Don’t worry about what others have to say. You have a great family and I’m pretty sure that if your kids were still hungry that they can get a snack. People really need to focus on their own lives and leave others alone. Keep being a great mom and wife and TH-cam creator!! I love you

People aren't "getting" that this is "emergency" food. This isn't how you or anyone else would prefer to feed your family on a regular basis. But, if something comes up and money is tight you CAN feed your family on the cheap. I love this and wish I would have known these things 45 yrs ago when I was a single mom of 2 taking care of my kids on waitress wages. Love all of your ideas!

Your ideas for getting the most out of $5 are fabulous! It's this kind of thinking and creativity that set kids up to say "we were poor when I was a kid, but I didn't know it." To be able to feed kids waffles for breakfast on an end of the month weekend and follow that up with lunch AND dinner is a dream for some moms. Your tips and tricks will really help some people stretch their food budget and also have a nice variety of vegetables, protein and flavor. Re serving sizes, when you're really on a tight budget everyone gets enough. Not necessarily full, but enough to stay healthy. Many people are so used to over eating that they don't know what one serving looks like. Keep up the good work!

My mother worked for the local elementary school food service and she worked at the school that had the poorest families in town. Everyday she saw kids put food in their backpack or pockets and even more on Friday’s. They were not supposed to do it but she never stopped them, in fact on Friday she gave out extra fruit to those kids.

I'm a retired NC elementary teacher. Our school was a title 1 school, meaning a large percentage of low income families. On Fridays, certain students from the lowest income families, were instructed not to bring their personal backpacks that day. Each teacher would descretly send a specially packed bag home that afternoon. A local church packed them with food pantry snacks for the kids to have over the weekend. The other students were none the wiser and the needy students weren't embarrassed. They just had to return the empty backpack by a certain day.

@@judyl.7234 my cousin was a school counselor in OK and she started a program like that at her school and she reached out to the Salvation Army Church who helped provide her with food and they did food raiser’s and took in non perishables. Other organizations would donate food and backpacks too. She also accepted money(which I happily donated for also) and every Friday she took the kids one by one from her office to the “pantry” and gave them their backpacks and the bag from the Church and then let them pick a few other items off the shelves. Some of the kids were siblings and some had a sibling in middle school or high school and she contacted the counselor at those schools so they could get more help. She made sure to get bags of rice and beans and jars of peanut butter and jelly. She even started a clothing bank at her school too. She now works at a high school but the food pantry at her old school still exists.

Honey take it from a grandma who had to eat jello sandwiches when I was a kid cuz of poverty. A loaf of bread & a package of jello from the gas station was all we could afford. And dear we were very happy to have ANY food at all. You just ignore any of those negative comments. Some people like to complain/criticize/be negative. That's a reflection off them not you. No explanation necessary. And dear, no explanation IS an explanation!😉 God bless you and your sweet family! 🙏💕🙏

I can't believe people comment on your portion sizes. UHG. Those folks most likely never went to bed hungry as kids (or adults). I can remember as a kid having a handful of saltine crackers with margarine on them for dinner b/c that's all we had in the house. Or lunch being 1/2 a peanut butter sandwich or a piece of white bread with salt sprinkled on it because that's all there was. Your budget meals look like an absolute FEAST compared to some of the food we had to eat (or not eat) as kids living in poverty. Keep up the good work educating people on food insecurity and solutions to stretching every penny :)

I love how Dusty loves you!❤️❤️❤️ also how you love him and how proud of each other you are ♥️♥️♥️. That’s something people need to learn also. Y’all are great examples in a lot of ways. Love your channel. I love your emergency meals. You have great frugal ideas. Don’t mind the haters. May come a time we all have to eat smaller portions. Most of us could stand to do that anyway lol! Keep on doing what you do! I do look forward to your videos!

Brooke you always do a awesome job! With your approval can we do a challenge to "feed a family for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas"? Just come up with a few things (that hopefully won't break the bank) to add to your regular shopping trips over the next few weeks, that combined will provide either your own or a family of 4 a full meal.

I wouldn't worry about what others say. Your children look perfectly healthy. They do not look underweight or sick. You feed them 3 meals plus snacks. You have always had fruit or veggie platers out for them on most of your meal plan videos. These are budget options at $5.00 if a family is struggling, and that's all there is some food is better the non at all. I live on the south coast of Australia, and we don't have a dollar tree or wallmart, and food is more expensive here, but I still enjoy watching your videos. The ideas I can use and adjust.

You seem so happy. I don’t know what I like the most, you, your husband, or your children! You are fun. And these five dollar videos are so smart, you give such great advice.

Several years ago I was in survival mode for my family. Fortunately we had a garden! But I was making everything from scratch, including breads and pasta. A friend of mine was visiting while I made tortillas for lunch and basically ridiculed me for not just buying some (keep in mind that I didn't tell anyone how bad things were.) I asked her what the difference between them is, other than the cost in both money and time. I made two dozen in less time than it would have taken to get to the store and back. So while some of you are making your snide comments about portion sizes, or remarking on the prepackaged foods, or the lack of something you personally add to a recipe, please understand that not everyone has the option to be so particular. Any parent will feed the kids a boxed dinner before letting them cry from hunger!

When I had a daycare I could add extra water to the muffin mix and make it go farther. I would just make it like a pancake consistency and put it in a mini muffin pan. The kids never even knew it. You could even slice them and put butter and peanut butter in the middle of them if Do you have that in your pantry

Brooke your $5 series is my favourite of all your videos. I had another part of this comment directed at the trolls who have nothing better to do than complain but I deleted it. One because I know Brooke would want me to be positive and kind and two because I know you aren't supposed to feed the trolls. And I'm Canadian 🇨🇦 and we are supposed to have reputation that we are nice. I will say this to them, I truly pray that you are never faced with an empty cupboard, a $5 bill to get you to payday, and a hungry family. Remember, there but for grace go many of us.
ps - I think the T-Shirt should be "merch"!! 😁 Ky had a great idea!!!!

Be thankful for what she is doing for us. some of us can hardly afford to eat anymore and she is showing us how to. Girl you truly are a blessing to so many of us. Thank you for all you do for us. And now i got to ask you do you have any Daugherty or Hatmaker blood in you. I ask because you look like some of my cousins. lol. Much love to you

Whatever works! I learned to bake a chicken for dinner then simmer the bones over night for a pot of soup for three more meals with a bag of noodles and a bag of carrots. Pancakes for dinner, bean soup from dried beans and a box of jiffy cornbread, spaghetti with olive oil (or butter) and garlic and some kind of sausage….All super cheap. I fed a family of 4, three meals per day on $50 a week for years.

For anyone with a fiesta near then- it’s a Hispanic grocery store-
Every Wednesday all fruit & veggies are super low price, like 3 cucumbers $1, 15 limes $1, 3lbs apples $1 etc.
Thursday is cheap meat day too woth excellent low prices in meat & fish - can be frozen into freezer bags. Once I spent $50 on meat we were good the entire month from chicken to beef to pork! :) family of 5
