- Is NBA Star Clyde Drexler most slept on shooting guard ever?
From SOARING through the air and throwing down MONSTER JAMS, to being compared to the best player of ALL TIME…
We are gonna go over everything about Clyde “ The Glide” Drexler, who just might be the most UNDERRATED Shooting Guard in HISTORY!
Clyde is probably one of the unluckiest superstars that have ever played in the league…
And there are more than a few reasons why.
He had to play in the same era as Michael Jordan, playing the same position…
Drastically reducing his chances at winning the NBA title.
If that wasn’t bad enough, there was a very real possibility Drexler could have played WITH Mike instead of against him.
Despite all this, The Glide was a dominant force on the floor in his own right…
Easily getting to the basket and making monster dunks every game
So pop off your socks and get ready to watch through to the end with us…
Because we are gonna go over the slow start to his career…
His iconic gliding form while dunking…
How Clyde and Michael have been compared…
And how Drexler is massively underrated as a superstar.
Even at 6 foot 7 Clyde could easily be mistaken for a forward with how high he could get while putting NBA’s best on posters.
His agility and freakish dunking style is something we rarely see even in today's score first league.
This is even more amazing when you consider the NBA was full to the gill’s with big men and centers packing the paint in his era.
So why hasn’t The Glide gotten more attention when we talk about legends like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson or even other shooting guards like Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant?
The biggest reason for this isn’t because he wasn’t flashy, or didn’t score a lot.
It was because he was being compared to the GOAT, and even Jordan himself came out and downplayed his comparison to Drexler completely in “The Last Dance”.
Even though Mike’s words have a lot of weight, old timers and historians of the game are convinced The Glide was a much better player than history gives him credit for.

Where does Clyde rank in your all time shooting guard list?
He ranks 3rd all-time behind MJ and Kobe. Wade is behind Drexler.
Drexler has better stats and was overall a better player than Wade.
Wade beat drex in rings and slightly in scoring that's it.
Did you really have to show the injury of Sam Bowie? Yuck..I remember that.
The Glide and Air in 1984 onward would of have been a cheatmodeville.
@@hainavidotcom you must be from Portland, Drexler not better than Wade. he is a top 10 all time shooting guard
@@larryburks-m2m Yes, he is, No I'm a former professional basketball player not from Portland. Go look at the total body of stats. Wade is sure not more athletic than Drexler. That's a fact. They called him the Glide for a reason Phi Slamma Jamma.
Why is it when someone disagrees? Do you have to assume propaganda? If someone disagrees people start name-calling. Whatever happened to public discourse without negativity?
For me, Drexler is better than Wade. All you have to do is look at the AVG'S!!
1. MJ 2. Kobe 3. Wade 4. Jerry West 5. James Harden 6. Allen Iverson 7. CLYDE

Clyde actually averaged more rpg, apg, spg, bpg and had a higher fg% than Kobe.
AND HE WAS MAN TILL 1995. UNLIKE KOBE WHO RIDE SHAQ 8 YEARS.
I’ve never heard that. As a huge fan of that era of the NBA I have always thought Drexler is so ridiculously underrated.
Facts
But he wasn't better...😂
@@brennenconwell6201 I didn't say he was.
Top5 shooting guard of all-time!
Oh yes
Agreed
I went to his basketball camp two years in a row in the late 80's. He's one of the nicest person ive ever met. He would talk to the kids and parents afterwards for about an hour. A few years later my mom and I went to the rockets vs trailblazers game. We knew where the players would come out after the game. So I was getting some autographs when I hear someone call my name. It was clyde, he remembered me and my mom by name. My two friends with me were blown away that clyde drexler was talking to us.
Awesome 😎
This was my dude back in the day. I was Portland and Houston fan because of clyde
@@user-ur6er1qo5j I hated Chicago back in the day😳 I was never a Micheal jordan fan at all. When we lost in the finals to Chicago I was sick🤮 😂. My top 3 players growing up was Dr.J, Clyde, and Akeem the dream.
