 15 yards. It is still my favorite football game and i hope they find a way to bring it back.
That's why Madden pushes MUT so hard, that way everyone's uses fantasy rosters and ratings don't really matter. I'm a franchise guy, and the best Madden Franchise is Madden 25 and NCAA 14 combined. You can play all thru college and export draft classes and follow them all the way thru the NFL... as long as I can do that I will never buy another madden
Do you notice that older madden give you more control over players. Now the movements are stiff and animated. They fucked up the mechanics. You can't cut freely are stop on a dime
I honestly would like to see the next Madden game to be like Madden 12 or 13. To me these games were made very well and players actually did make a difference. Like you said in this video, Madden 18 just is stuck on animations and is ruining sim football. In the older games though, lots of effort and thought was put into the mechanics. Which is why I am wishing EA could actually learn from what people are saying to them and can make Madden 19 be more like a true sim football game.
I just want to say, everything being too fast and quick to process without being slowed down is probably a better simulation of actual football. To add, College football is slower than NFL football. That being said, your point is still just as clear, and the animations are completely broken. Good video and keep it up.
Madden 12 with a custom difficulty slider set truly made the game ratings based. When I play Madden now, it doesn’t feel like I’m playing good teams, it just feels like the CPU cheats more or my team just becomes shit. The CPU doesn’t know how to make a feasible challenging team.
Thing is it’s fine if Average DB/WR wins every now & then cause that happens in real life. But there is a difficulty difference they try in All-Madden & you can tell. But i think just a few tweaks need to be made
You've also got to take into consideration, arcade, simulation, and competitive, all the modes in madden, how do we know you aren't on arcade? Because on arcade that's very possible to see a below average offense smoke an above average defense
Part of the fun in NCAA '14 is scouting an excellent player and watching him progress to be great or accidentally not drafting a replacement QB for your recently drafted stud and then having to adjust your playbook to a subpar QB. Madden has nothing like that. How many times do you see the CPU take a shitty quarterback and all of a sudden they are hitting every pass like they are Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers? Happens all of the time.
Ncaa 14 is a great game, and believe it or not the game ended with enough strategy within the playbooks... Pistol, zone slice, power counter from spread, air raid, no huddle tempos, great play action, pro style schemes, and of course all the different defensive schemes to match up with the various spread looks. The game is still relavent today!
Oh man looking at NCAA makes me wanna get my hands on it. Having a challenge is great because then I get to beat AI or Real Players because I know football.
Love the unpredictability in Ncaa my guy was running straight from left to right I threw the ball behind him he turned extended his right had while still going from left to right..bobbled the ball in his right hand then brought it in...I've had the game 4 years and never saw that lol
After 5 years of playing Ncaa 14, its still hard as fuck to make big plays, most my drives are 9-11 play drives of short chunk gains. I still love ncaa 14, it is by far the best football game ever. I do wish ea would start making college football games again though
The problem with Madden animations is they’re animations made to succeed; animations made to succeed in the catch and the run; animations made to succeed in situations where the player is made to feel better about how they play the game. Madden 18 isn’t a game made to be a simulation of a proper football experience; Madden 18 is a simulation made to be a simulation of a proper arcade experience. Where the animations succeed in making the player feel successful, they fail in making the player call the right plays. Where the animations succeed in making the player feel successful, the computer fails in making the right play calls; failing in such a way that becomes more lopsided in the other direction with their new definition of what exactly difficulty is. Take the Robbie Anderson catch; he’s a very skilled player, far more talented than any player on the New Mexico roster you played as. He can absolutely make those animations in a higher likelihood than the player on the NCAA roster you were throwing to. However, the problem is, all his animations are in an attempt to succeed. He’s only going to fail when the defender gets the better of him. The problem with that, is that the defender doesn’t have animations of failure. Robbie doesn’t have the animations of failure: of over-persuing the catch; he doesn’t misjudge and jump too far or too high. Same with the defender, who doesn’t jump almost at all; let alone too far, or too high, to where he might still succeed in his result, where he failed in his animation, by just being enough in the way. Ironically, all those things I just mentioned that should happen, DO happen in the older generation but not the new one. In Madden 18s attempt to succeed in making animations to “enhance” the players experience of “simulation”, they removed the actual animations that succeeded in that in the old generation. The animations weren’t removed; the animations just weren’t properly balanced back to compensate. This is something we wouldn’t have to worry about if the NFL allowed another company to make a football game to compete with it. Instead of a realistic football experience, we get what they deem, in their own minds, to be a realistic football experience. I couldn’t agree more; this is awful.
I agree on the mechanics being better in NCAA 14. I always felt as if all of the NCAA games they came out with were more realistic as far as gameplay mechanics, and realism. NCAA 14 hands down.
You're going back to the days when the profit model was based around making a good game that people wanted to buy and play, rather than on selling micro-transaction trading card packs to teenagers and frat boys. Notice how almost every single pass in NCAA 14 is under-thrown though. It drives me nuts to this day. No matter how good the QB is or the sliders I've found, the ball can never be placed in front of the back shoulder out of reach of the DB. The under-thrown passes are what lead to so many picks in NCAA 14. Don't get me wrong, I don't and wouldn't touch Madden with a 10 foot stick.I love NCAA 14.
Put it this way. Madden 18 makes your offense look like either John Elway with A.B and Julio Jones/Todd Gurley, or Jamarcus Russel with Cleveland Dwane bowe and Jordan Norwood/ Trent Richardson. And your defense can either look like the 85 bears or the 2010 Broncos.

