  • In this video, we take a quick look at a floor scale and it's a really unique view of the floor scale because it's actually upside down.
It's a good video to really demonstrate to you how to build a floor scale if you're interested. It kind of helps you see how you might troubleshoot a floor scale if you needed to do that. Of course, in a normal floor scale, you would have the junction box where you can actually access it and not placed underneath. Likewise, the load cell cables would be hidden in channels.
But otherwise the overall layout gives you a good view of the floor scale. And this is one that a customer built. It has some issues, so we're looking it over and they wanted us to troubleshoot it. So while it's in here on the bench, I wanted to take a look at it, it's flipped upside down so you can see.
And the basic layout is what you see with most floor scales. You've got a load cell in each corner. And then they've got the adjustable foot in each load cell. And then each load cell cable runs from the load cell inside the junction box to the summing board.
And that's pretty much the way most floor scales are put together on the underside if you were able to flip each one of them over and take a look. I wanted to zoom in and show you the basic way that a load cell is mounted under the scale.
Typically, you will have a mounting block welded to the platform. Then the load cells are bolted into each block and then there's a gap between the top of the platform and the load cell and that allows for the load cell to bend slightly whenever there's weight applied to it.
All the load cell cables run to the summing board. Then from there a cable runs from the board up to the digital weight indicator. So, I hope this helps you to understand a little bit more about the way that a floor scale is constructed.
