Can we not rationalize our past , Rasool Allah saw said that Ali is with truth and truth is with Ali. By this logic if Ali accepted the caliphs then weather anyone likes or not we stick they need to accept. Also by the same logic Moaviya rebelled against Ali and Khilafat so that makes him a rebel in Islam and thus ban ummaiya needs to be condemned for it. It doesn't matter who we consider the authority, as long as we personally don't follow them and their actions, it's completely useless to talk about the Khilafat vs. Imamat, Ali vs. Abu Bakr (as/ra). The important point is praying 5 times, being honest in life, and taking care of the community. If we fail in these simple things, we simply didn't learn anything from the Prophet (s.a.w), Sahaba (r.a) and Ahl al'Bayt (a.s).
That's also my point of view.Allah would ask about Understanding the God's essence, belief, salah ,other obligatory tasks,our duties related to people and society and our intentions.But here people and some so called scholars confused us and programmed us to follow unnecessary debates between sects and all controversies in the past...As far as knowledge about these past Islamic events is concerned,it is good to have such information but wasting time on endless debates which just fuel the sectarianism and religious hatred among the Muslims,seems very unnecessary and pointless.So it's our ultimate duty to teach our younger generation about our beautiful islam and how to apply Islamic teaching to counter the western philosophy and rhetoric.

It's funny how people debate about the virtues of Sahaba (ra) and Ahle Bayt (as), Ali v. Muaviah, etc. and then those same people WILLINGLY choose not to pray even a single daily prayer.

And the reason they are weak is because of pervasive sectarianism spread by Firqa-parast molvis, who divide the Ummah and declare every other sect apart from there's to be Kaafir or Gumraah. ایک حدیث کے مطابق خاتم الانبیاء حضرت محمد مصطفیٰ صلی ﷲ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے حضرتِ امام حسن علیہ السلام کے بارے میں فرمایا تھا کہ میرا یہ بیٹا سید ہے اور اسکے ذریعے اللّٰہ پاک مسلمانوں کے دو گروہوں میں صلح کروائے گا۔ جب چھہ ماہ بعد اپنا حقِ خلافت امام حسن علیہ السلام نے حضرتِ امیر معاویہ رضی اللّٰہ تعالیٰ عنہ کے حق میں چھوڑ کر صلح کی تو کئی سالوں سے جاری سول وار کا خاتمہ ہوا اور وہ سال عام الجماعت کے نام سے یاد رکھا جاتا ہے۔