I played NCAA 14 today and i always liked NCAA football better than Madden. From the stadium tremors to not being able to throw to your receiver because their confidence is shook because of the crowd. Nothing like playing in the Rose Bowl, Death Valley, and other famed stadiums when you are the visiting team. NCAA IS JUST BETTER!

This is how real football works. My guess is that Madden is catering more to the type of player who throws his controller whenever their 65 rated QB throws balls out of bounds, underthrows, and is just erratic. They prefer to see every pass be perfect when that’s never the case in real football. I am going to buy and start playing NCAA 14. Screw Madden
NCAA was always the better football sim for some reason.....best versions were 03,07,12,14...... The fact that in 14 you can set it up for a realistic simulation is unmatched.

When running this play, it's damn near suicidal to try for the streak. It's almost never a completion. I always hit the corner cause it usually is either open or gets free. This honestly, is a bad example cause the gameplay for NCAA has always been more true to life than Madden. Even going back to the days when Madden was King as it were, NCAA was the Underground King. NCAA put out a superior on field product time and time again. I honestly didn't like 14, rather I think it benefits from being the last of its kind so folks oversell it. Gameplay in 12 in particular were better than 14. Still, 18 was essentially the beginning of the end for Madden before it completely went off the cliff as it were. NCAA was steadfastly committed to its gameplay while Madden sorta kinda was.
Idk... I agree with most your vids but I’d say in Madden the receivers that are lower rated than DBs generally always lose and so you lose a deep threat. Drops, slowing down, all madden mechanics that need work

I know growing up I would play my dad in both. My dad isn't and never was a big video game guy. So it should've been easier for me to win on both. Yet I would lose a lot on madden and win most of the time on NCAA. I know I was more skilled even at that time compared to hm. This was when I first started playing video games. So I think that proves the point of which game is a better simulation football game.

True and at the same time (rarely) when I chuck a deep ball to my receiver who is playing against a superior corner and my receiver wins the jump ball battle it gets me so hyped up and it feels way more rewarding because I know I got lucky and that 9/10 times the corner wins that battle.

K J Try playing with Barry Sanders in Madden 19. The horrible running mechanics make all running backs suck equally. The only thing that truly separates them is speed and that only helps when you’re able to break past the secondary.

80% of the physics issues madden suffers from are simply because the ball is not truly free. If the ball wasn't controlled by the A.I. in unbiased ways we would be in a much better place.

