I think this is the first Super Bowl I can remember. My parents were rooting for the Chargers because they were sick of the 49ers winning. All of us kids proved them wrong. They were bummed out!
I remember watching this as a teenager. One of the dumbest things the Niners ever did was get rid of Ricky Watters. He was so dangerous. A running back who could double as a receiver and be just as effective at both positions. He was big and fast and caught anything thrown his way. God this team was so stacked. Anyone else think Merton Hanks has an unusually long neck? lol
been a niner fan since 1992 i remember this very clearly to this day.. niners have had 2 chances since then and lost them both damn it... it sucks cause chances like that dont come around often... sucks to think what if my niners never get a chance again..
That 49er team was a complete juggernaut. So much fun to watch. And I agree with the posters on here, I don’t think anybody gave San Diego a chance in this game.
+Lindsey Summers: You're absolutely right! "The real Super Bowl" happened two weeks prior when the Niners beat the Cowboys. As soon as that game concluded, everyone knew the Chargers (who beat Pittsburgh in the early game) were no match for the high-powered Niners (or the Cowboys had they beat the Niners).
Lindsey Summers As a Steeler Fan I’m Glad they did!! The Chargers didn’t belong in this game We Did!! I like to think of that it was a curse for them, because for the remainder of the Humphries Bobby Ross Era, they never got anywhere near the Super Bowl again, and even years later with Philip Rivers as Qb and one of the most explosive offenses they still never got to a super bowl. Now he is gone too!! Since 94 Steelers meanwhile have been to 4 Super Bowls, and won 2!! Lol
I think the loss to the Patriots in the playoffs in the Divisional round is more of a heartbreak than this game I still have bad times loosing to the Patriots in those 3 divisional games two years ago and in 09 and 06 smh.
As a big Chargers fan,I'll take a superbowl appearance over no appearance any day, there's team like the Browns and the Lions that have never won or appeared 👀
They leveraged their future to win a championship in 1994. Before they seriously restructured several contracts, signed a single draft pick or free agent, they were less than $500.00 below the salary cap. 1994 was the last year, to me, that the nucleus of this 49ers team was a true championship contender. After this game, they started losing key contributors starting with Rickey Watters and Deion Sanders. It's astounding they lasted until 1999 before they really hit the wall. They had some good teams but they just weren't champions after this season.
i forgot Ed Caffrey played for the niners in this game and when i heard the name come from al michaels i was like ohhh that sounded familiar fast forward 30 years haaha
Nobody thought the Chargers would have a chance of winning this game, this 49ers team was loaded. I actually remember watching the game against the Eagles that season when they loss 40-8 I was completely shocked.

"Well that's quite a statement their defence made the lightning bolts were just hit by one"
That was the game right there at that moment.
These 1994 Niners had a 13-3 regular season record just like the 2019 Niners.
Played during the 75th season of the NFL (currently the 100th season)
Superbowl XXIX was held in Miami just like Superbowl LIV
SB XXIX halftime show had Gloria Steffan while Superbowl LIV will have JLo and Shakira (Latinas)
Number six imminent?
Damn that's crazy!! The 1994 team had more star power tho lol
My dad died in a blues blanket. The blues win the cup. My dad took me to one super bowl. It was the 49ers. This is the first Super Bowl since he passed. They will win
But this time, the forty whiners are facing a much tougher team than the Chargers.
@@josecarranza7555 Whatever Hater...
Rod Turner How am I hating?
Junior Seau and Frank Gifford R.I.P
Steve young is good quarterback he seems a nice guy and my dads favorite niners player is Jerry rice.
The game that made me a Niners fan!
As a Chargers fan, they just simply didn’t stand a chance against this 49ers team…. But proud the fought hard and got to the Super Bowl
I do hope we get to see them hoist a Lombardi in this lifetime.
They’ve had 50+ years of utter misery
@@RYMAN1321add another one.
I was 4 and turned 5 shortly after the game. Vaguely remember bits and pieces. But glad to have witnessed Steve Young and Jerry Rice make history during my childhood in the 90s. Go NINERS
12:39 kick-off begins you've been warned
The first superbowl I remember. I was 8. Now my 8 year old will be watching the superbowl with me this year
I don’t miss these long winded introductions from back in these years. Glad the 2001 Patriots started the team introduction.
