  • This is a partial recording of the webinar hosted by the Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth (CSP) at the University of Zurich on April 2nd, 2020. The webinar features Taeun Kwon, Head of Wealth Manager Programs at CSP, and in this video she presents a definition of blended finance, including the mechanisms of it it works.
In sustainable finance, we often talk about having impact through our investments, bringing the impact to the finance world. What we do not talk about nearly as much as bringing finance to the impact world. There is a financing gap to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and it’s not clear how to actually close it. Public capital is insufficient and private investors are reluctant given the risk-return profile of investments in emerging and frontier markets. Blended finance, which ‘blends’ development and philanthropic capital with private capital to achieve objectives for both sides, might offer some solutions to address these challenges.
This webinar covers what blended finance is and discuss questions such as: How can blended finance help maximise impact? What are some innovative developments in blended finance? How does blended finance help aid or philanthropy become more impactful? What can be the role of foundations and philanthropic entities along larger public organisations?
This webinar was part of a project sponsored by EIT Climate-KIC and Financial Centers for Sustainability (FC4S).
