I think this type of perm still needs to be perfected. I haven't seen one that I really like much. I think its only workable if you get this perm and then still use a curling iron for touch ups.
I'm also pretty sure they touched up the hair with a curling iron in the video. You can see some curls that are really defined in the front vs the back even though they used the same size rods.
+Laurence Miaw it's suppose to be multi textural ! And loose! Also whether you're hair is straight or curly or permed, you still need to style it ! It's like someone with straight hair still use a flat iron for shine or smoothing! Having a perm doesn't mean you don't need to style it or dont need to curl it! I know this is old-but when I had a perm all I had to do was wet it and put gel in it. Never had to curl it. So not, body beach wave..not feeling it. I’m getting a perm today so I don’t have to mess with curling irons anymore.
There’s many different type of perms... it’s what your preference. Some don’t even like tight curls. The body waves are really good for texture. There’s women that has super straight hair that curls can’t even hold on for a long time. This will help out last longer. My mom gets perm not because she want curly hair but to have texture so she can have volume when she blowdry. Her natural texture doesn’t give that same results. There’s different types.. depending on the rod you use.
My hair literally falls flat within minutes of curling and I've always wanted to try this but I'm scared I won't like it or it will be hard to manage for when I go to work :/
If you go find a specialist who does perms /semi perms ...i used to work for a guy that could way way better than this...unfortunately that meant he was known for it ..so we got so many perms and fumes were unreal all day..if you get a semi you can see if you like it.
And us with natural waves and loose natural curls have so much volume sometimes it drives us crazy and wish it was straight silky and flat, not knowing straight hair people wish they had our volume and waves ,crazy to think that happens
Did this perm today on a 13yo girl who wanted some wave almost a curl. I used 1” bender rods tho since her hair was to her shoulders. WOW. I LOVE THIS TECHNIQUE. It left the roots alone and it looked sooo cute and natural

Why Color before? What i have learned is that its always perm, colour and then cut? Since the perm is actually drawing out the colour? And have also been thaught that curls/Waves that Big Wont last?

I bet this kind of loose wave would be really good on naturally kinky or curly hair too to help loosen the curls so that you can get the length you want with your natch texture... maybe medium spirals 3/4" would be best for that?

Honestly, it will drop pretty quick. It’s beautiful, but when I’ve used this technique- it literally drops back to straight every time. When my clients want a “beachy texture” I use regular perm rods (orange and green) and perm using the same way I’d use a curling iron to create beach waves. It may be a little tight at first (for a few weeks, but still REALLY pretty - not like an 80s perm 🤣) and her hair will fall closer to Guys’ clients hair after a few weeks and stay until enough roots grow out to straighten up the top half: my long haired clients come in once a year for a beach wave perm. So if you’re thinking about this look, maybe talk to your stylist about your options: they are so beautiful and fun though!

The rollers for the perm that I got were basic 80's style rollers that were waaaay to slim. the stylist told me that it would work. I questioned her and teeter tottered with her the morning of. she said it will work I promise. nope. now I'm left with a look I never wanted. wish I could reverse the perm! Depends on the salon. Your length. And your thickness. You’re probably looking at anywhere from $150 all the way up to $500 (again- many factors here ☺️) take advantage of those free consultations that’s salons do!

If it was done on seperate days - like a two step process - could it be done? That way you give the hair a chance to "rejuvenate"?
It's kinda risky, you can't have treated hair permed but you can get permed hair treated. You need to get someone good so that the color doesn't ruin the perm. Never get dyed hair permed, it will break and fall out.
If you're having your hair processed straight, it would be a hair relaxer, not a perm. A perm adds waves or curls to the hair. It truly depends on the condition your hair is in when you have your hair done. If you're doing bright colors then your hair wouldn't be in the best shape to have a relaxer done, especially if you have dark hair, and your stylist lightens your hair to apply those bright colors. But if you're not doing bright or neon colors, then you can have a coloring service, then in one-two weeks go back to your salon, and get a relaxer done.
Does this mean you can`t perm hair as light as Noras at all? Because I am a tad bit lighter and also have stick straight thin hair and would love to have this type of texture or the beachy waves from your last perm video.
I have naturally curly hair that is tight curls. I have a lot of hair but it is very fine, so it doesn't hold texture up top. I curl/straighten it with a curling iron for this look. Is this a method you could use for curly hair? Or is it ill advised ?
Please help! I have long hair that I root color (permanent ) due to greys. After a couple of years of coloring, my dark brown color started to look like a flat blackish color. So a friend (Nov. 2015) put bleach throughout to lighten the color. My hair has not been the same. My hair snaps like elastic & is somewhat dry. I have been cutting 1-3 inches every 6 weeks to get rid of the dry , dead hair & hopefully creating some new growth. I would like to perm my hair with the teal rods Nora had in this videof to create a soft loose curl. This would allow me to not have to use a blow dryer, curling iron or flat iron my frizzy hair. I pass once with the solution then start again from the beginning. I learned that in tressa. It gives it a few to absorb and less drips off.

There are multiple perming solutions that we use in salons that are special to people's hair texture, and if they have/get color, and/or hair damage.

I have naturally curly hair that is tight curls. I have a lot of hair but it is very fine, so it doesn't hold texture up top. I curl/straighten it with a curling iron for this look. Is this a method you could use for curly hair? Or is it ill advised ?
Please help! I have long hair that I root color (permanent ) due to greys. After a couple of years of coloring, my dark brown color started to look like a flat blackish color. So a friend (Nov. 2015) put bleach throughout to lighten the color. My hair has not been the same. My hair snaps like elastic & is somewhat dry. I have been cutting 1-3 inches every 6 weeks to get rid of the dry , dead hair & hopefully creating some new growth. I would like to perm my hair with the teal rods Nora had in this videof to create a soft loose curl. This would allow me to not have to use a blow dryer, curling iron or flat iron my frizzy hair.
