I grew up in Stockport in the 80's and 90's before moving to Australia. I had a great time growing up in and around Stockport!
I was amazed at this video as i barely recognised a majority of what you filmed. There seems to have been a huge amount of refurbishment and building that has happened over the last 20+yrs.
I hope to go back there to take a look for myself in the next couple of years.

Born and raised in Stockport, work behind the pyramid too and when in the office was walking regularly through the TC too. Not half a bad town that’s had it’s ups and downs and is certainly on its way up in recent times despite what resident whinge-bags and naysayers say, usually it’s those who can’t accept change and investment being put into the town and who want the place to stay a half empty run down, unpolished heap 😂.
The town is getting long term investment to repopulate and overhaul the existing run down areas and transport routes, has a great football club, good facility’s and some good eateries too in and around the local areas.
Thank you for the nice vid 👍

Not a single department store in the whole town. Even NEXT has fled. How is that an improvement? I used to visit the town centre every week because of the variety of the stores, now I only go about once every couple of months when I really need to.

I remember walking around stockport post covid. There were loads of closed down shops and only drug addicts and teenagers up to no good were walking around. After coming out of the redrock and heading to the car some alcoholic holding a stella tried to sucker punch me for no reason. It made me quite sad seeing Stockport in that state so its nice to hear its getting improvements. I currently study away from Stockport and commute from a town far worse than it. The saddest thing is nobody is doing anything about it and the Labour MP who is in charge doesnt even live here because its that bad.

The Underbanks are a run down dump too. Mary Portas tried to help some years ago, but it all failed. I can’t believe that anyone thinks this town is smart. Have people never been abroad to other towns and cities? I lived in Germany for 18 months and when I returned to the UK I could cry at the contrast. It is not clean and is a mess. Camera work always makes places look brighter and tidy. We have lots of new buildings, but they provide nothing really that people want. Multiplex cinemas, trendy cafes, and new bus stations do not replace all the lovely department stores that we once had or the interesting individual shops. Stockport is a nothingness compared to what it used to be. How some commentators can think it has improved is beyond me. Even NEXT has fled the town. There is only one place to buy clothes now in the Precinct and that is Primark - cheap and nasty stuff that people throw away after a few wears!

This video has been excellently filmed, and with its vivid colours actually makes Stockport look attractive. The sad reality though is that all the nice classical and historic buildings that used to make the town look special have been demolished and replaced with square boxes that have no soul. All the major stores have left Stockport and we are left only with cheap and nasty outlets like Primark. As for litter, films always seem to show places in the best light, but Stockport is as litter strewn as anywhere else these days. Compared to similar towns abroad Stockport is a dump, and in my estimation always will be. Sad! (Stockport born +bred).

Very little of what is being constructed will really improve the lives of the people in Stockport. The town was ruined in the 60’s and will struggle to ever get back to what it was. We need shops, not posh bus stations. There was nothing wrong with the old bus station that a good lick of paint would not cure. But Councils love big budget projects as it makes them look as if they a doing something.
We need departments stores back. The smaller ‘boutique’ shops we have left sell overpriced goods to cover the sky high rental costs of the units. We need the big names that can keep prices down due to purchasing scale.
