The goal/concept of the puzzle was immediately apparent, but the answer to a couple of those baffled me, especially that "Key - Birth" one that I never would have gotten.
Ya know, to be fair, when I first encountered the puzzle, I needed to ask for a hint. I think the hint was another pillar, already lit, with a bird in it and the words were: blue, house, watch. I worked them out after that, but it did take a bit. Of course, in a game, we have multiple brains working on the solutions rather than one person. So, where you and I weren't able to get all of them, I'm sure our party members would contribute. Cheers David! 😀
Oh heck yeah, that would be awesome! Of course, the rogue would probably snatch the hand first and keep it... even though his fellow party member could really use it, lol. Good idea!
My party just encountered an Earth Master artifact , a sarcophagus, and we refused to open it. No harm , no foul was the general consensus. When I first was playing DnD part of the game was discovering what everything was and what everything did. My adventures have graded more towards some sort grittier , more fantasy game. This tends to discourage the random button pushing method of investigation, which I'd say was what we always used to do. I think the game loses something when you don't investigate everything. Just an observation. Too many puzzles end up punishing parties for figuring them out , that's why I love the mummy npc here. I have a mummified kitten in my game that will bond with the party member who frees it. So this disgusting undead kitty us always with them.
I definitely agree. Investigation is a key element of the game, and if the characters do so in a clever way, I'll add a reward even if there wasn't one there to begin with. Having an interactive trap or puzzle that gets ignored due to cautious players can be a bummer for the DM, lol. Also, I love the idea of the mummified kitten! Super cool. Cheers!
Based on how it's set up for demonstration, it might be cool to have each pillar represent a limb/the head and use that to inform the words at each pillar. They could even release each of the mummy's limbs from shackles by solving the puzzle at each pillar, finally releasing him once all 5 are solved. Or maybe they represent each of the 5 senses and with the activation of each pillar, the mummy regains that sense. Just spitballing!
@@WallyDM I think you kind of did. You are matching the clue with the element. The only thing you're missing is a pillar where Mila Jovovich is the answer
No firearms in my game. Maybe Forest , forest fire? I like the beneficent Mummy NPC. Definitely something that's good for the party but not essential . They can't figure it out, no harm, no foul.
@@WallyDM someone said ball too for fire ball, What I really like here and I mostly try to do that when I use puzzles is that solving it grants a boon or otherwise it's like you have encountered a monster. The puzzle doesn't stop progress and getting it helps the party get on.
lol, I was hoping someone would call me out on that. Liliana of the Veil is one of my favorite cards of all time. When I was looking for a slide for that moment, I wanted an elf necromancer but when I seen the Lili art, I couldn't resist adding my favorite planeswalker to the video. Only a few of us truly know the error, haha! Cheers!
ooh, mummy dust could have medicinal properties. Mummy parts were often used in quack healing and in art. Mummy flesh was used to make the colour Mummy Brown.
This is pretty similar to the NYT Connections game. That can be tricky even for puzzle enthusiasts. To help a group, I'd add __ to the inscriptions. For example, "__arm, Camp__, __fly". I'd also include the items they need to use (and extra, false options) in the room to be addional clues, if necessary. For hand, you could also accept a glove or gauntlet.
I haven't played the Connections game yet, but I've seen others mention it. Perhaps I should add it to my daily Wordle routine, lol. And yep, I think those are some great clues to help a party reach the conclusion. Well thought out ideas here, thank you! Cheers!
@@WallyDM It's worth checking out but some of their answers will make you shake your head 😅 I really like this puzzle because it has potential for in-game hints. Sometimes my puzzles are too challenging and it feels disappointing to have to give hints out-of-game.
@@IceDrake523 Ya know, this reminds me of a game show I was watching called "Chain Reaction". I've been trying to think of a D&D puzzle using that game for months. ANd, I'm about to get my first intro to connections... my family just mentioned it today! Great conversation. Thank you!
I love the ingenuity of your puzzles, but I really have a hard time using English wordplay in my games, since different languages exist in my world, and I feel like 90% of the puzzles I encounter involve English words.
Understandable, for sure. I actually hear this quite a bit, with regards to English words in a non-english game. If I remember correctly, that was one of the major complaints about the puzzles in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. I do try to include a healthy variety of puzzles on my channel that do not include the requirement of English as primary language, so I'm hoping you have found my videos as a decent resource... be sure to check out the trap playlist for more goodies. ;-). Thank you for watching, cheers!
Another fantastically done video Sir Wally DM ❤. Always so well done. 👍
Ah, thank you my friend! As always, I appreciate the support.
Great video Wally! I really enjoyed this one!
Thank you so much! I've been spending a lot more time editing videos, so its good to see folks enjoy them. Cheers!

Thanks Fred!
If they use their actual hand, maybe it should fall off. Then the sarcophagus can have an artificial hand.

These kind of puzzles remind me of the connection wall round on Only Connect.
This puzzle definitely has a game show vibe, for sure. But, it works so well here. :-) Thank you for watching, cheers!

Both of these are solid ideas! The senses would be a fun one to run, I am gonna put some thought into that. Great brainstorming here, well done!
CORBIN! I GOT NO FIRE!
Haha, hell yeah. classic. Ya know, I should just do a video on the actual puzzle from the fifth element. I think its time. Cheers!

Liliana isn't an elf, btw. She's a Planeswalker, but she's a human Planeswalker.

Depending on the campaign, "Arm" may not be appropriate for "Fire Arm". Possible replacements are Forest, Storm, Alarm.
Great point, and I really, really like the "forest" idea. I would immediately swap the two. Great ideas, thank you!

Can you let us know where the light up pillars are from?

The slide Lilianna? IF so, yeah, I gave up looking for and elven wizard and included Lili, because she's my favorite, lol.