Agreed. The game manipulates everything to fit what they deem the difference of difficult and rewarding. Quarterback accuracy isn’t something we’ve truly had as an actual meaningful thing since at least Madden 2006 with the QB vision.
Now, if the game wants to change the accuracy variable based on the accuracy “skill”, it just rewards itself to impose on the player as “difficulty” by just making ridiculous decisions (IE - throw where the receiver was, at the exact spot he was, not where he will be - but exactly where the CPU controlled linebacker currently is-whom turns full 180 to make an OBJ catch).
I hate this so much. Nothing in Madden 18 is free. You win when the game wants you to, and the game will not let you win when it decides it wants you to lose. The only way to free yourself from that is to drop the difficulty (absolutely absurd) and power through.

Spot on brother. If I have Gronk in 1v1 coverage, against an average skilled DB, or undersized DB, I should be rewarded for making and finding that mismatch. But you'll never find that in this Madden because it's animation driven and it's too concerned with letting below average players find success

My problem 2 biggest problem with madden is everyone on my team tears there shoulder. I use the Browns and Jamie Collins Joe Thomas Joel Bitinio Keven Zietler Christian Kirskey every year always get injured for 5 to six weeks thats not to unrealistic but i can take the Qb i drafted who is a mobile qb not slide or dive when i run or get hit sticked from hell when i run out side of the pocket and the guy gets up perfectly time i don't want my Qb to get hurt but damn that is so unrealistic its not even funny. Also scouting continues to suck and not fun compared to recruiting you could be 1-3 star program and only draw the interest of 1-3 star recruits but you can always find that gem in the class that will turn your program around but in Madden 18 when i scout guys in the 4th-7th round and they always come up worse than they are projected so the game does not allow you to find the those late round gems. I played a UAB dynasty and found a mobile Qb who was 65 overall but went he up by 10 or 15 points after i fully scouted.

Its not just in in the sports games look at Mass effect 1-3 minus minus the ending of 3 which EA rushed i don't blame the programmers and developers for that and then loot at Amdromeda and you will see how lazy EA has gotten with their development of games. but then you look at a company like Bandai who especially as far sales go in America they continue to make quality games. You look at the Tales of series the games are not ground breaking but i have never bought a game for the Tales of games and thought i wasted my money and hell i didn't buy Madden 18 my sister goit it for my Brother in law and only paid 20 bucks for it i think its a total waste of money. Also don't buy any ofthe Tales of games if you don't like JRPG's because thats what it is.

Wow, NCAA 14 makes Madden 18 look horrible in comparison to defense. NCAA 14 has its flaws, cheating AI, Momentum issues, glitches, but it appears way better gameplay wise than Madden.
Patrick I. Yup one of my favorite glitches is when u take a defensive end and play him much wider than u would ever see in real life. U can sack the qb or at least get a hit on him every play when u do this and it eliminates guys trying to roll with there qb to the outside. The offensive lineman will either slide out to far and u can beat him to the inside or not slide out far enough and u win to the outside. And it really does not effect run defense if u have ur defense in a really aggressive style. Lining them up to the outside destroys the outside run and blitzing safeties and lbs shuts down the inside run.
Honestly the A.I. is just smart imo there is almost no exploits.

The NCAA mechanics are clearly better. As a player, you had to use strategy on multiple levels. Id hate to play a newer game that had poorly implemented player inputs overpowered by canned RnG based animations.
Next Gen ruined this. I still play Madden 25 heavily. Custom draft class, bad teams play like bad teams and you control of the outcome in user vs user situations

Ryan, I would argue that NCAA Football was the stepping stone for what we see in Madden games with the animations. If you notice and look closely enough, there are a few weird type of animations that occur in NCAA Football with tackles and players falling over each other, players getting up and running into each other and then diving on the ground as if they got hit like a wrecking ball, etc. NCAA Football is still great and by far my favorite "recent" football game to play, but it by no means is in the clear from having coding issues. The last Madden that I felt was any good was Madden 2004....and that's saying something. Thanks for the commentary and opinions! Love the stuff.