@@J68browneyez I TAKE DR J AND CLYDE OVER MJ ANYDAY.
@@J68browneyezClyde & Dream were my 2 faves as well.
@benyah3390 don't get me wrong, tho, but I will say I was never a Chicogo bull fan, but I did like Scotty. I liked him more than anything, especially when he came to Portland. I can't forget pippin, I definitely got to add him to my list. That's my dude. He just didn't get the just do he should have gotten. Scotty was nice.
@@J68browneyez true
He started slow in his first year because every time he went flying into the lane doing some crazy dunk, Ramsey called a time out and pulled him out and would rip him a new one for not running the offense. Drexler figured it out the following year on how to do his Clyde the Glyde act while playing within Ramsay’s old school offense.
Prime example of a coach who doesn't know what he's doing.
Prime example of somebody not knowing what they are talking about. Jack ramsey is championship hall of fame coach who is ranked in the top ten coaches of all time.@@benyah3390
@@benyah3390 Ramsey still the only coach that led Portland to a title.
Not to mention he's a beast on 2K.
I be killing with him with The All Time Houston Rockets LOL
Clyde was an exceptional athlete. I’ve been watching him with admiration since the early 90’s. An original dream team member, an original hall of famer. He is one of my childhood heroes.
that boy glides across the freethrow line 😳😳🤘🤘🤘🤘
He did it in game
Very underrated and underappreciated
My second favorite baller of all time. IMO, vastly underrated talent. My favorite baller was Connie " The Hawk " Hawkins
Sky Hawk
During his era. Of the all time greats the only players he didn`t beat in a playoff series . Magic Johnson / Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan
WRONG HE LOST TO PIPPEN AND JORDAN. SHALL I CALL BIRD TO SWEEP MJ ?
@PIP...33 Bird would need McHale, Parish, DJ, and Ainge to sweep a young Jordan on a provety franchise. Pippen isn't at the level of Magic, Zeke and Jordan. That's why he didn't mention Worthy or Dumars.
"The Glyde" is Hall of Fame, Champion, All Star. Legacy is solid.
Drexler is my top sg on NBA 2K Jordan and Kobe for 2nd lol
In the 90’s we were always looking for someone who could challenge MJ: Barkley, Drexler, Ewing, Stockton & Malone. They were all wonderful players. And MJ always won. Man was MJ a show. Glad to hear he’s on good terms with Clyde.
MJ in the second run had Kukoc and Rodman on top of the other bulls and another superstar in Pippen..plus Phil..no one wins rings solo..its the dumbest argument of all times..KAJ 8 years drought before Magic, CB and KD are the prime examples that individual value has nothing to do with rings..EVEN Dr J 4 finals and 7 eastern finals in 9 years was short of rings because the team was not enough particularly in the paint with Dawkins and Caldwell Jones!
If we can be biased then I got him number 1. Otherwise I got him 4th
I thought this was a video about CLYDE DREXLER. WHY is HALF the video about Michael Jordan?
Top 5 I'd say which is still rather flattering considering you're talking about a group of players which consists of Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Jerry West, John Havlicek, Allen Iverson etc. He's very underrated in my opinion.
Yes he is!! ….dude was the most vicious dunker of his time!!
North Carolina State he lost to his final year, I've found this narrator to be very loose with facts in other videos as well.
0:55 Clyde actually WAS a small forward in college & his early NBA years.
I feel like Clyde was small forward, and Kersey was shooting guard. But now that I think about it, I think I have that reversed. But Clyde looked like a 55-year-old man his entire career.
Nah he looked young but just had a receding hairline
Unfortunately for Clyde he had to play when MJ was playing. Clyde is a top 5 SG all time.
Buddy get your facts straight Michael Jordan was there in 1995 he got beat by the Orlando Magic, you didn't even spell Clyde's name right at the beginning of the video🙄
Yes.
