I graduate this December but have my first new grad interview today. I feel like with the chaos of being in my final semester, I am not as prepared as I would like to be. New grad here, Passed NCLEX in September and in the heights of my job searching. My biggest problem with clinical interviews is not behavioral-based questions. It is when I am asked situational/ specific detailed scenarios or long-form knowledge questions. I find my self struggling and panicing because I feel pressured to speak as I am thinking about the scenario opposed to being given 5 min to evaluate the situation and having time to formulate my response so it can come out in a way that is professional and directly addresses the situation. When I am answering these situational questions i constantly catch myself saying ummmm and sorry when I am pausing out of "guilt" for not knowing exactly how or what to say right away.
Hi! I totally understand, those questions definitely put you on the spot. I would take a few seconds to think. It's better, I think, to pause and think for a few seconds, versus saying 'umm' ' or 'sorry', even though it may seem awkward. Taking a moment to think shows that you are interested in the question and giving it a lot of thought before, instead of jumping to an answer. I would review some prioritization questions and do a bit of research on the clinical unit that you are applying to as well. You can also talk to a nurse that may have had a similar interview for a position on the same type of unit for feedback. I hope this helps, but I would not worry too much since as a new grad, you are expected to learn a lot on the job! Thanks for your comment.

I agree with @Raina on Demand, stating being a new grad nurse with no clinical experience is a perfect answer. I struggle with what to say to that question and that is the best, and most honest, answer. I like the fact that you followed it up with what experience you do bring in and feel like we, as new grads, sometimes short change ourselves by not considering clinicals as experience. Thanks for the great video, it is really helpful in preparing me for my interviews.
Do you think the response to your " what is your weakness" as being a new grad would be appropriate for a new grad residency program interview? I feel like everyone interviewing in that pool will be expected to be new grads considering the program.
Obviously nclex exam has been a pain in my ass, but that won't bother me anylonger I have gotten my license already thanks to you Mrs Amilia God bless you more cuz you made it possible for me.
After 3-4 years of nursing school, we are being challenged by the ultimate exam "Nclex"... many nursing students face difficulties in acquiring their licences,and many take like 5-7 years after graduating trying to acquire this license.......

I'm really sorry about that but I got used to it until I succeeded, I failed 5 times before I finally passed, It would have been 6 but Mrs Amilia saved me from failing again