To be completely honest. I just don’t think you can compare these two games. There are so many factors that make these games play differently. I’m in college for psychology and one thing I can use that major for in this situation is the 3rd variable problem. There’s simply just too man other factors. I feel your single clip breakdown videos were more better than these NCAA comparison videos of recent because you truly were showing the problem with the game other than comparing. Especially with a game from 4-5 years ago that played on a last gen console. Unexpected bias kicks in and people start believing NCAA was a better game than it actually was. Don’t get me wrong it was a fun game but it too had so many problems. We just tend to look past it because Madden 18 is the current issue. Just love giving my opinion man. Speaking of third variable problems, EA's refusal to state the game rules (what the player attributes do) and then proceeding to lie about how some stats work when they do give info (dev claimed strength did X, controlled trials showed no influence on X between 0 and 99 str over hundreds of plays). In Madden, counter-playcalls don't work, its rules are hidden, and it's dominated by animations.
We do not have enough evidence to conclude that this wasn't the case in earlier games, but we have enough to conclude that it has consistently been hot garbage for a decade. Forget this "good player should win most times" message in this video, the game's rules are so hidden that I can't reliably identify a "good player" at something or what to do to develop one. It's an environment where Gutt Fox is a more reliable source on how the game works than the development team's official statements. I spit on that reality. It's why I don't have the game, despite that I'd love to play a football game that works well.

Madden 08 and 09 had best my players, you would do the combine, hire agents, get drafted, and do freaking math tests. Like whered all that fun go. Now you just pick a team and custom stats. I miss when the 40 yd dash and how many bench presses you could do would determine your strength and speed

When my friend and I were playing Madden franchises he would just pick the fastest players and regardless of how high of a rating my DB's were his WR's would ALWAYS be open, especially if he ran that stupid crossing pattern where my linebackers and corners would all collide and he would then have 2 WR's wide open and a TE streaking down the middle, wide open.
If you put madden 18 graphics into madden 25 you will have the best madden ever. Madden 25 graphics weren’t the greatest but the gameplay was so good. Madden 18 graphics are good but the gameplay and how the game cheeses you sometimes. When I play on rookie I cream the other team. When I play on pro it’s just a bunch of cheese. On Ncaa it’s just best all around it’s better than any madden. I love Ncaa more than madden. Sure ncaa has some glitches but madden is worse