Top 3 in all SG stats other than points (5th)
I knew he was good back in 95 as an 11 year old.
How you spell Drexler wrong?
Hakeem, drexler and jordan in same team and bostons dynasty would have been surpassed.
Mike is the greatest beneficiary of time and place in the history of the NBA
And Kobe wasn't 🤔
Jackson Laura Davis Michelle Perez Barbara
Great player. But not even in the same universe as Michael Jordan.
He was in the same arena as Jordan, get lost, man
I think clyde is the closest thing to mj, not kobe.
Clyde was cold, I watched this dude.
Clyde was really good. Kind of a mix between Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan. He got two Portland teams to the finals and just didn't really have that secondary go-to scorer. Terry Porter was a good not great scorer. Clyde himself was probably more of a secondary scorer, all-around type player. If he had gotten to Houston sooner with Hakeem, he'd probably have had like 2-3 chips and might have grabbed a Finals MVP.
He's a champ and he was still good AF when they won but I think the 0-2 finals record as "the man" and the 1-0 finals record as the second option kind of hurt his credibility a little.
Michael is obviously the best. Before Kobe and Wade, a lot of people probably had Drexler as a top 2-3 shooting guard with Jordan and maybe like a Jerry West (who had similar struggles winning chips against more talented opponents).
Great comparison. But Clyde was definitely a #1 player. He could definitely carry a team. There was a 5 year span when he was top 5 in the league along with Jordan, Olajuwon, Barkley, and (D-Rob, Isaiah, Ewing, K-Malone, Magic, 'Nique, ect. any given year). Drexler and Wilkins or Olajuwon would've been sick. I have Clyde above Wade for sure, and personally *for me* above Kobe too.
You can't label a player a bust when they continuously keep getting iniured, to me Bowie & Oden were not bust. Lastly, Clyde was a great player and he was so much fun to watch.
I agree. If you ask me, LaRue Martin is the biggest bust ever. (“Is Portland always in these bad draft situations?” asked Magic Johnson once.) Martin was picked #1 overall in the 1972 draft over Bob McAdoo, Julius Erving, and Paul Westphal. Martin scored just over 1,400 points over a 4-year stint; McAdoo scored over 1,400 points in his rookie year alone.
@@creoleDJ ...Dr J was '70 class I beleive
@@marktrail8624 it was the 1972 draft.
Drexler never missed the playoffs his entire career. Kobe missed the playoffs four times.
Jordan was in the league the year the Rockets won with Drexler(1995).
Most underrated player ever !! John Stockton doesn't get enough credit either !!
Prime Chris Mullin was no joke either ☺
Stop. Stockton is constantly in the “best point guards ever” conversation. Kevin Johnson, Tim Hardaway, Mark Price, and Terry Porter are vastly underrated as point guards.
Stockton was not an offensive threat and overrated in D.
Facts! Especially now that we've been in the era of the shoot-first scoring PG, where as through to the mid to late 2000's, in general PG's were pass-first distributors and floor generals, who would/could step up and hit big shots - but weren't looking for their own. Perfect example of this was the Sixers and AI, Iverson was a short PG, (barely over six feet tall), and was a scoring focused guard, so they placed Eric Snow in the starting line-up to take on the role that a PG should fill, allowing AI to basically play as a super-short 2-guard. Now if your a team lacking in scoring, obviously i'd want my PG to be more scoring focused, but in general I've always hated shoot-first pgs. Especially hen they re on a team loaded with good ti great scorers. Stockton was the ultimate pass-first floor-general PG, however he and a number of other élite pass-first PG's from those years in 80's and 90's certainly had the skills and talent to have put up way better scoring numbers than they did, other than John - there's guys like Terry Porter, Rod Strickland, Terrell Brandon, BJ Armstrong, and Kenny Anderson - just to name a few. All woulda put up 25 points a game if they were playing in this era.
I’d say more so under-appreciated as opposed to underrated.
