13-05-1994 - News item about the merger of Caledonian FC and Inverness Thistle

News item from May 1994 about the controversial merger between Highland League clubs Caledonian FC and Inverness Thistle.
The amalgamated club began life as Caledonian Thistle FC (later renamed Inverness Caledonian Thistle), playing their first competitive games in August 1994 in the Scottish 3rd Division.
This news item includes footage of the last ever fixture between the 2 sides, which took place on Wednesday 11th May 1994.

Couple shocks over Celtic, over a decade's worth of Premiership years and a Scottish Cup later... I'd say it was worth the controversy.

It's an interesting debate even after all these years. Could Caley have gone it alone? Should Caley have gone it alone? Would Caley have had as much success as ICT or would they have found it impossible without the INE money? Would Caley have got in on their own? By now probably yes with Peterhead, Elgin and Gretna all having been admitted since. It's a fascinating debate.

My father and I both went too thistle games @ 112 the guy says thistle name be forgotten so very true super calley all that gaff I stay in Aberdeen now but have been many times back to inverness heard in bars so many times calley mentioned so much for a merger I know times move on never forget past though hence I never liked ICT is there any other grounds that have 1/ 2 stands with no roof not good enough for Scottish weather I may have grown up inverness but since merger it's Ross County the highland team for me