I play Madden religiously like most football fans. Bad QBs in Madden 18 may throw that I formation, PA streak for completions but there are lots of times that a wide open Medium range pass is missed by a ridiculous amount, ah-la Neil O'Donnell vs. Cowboys. Right at a defender, his own receiver at least 10 yards overthrown. I have also missed several times on the PA play by overthrowing the WR. What I don't like about bad QB play in Madden is the inconsistency. A bad QB should miss guys but not THAT badly.
It’s animations.
The only animations NCAA really included were in tackling.
The pass engagements are always psychics and ratings.
From Madden 16 to 18, it was almost purely animations in pass engagement.
Now in 19, there’s a really balanced mix of both that I’m really enjoying. When my TE is 2 steps in front of the LB covering him, I can get it to him without an animation triggering that would have the LB latch onto him and drop the ball like in 18.
It feels more fluent in Madden 19 compared to 18. Though hit sticks ruin the fluidity.
NCAA was much harder of a game. Madden lets you make fantastic catches every play. When I did a Road to Glory mode a few months back, I threw so many interceptions. And it's because Madden has been so simplified and become so forgiving that you can make stupid decisions when throwing and come away with a huge play. NCAA 14 makes you really work to get a good result and doesn't reward mediocrity
I recently bought an xbox 360 to play all the old games I loved from back in the day and NCAA 14 is one of them. Now I played the hell out of this game back then but playing it now and comparing it to madden 18 and madden 19 I am blown away at how smooth and well it plays and I have a whole new appreciation for it.
At the same time I am even more dissapointed in the lack of progress Madden has made on next gen consoles 4-5 years later.
My main complaint with NCAA 14 is that every deep ball is under-thrown, even within the range of the DB. The ball is just always short and is right in the DBs reach, instead of the ball maybe even being out of the WRs reach
This is the same point I made on your original DDA video. In Madden ratings, skill, scheme, nothing matters. I don’t play Madden at all just for that reason. I’m a football player as well as a fan, so when I see the player shifting, terrible animations, and complete lack of awareness of the caliber of certain players, I have zero tolerance for it.
I love your videos and I'm glad to know your a fellow colts fan. I think that you should do a comparison video like how would Jalen Ramsey fair one on one against someone like Robby Anderson or like Ryan Grant. Because honestly when I do rebuilds the last players I focus on are wide receivers because I know as long as they have speed and catching I will be successful against any DB.
I am a college football fan but I grew up watching the NFL with my dad so I always got Madden along with NCAA. I don't remember what year it was but at some point the NCAA series just seemed more mature and was just better than Madden. College football is more fun because of the wide variety of plays and so forth but the team that worked on NCAA seemed to have so much passion for the game and the results showed that in my opinion. Not knocking the guys who were toiling away on Madden but Madden always seemed to be a step behind in terms of graphics and gameplay and so forth which always puzzled me because the NCAA game was a bigger challenge with so many more teams and uniforms and stadiums and so forth.
Good video showing how well the last NCAA implemented discrepancies in ratings. If I ever wanted to have fun I would pit a top 25 team against a team from a bottom dweller and just go to town. You can't do that in Madden even if you pick the best rated team versus the worst rated one. Sure, there is much more parity in the NFL but you just don't see it with the matchups - a supposedly great defensive line will perform as well as a mediocre one. It's a shame.
Well said and great video...ncaa football has always been my choice over madden, the gameplay just flows and they fully captured the essence of college football. Just a more exciting game. I got my ps3 back just for ncaa 13, been playing it heavy.
A question I’ve always had is, why is there a ratings system at the same time a level of difficulty is in place? Does it make it to where a player at 85 speed runs like 95 if I’m playing at All-Madden level? It’s really a conflict of interest when you think about it. There should only be a ratings system that determines how games outcomes happen, not a difficulty level.

I went out about a month ago and bought a new Xbox 360 just to start playing NCAAF because I'm so sick of Maddens BS.
NCAAF 14 had superior attention to detail, insightful commentary and an exciting run game. Also, you could play on Heisman difficulty without just huge glitches for the CPU. It's extremely hard, but playable, and fair. Not like All Madden garbage.
I honestly could go on and on, but i've been totally unimpressed by EAs work with football games since Madden 15/25.
Please do more comparisons between the two series NCAA vs Madden. I bought NCAA 2014 on ebay for PS3, still in it's shrink wrap for 59.99. not a bad deal.

Also, NCAA is a superior game in every way but graphics. MUCH more fun to ply that game. Coaches can choose to go to other schools when their contract is over (never could be done in coach franchise mode in Madden) and I love the recruitment aspect.
Late to the party on this. Question- you’re testing this with a streak route. I’ve played a ton of NCAA 14’ recently and noticed that streak routes have a very low probability of success across the board. I took a franchise (it was coincidentally UNM) from total crap to 6 star, and the one constant was that even when I had a highly favorable matchup for my wide receiver, that route just almost never results in a completion. My impression is that the mechanics of the game require cuts or separation for a high probability of completion, regardless of player stats. That’s kinda what you’re getting at, right? Or no?Regardless, this game is way better than recent Madden games.

In madden I often throw in a 67 overall rookie safety that a favor in replace of a 85 overall vet and see little difference in how they play coverage sometimes even forgetting that I made the switch🤷🏽♂️

Robby was objectively better than Dez Bryant in every way this year. He had more yards than Stefon Diggs, Jermaine Kearse, Nelson Agholor, and Alshon Jeffrey. He had a better catch percentage than AJ Green, DeAndre Hopkins, TY Hilton, and Amari Cooper.
I don't think Madden really takes legal troubles into account when evaluating players (except for maybe outright suspensions, which has not happened to Robby yet). By every on-field metric, Robby Anderson is a very good player in the NFL. If you're going to call Robby Anderson a "poor receiver", that means you can only maybe say there are 10-15 "good receivers" in the NFL.