Plus he was on 92 dream team. Bird magic M. J. 😊
They all got gold.
Drexler won his championship in ‘95, when Jordan actually was in the league. They swept Orlando with Shaq, who eliminated Jordan’s Bulls 4-2
But There were special circumstances for MJ this year, in 95
@@Nicolas-RoRo911Yes, that’s true. But still…MJ was in the league😊
@@Nicolas-RoRo911 What special circumstances? Jordan’s stats against Orlando in the 95 playoff were far better than his 96 finals MVP stats. People just like to say he wasn’t conditioned that year. Not true.
Born in 1962 he was 21 when he entered the league in 83
It’s DREXLER. Please correct your title
Yea, not Dexter
whos better Clyde or Kobe is a legit debate, not gonna say he was better than Kobe, but im not gonna say Kobe was clear cut better than Clyde either, think about it
I'm taking Clyde
My vote for most underrated SG would go to Mitch Richmond. With pre injury Ron Harper getting an honorable mention.
Drexler was better than those guys.
I don't see Sam Bowie as "one of the worst draft choices of all time." It made perfect sense for the Blazers at that time. These days, a team usually drafts on talent prowess regardless of position needed. But back then, you draft primarily on position needed. Sam Bowie was talented and had a great college career. For that draft night, the Blazers chose correct with Sam. It's a weak argument knowing how everything played out. Hindsight is 20/20.
Blazers had SG Jim Paxson coming off his career best season and drafted Clyde the year before. Why pick Jordan? Blazers didn't need another SG. They drastically needed a center.
Fun vid. Love me some Drexler!
3rd best 2 guard ever ❤
Most underrated ever yes
Para mi CLYDE, era mejor que Kobe, era espectacular, se movía como una pantera, Jordan tuvo suerte de tener a Pippen y Rodman con el.
Insanely under rated. He's an undisputed top 5 SG in NBA history. You can argue him over kobe and definitely over wade. Yet some people don't even have him top 5. Ridiculous.
Wase isnt!!!! IN the conversation
Jordan era = everyone underated.
Thank you. Finally someone sees it 👀
Clyde was the truth.
I wished that Clyde could have faced MJ in the 1995 finals.
Another alternate timeline is Portland acquire Jordan instead of Bowie and they get Sabonis in 1986 (assuming no Cold War). Imagine that.
Jordan Clyde and Hakeem in the middle would have been nasty.
Great video!
Drexler was a freak ! His highlight reel is up there with the best of them !
Also, he was on the original Dream Team !
Obviously u don't know the round ball. Charles Barkley, maybe u have heard of him. Saying Sam Bowie was far from a bust, he just wasn't healthy. Of course if we all had a crystal ball,of course u take Jordan, however they needed a center, and didn't have that crystal ball. Now Greg Odom was a bust, Bowie played with terrible injuries for 10,11 years, with a double digit scoring ave
Oden. You're mixing up with lamar Odom.
2nd best - better than Kobe.
mj was in the nba the year drexler won buddy
While we’re on the subject of “slept on” and “overlooked” shooting guards, can we give David “Skywalker” Thompson some shine???
Jordan's whole offensive game is David Thompson. The biggest difference was Jordan's size.
@@Milt-g4f exactly! While everyone else patterned their skills like Dr. J, MJ look at Thompson as his role model!
Most underrated SG of all time to me is Hal Greer.
Yep and a lot more who don't get the noteriaty
@@curtisthomas3598 NOPE GREER HAD WILT AND SHOULD PLAY BETTER NEAR SUCH AN ATHLETE. DREXLER RICHMOND PLAYED ALONE MOST OF THEIR PRIME.
@@PIP...33 responding to the wrong guy. I agree
In the 1992 NBA All-Star game, the opening play, Jordan drives to the basket for an easy slam dunk, but his shot is rejected as Clyde comes from out of nowhere to block it, for the game Clyde outscores Jordan by 4 points and the win.
