I had no idea this was a thing. Ty so much for doing a better job than draw distance in advertising this new demo!
Right hand pane is the way to go for text games, Disco Elysium was so much easier to read and go back with its side screen box. Putting the box at the bottom subtitle style is quite uncomfortable and limited when you know better. Still excited by the game, more than vtmb2, wod is killing it with visual novel games.
Oh Good Lore, another fine piece from you. Most of my vampiric education comes from your work, and now I know a fine bit more. And Your beard? Absolutely stunning.

We also have the player character from Coteries of New York canonized. The Toreador PC shows up and is identified as "The Hound", which explains what choice he made.
His bio describes him asa Lasombra, not Toreador.
You have to click and hold?! I thought my demo was broken. I do see what you mean about the new art style though. I prefer the previous. Maybe I just got attached to it, but it feels weird.
edit: no, the characters just look stretched. Like they took the transform tool and literally just dragged upward. Definitely not liking that art style. But I do like everything else. As someone who always pictured the 'Good' ending for Julia as canon that made me grin.

Thanks for mentioning the click & hold thing here. I'm the genius who thought the game was broken for me. And since I hadn't seen the reply, I really wouldn't have figured it out. Now I feel like Draw Distance wanted to make me feel dumb. Specifically me 😂
Hm, I played the demo a few times and I am not to optimistic.
The artstyle and music is nice.
For the disciplines I noticed that they include almagams like Chimestry without really announcing it or how it works, which struck me as strange. I tried all kind of variations and I didn't find a single use for animalism so far.
The timeline seems to be more fixed than in the other games? It didn't made a difference whether or not I did the first little sidequest, if I chose to not go to the RV Kali sat in the metro always at the precise same time (3am).
So far I haven't seen any choices that matter? Like even if she got coke'd up, there wasn't a real consequence.
In general I prefer VN with more choices and the character feeling less like a watcher (of other characters with more agency). Well or VtM stuff to have a mention of the Hecata.
Where I am not optimistic that Reckoning will deliver either.
I do think the delay is to avoid ppl who click through the text fast (because eg wanting to try another response) making choices they don't want to.
If you don't have a power the option is marked as unavailable (which is how I know there was nothing to do with Animalism)
I'm very curious to see how it ties in with New York by Night! We know that NYbN is set shortly after Shadows of New York, but if this is set in 2024, then it's likely AFTER the current events of NYbN. But that would imply that either the entirety of NYbN is already planned out, which sort of flies in the face of an Actual Play, or one isn't actually canon, or whatever happens in NYbN is so irrelevant that it won't matter for whatever happens in Reckoning. And there are some intriguing hints that there are some ties - the map in the trailer shows the Tzimisce symbol in the harbour, which links in with Isaac's sire living on an island (or, alternatively, it's meant to indicate something UNDER the harbour and it's a bit of leftover Eldest or the like ;D ).
I guess we'll have to wait and see, but yeah, the continuity is a big question mark right now.

One thing I picked up on in the demo is all the implications and utter level of nuance in all of it.
It's a different character, and so the writing style is different to fit her personality.
Even the music is different.
It's a slightly lighter more lo-fi feel, whereas with Julia in SoNY it was darker and more brooding.
This character is more off-the-cuff and shifty of wit, whereas Julia was more introspective and frankly a tad depressed.
There's a thick tension in the air, and we get hints of something apparently huge going on within the New York court when we are allowed to eavesdrop on the conversation.
Something big is happening, and it even has the usually pretty steadfast Qadir on edge.
Because that boy is chomping at the bit this time around, lol.
To the point he even subtly snaps back at Payne.
One thing puzzling me still is the significance of the new character carrying around an old Walkman cassette player.
We don't get any indication as to what she's doing with this, but did find it funny that Julia does offer a snide backhanded remark on its contents.
She calls the character "An idiot with a taste for shitty music," lol.
I do hope it has some manner of plot significance, as I expect it will.
Since it's bright yellow on top of an otherwise drab black outfit, it's intended to draw attention.
But yeah, it'd be silly if it were just another case of it's not like kindred aren't notoriously covetous of old baubles, and she's just hanging on to it for nostalgia sake.
Not a big fan of the new text UI, it's distracting and too small.

They should probably just not release it. It didn’t look that good. I really wish that all the clans were available. I also wished that writing was better.