I'm a little confused, with Maximum passing or whatever it's called, you can control placement. I haven't played NCAA 14 in while, but I could have sworn you can influence the ball placement while it's in the air. So I could consistently place the ball with a decent QB

I honestly would like to see the next Madden game to be like Madden 12 or 13. To me these games were made very well and players actually did make a difference. Like you said in this video, Madden 18 just is stuck on animations and is ruining sim football. In the older games though, lots of effort and thought was put into the mechanics. Which is why I am wishing EA could actually learn from what people are saying to them and can make Madden 19 be more like a true sim football game.
I just want to say, everything being too fast and quick to process without being slowed down is probably a better simulation of actual football. To add, College football is slower than NFL football. That being said, your point is still just as clear, and the animations are completely broken. Good video and keep it up.
Madden 12 with a custom difficulty slider set truly made the game ratings based. When I play Madden now, it doesn’t feel like I’m playing good teams, it just feels like the CPU cheats more or my team just becomes shit. The CPU doesn’t know how to make a feasible challenging team.

Thing is it’s fine if Average DB/WR wins every now & then cause that happens in real life. But there is a difficulty difference they try in All-Madden & you can tell. But i think just a few tweaks need to be made
You've also got to take into consideration, arcade, simulation, and competitive, all the modes in madden, how do we know you aren't on arcade? Because on arcade that's very possible to see a below average offense smoke an above average defense
Part of the fun in NCAA '14 is scouting an excellent player and watching him progress to be great or accidentally not drafting a replacement QB for your recently drafted stud and then having to adjust your playbook to a subpar QB. Madden has nothing like that. How many times do you see the CPU take a shitty quarterback and all of a sudden they are hitting every pass like they are Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers? Happens all of the time.
Ncaa 14 is a great game, and believe it or not the game ended with enough strategy within the playbooks... Pistol, zone slice, power counter from spread, air raid, no huddle tempos, great play action, pro style schemes, and of course all the different defensive schemes to match up with the various spread looks. The game is still relavent today!
Oh man looking at NCAA makes me wanna get my hands on it. Having a challenge is great because then I get to beat AI or Real Players because I know football.
Love the unpredictability in Ncaa my guy was running straight from left to right I threw the ball behind him he turned extended his right had while still going from left to right..bobbled the ball in his right hand then brought it in...I've had the game 4 years and never saw that lol

After 5 years of playing Ncaa 14, its still hard as fuck to make big plays, most my drives are 9-11 play drives of short chunk gains. I still love ncaa 14, it is by far the best football game ever. I do wish ea would start making college football games again though
The problem with Madden animations is they’re animations made to succeed; animations made to succeed in the catch and the run; animations made to succeed in situations where the player is made to feel better about how they play the game.
Madden 18 isn’t a game made to be a simulation of a proper football experience; Madden 18 is a simulation made to be a simulation of a proper arcade experience.
Where the animations succeed in making the player feel successful, they fail in making the player call the right plays. Where the animations succeed in making the player feel successful, the computer fails in making the right play calls; failing in such a way that becomes more lopsided in the other direction with their new definition of what exactly difficulty is.
Take the Robbie Anderson catch; he’s a very skilled player, far more talented than any player on the New Mexico roster you played as. He can absolutely make those animations in a higher likelihood than the player on the NCAA roster you were throwing to. However, the problem is, all his animations are in an attempt to succeed. He’s only going to fail when the defender gets the better of him. The problem with that, is that the defender doesn’t have animations of failure. Robbie doesn’t have the animations of failure: of over-persuing the catch; he doesn’t misjudge and jump too far or too high. Same with the defender, who doesn’t jump almost at all; let alone too far, or too high, to where he might still succeed in his result, where he failed in his animation, by just being enough in the way.
Ironically, all those things I just mentioned that should happen, DO happen in the older generation but not the new one. In Madden 18s attempt to succeed in making animations to “enhance” the players experience of “simulation”, they removed the actual animations that succeeded in that in the old generation. The animations weren’t removed; the animations just weren’t properly balanced back to compensate.
This is something we wouldn’t have to worry about if the NFL allowed another company to make a football game to compete with it. Instead of a realistic football experience, we get what they deem, in their own minds, to be a realistic football experience.