He was so good MJ decided to be better and chose the No. 23 to surpass Clyde's No. 22 jersey.
In a wider sense, Clyde was the 2nd best SG from ‘87 to ‘93 and this includes guys like Rolando Blackman, Mitch Richmond, Alvin Robertson, and Reggie Miller (I have Miller as 2nd best from 93-98).
I've always said Clyde's game reminded me of Dr J more than any other player. Clyde had a better handle and develped a more than respectable 3 point shot so i understand his move to sg but Clyde would've been even better if he'd stayed at the sf with the offense ran through him. Imo he was to Julius Erving what Kobe was to Mike. I also make the same comparison between Magic Johnson and Jason Kidd
Clyde Drexler was the best overall guard in the history of basketball,Fact.
Clyde the Glide “Drexter” You didn’t even spell the man’s name right! The irony! 😋😆😆
Nah I think yall just slow. Yall the same people that think “certain people” is like sooooooo better then Dominique Wilkins.
You fanboys really are something else! You think jordan was a god! Its the same stuff i see from lebron fanboys.
he was alright. i mean okay. JORDAN showed him and many so-called greats that they were alright as a player.
Sam Jones is the most underrated. And Drexler would be 2nd most underrated.
You had a few incorrect statements in your video.
Um baita jogador, era bonito de ver jogar!
In my opinion, Darrell “Dr. Dunkenstein” Griffith is arguably the most slept on shooting guard in NBA history. Prior to his injuries, Griffith was good for 20 points per game and was a dangerous 3-point shooter. Should’ve made an All-Star team.
He's a GOD in my hometown of Louisville Kentucky
That's the hometown hero here. And contrary to popular belief he had a higher vertical than Jordan. If I'm not mistaken Griff's vert was 46 inches and it was legit documented unlike the fictious or "estimated" 48 inch Jordan vertical.
@@Milt-g4f Yep! Griffith’s WAS 48 inches, his head was 4 inches over the rim (according to a Sports Illustrated article), and he actually was offered a pro contract with the ABA’s Kentucky Colonels out of high school before he decided on Louisville

Clyde Drexler is my favorite player of all-time. I don't think he is underrated or slept on. You can't be underrated when you are in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, made the 50 greatest list as well as the top 75, and is a 10 time all-star. Someone who is underrated does not have the accolades or the recognition.
He's not mentioned enough, period. Gilbert Arenas said he wasn't a top TEN (NOT FIVE, TEN) SG ever. That's...just dis.re.spect.ful!!?? And I just saw someone say on a clip "to me he's just a Siakim type player, right hand only, can't go left"... Really? Pascal Siakim....,. He's is absolutely underrated. Especially in the bias media.
During the dream team practices, Jordan apparently talk so much trash to Clyde Drexler that he completely broke Clyde's confidence and spirit. It got so bad that the other Dreamteam members went to MJ and told him that you have got to stop with Clyde. He's not going to be any good to the team. Jordan always respected Clyde Drexler and acknowledged his talent and skill. But MJ said that the difference between him and Clyde was mental. He said that Clyde didn't know how to mentally play the game.
Clyde didn't have that crazy narcissist trait that Jordan had
Jerry West

100% underrated because the media don't even mention Clyde Drexler in the conversation for Top 5 at the Shooting Guard spot.
He was the player i liked most, those days. Shure he lost against Jordan and Jordan was better, but i just loved ist style and the humble way he talked . And he realjy was a team player
drexler, jordan and hakeem. wow that's multiple back to backs
clyde drexter ??? REALLY !!!
I think clyde and mike are so close to the same that it is hard to say they are not even..the difference is..mike was a ball dominant player where as clyde was a team player
Clyde didnt seek the press..now if clyde would've had a Pippen caliber of player during the games in which they played each other..we would see a different stat line for jordan..mike and Jordan took turns guarding clyde..that is the difference when they player each other