Usually plays like that happen in madden because of the play styles, and practice usually uses Arcade mode
I agree on the mechanics being better in NCAA 14. I always felt as if all of the NCAA games they came out with were more realistic as far as gameplay mechanics, and realism. NCAA 14 hands down.
You're going back to the days when the profit model was based around making a good game that people wanted to buy and play, rather than on selling micro-transaction trading card packs to teenagers and frat boys. I hope hope hope that if NCAA Football ever comes back to video gaming, that the developers/publishers (whether it's EA or not) don't find a way to sneak in some crappy Ultimate Team micro-transaction feature.

Defenders had a MASSIVE drop problem in NCAA games. It was so unrealistic
Notice how almost every single pass in NCAA 14 is under-thrown though. It drives me nuts to this day. No matter how good the QB is or the sliders I've found, the ball can never be placed in front of the back shoulder out of reach of the DB. The under-thrown passes are what lead to so many picks in NCAA 14. Don't get me wrong, I don't and wouldn't touch Madden with a 10 foot stick.I love NCAA 14.

Put it this way. Madden 18 makes your offense look like either John Elway with A.B and Julio Jones/Todd Gurley, or Jamarcus Russel with Cleveland Dwane bowe and Jordan Norwood/ Trent Richardson. And your defense can either look like the 85 bears or the 2010 Broncos.
The only part that made sense is him running faster than Seattle’s defense because Anderson is pretty fast
I mostly agree. But one QB is a righty one a lefty, one defense was pressing one wasn't. Different catch styles pass angles. Many things affect this play. I usually agree with you tho
I played NCAA 14 today and i always liked NCAA football better than Madden. From the stadium tremors to not being able to throw to your receiver because their confidence is shook because of the crowd. Nothing like playing in the Rose Bowl, Death Valley, and other famed stadiums when you are the visiting team. NCAA IS JUST BETTER!

This is how real football works. My guess is that Madden is catering more to the type of player who throws his controller whenever their 65 rated QB throws balls out of bounds, underthrows, and is just erratic. They prefer to see every pass be perfect when that’s never the case in real football. I am going to buy and start playing NCAA 14. Screw Madden

NCAA was always the better football sim for some reason.....best versions were 03,07,12,14...... The fact that in 14 you can set it up for a realistic simulation is unmatched.
This is why NCAA was the best 14 especially because the pass, run, and defense was a challenge for you and it wasn’t one click and boom touchdown like madden bs
I give up man...i play mut...tried competitive but nms so they manipulating my games too much...they just give you the worst animations and ur opponent is a god in animations...but he throws into triple coverage every pass...

Update the graphics for ncaa 14 for ps5 and i’ll play it 24/7 i been saying for the longest madden sucks and isn’t realistic and is just animation based which is why its so easy to catch interceptions 🤦🏽♂️
When running this play, it's damn near suicidal to try for the streak. It's almost never a completion. I always hit the corner cause it usually is either open or gets free.
This honestly, is a bad example cause the gameplay for NCAA has always been more true to life than Madden. Even going back to the days when Madden was King as it were, NCAA was the Underground King. NCAA put out a superior on field product time and time again. I honestly didn't like 14, rather I think it benefits from being the last of its kind so folks oversell it. Gameplay in 12 in particular were better than 14.
Still, 18 was essentially the beginning of the end for Madden before it completely went off the cliff as it were. NCAA was steadfastly committed to its gameplay while Madden sorta kinda was.
Idk... I agree with most your vids but I’d say in Madden the receivers that are lower rated than DBs generally always lose and so you lose a deep threat. Drops, slowing down, all madden mechanics that need work
I actually liked the direction Madden 25/Ncaa 14 was headed gameplay wise. It's gotten progressively worse imo since.
UGH i love the NCAA games. they did such a better job. Last one I own was the one that had home field advantage and players got shook up and lost composure. That shit was amazing