Like I've always said, the 89' and 94' 49ers teams were the best I've ever seen.
I’d say the 84 team was their best team.
This game was over before it started...The 9ers were on a mission and they were a wrecking crew.
The Chargers Had No Change Winning This Game Cause The 49ers Were on a Roll!
I rooted for the Chargers. Stan Humpries was at his best. The 49'er were just too dominant. Nice try.
Just found out I was born one day before this game happened
I see a lot of rip junior seau and Frank Gifford you guys do realize there was another rip? San Diego chargers running back Rodney Culver died with his wife in the horrific value jet crash if I'm not mistaken it was several months after this super bowl rip Rodney Culver as well as all aboard that flight🙏
I miss the days when the 49ers won super bowls instead of losing them.
We'll get it next year
Cool stuff! Can you upload a version of this without the commercials?
Right! Or fix your audio because the game is very low and the commercials (from youtube not the tape) are blaring!!!
I think this is the first Super Bowl I can remember. My parents were rooting for the Chargers because they were sick of the 49ers winning.
All of us kids proved them wrong. They were bummed out!
Hope you guys get a title sometime in this lifetime !
But man did they look outmatched and outcoached here.
I was born on this day, in San Diego. My dad was watching this game while I was being born. 💀
Hahaha....his priorities....
You can make more kids.....no idea when your team will be in the superbowl
I remember watching this as a teenager. One of the dumbest things the Niners ever did was get rid of Ricky Watters. He was so dangerous. A running back who could double as a receiver and be just as effective at both positions. He was big and fast and caught anything thrown his way. God this team was so stacked. Anyone else think Merton Hanks has an unusually long neck? lol
been a niner fan since 1992 i remember this very clearly to this day.. niners have had 2 chances since then and lost them both damn it... it sucks cause chances like that dont come around often... sucks to think what if my niners never get a chance again..
If there’s a bright side to it, it’s that they still have 5 titles, more than many other teams have.
ChARGER FAITHFUL SHI Waz only TWO YRZ old . ITZ GUD TO HAVE THESE GAMES STILL ON. GUD TO SEE SEAU #RIP STILL NO SUPERBOWL FOR US.
Ninergang I truly love this ring because my brother hated on my 49ers back then so much he was a Dallas fan hahaha I was 14 memories
The dumbest thing Rickey Watters ever did was leave SF
I don't know about that, he got a ring and then got 7 million to play for Philly. Not a bad deal IMO.
That 49er team was a complete juggernaut. So much fun to watch. And I agree with the posters on here, I don’t think anybody gave San Diego a chance in this game.
18 pt dogs and I believe still the biggest underdog in sb history
Seeing this again all these years later makes me feel real bad for JR.. RIP#55
Much as anyone wanted to believe in monumental upsets, the outcome of this game was a foregone conclusion. Niners were going to win, and win big.
Lol
The Super Bowl in the following year Pittsburgh Steelers I knew we're going to be destroyed as well
@@MrYankeeSteel How do you think the Steelers would’ve faired against this 49er team ?
@@RYMAN1321 They wouldn’t have won..94 was the Niners Destiny..but it would have been a better game..
Watched this in Okinawa on my last Marine Corps deployment ❤
1:08:16 Actually, it was Doug Williams. NOT Timmy Smith.
I think one of the best 49er teams ever
Adrian Daigle Especially that before this game, no one gave Steve Young a chance. Since this was the first 49ers Super Bowl without Joe Montana.
84 was probably a little better.
Offensively it’s between the 89 and 94 teams which are really similar in my opinion. 84 had the best defense and is probably a top 3 team of all time
The real Super Bowl was played a week prior. This was an exhibition with a trophy presentation
I think the loss to the Patriots in the playoffs in the Divisional round is more of a heartbreak than this game I still have bad times loosing to the Patriots in those 3 divisional games two years ago and in 09 and 06 smh.
After the first TD you knew it was ovah
*The greatest Cornerback and Wide Reciever in NFL history is playing on the same team, wow, no wonder why they won the Superbowl Championship.*
As a big Chargers fan,I'll take a superbowl appearance over no appearance any day, there's team like the Browns and the Lions that have never won or appeared 👀
Facts but I wasn’t even alive to experience it, hopefully we can get to one soon💯
Hahaha...
Im laughing, but yes...getting there and not winning is better than never getting there
TH-cam recommending all these old Niners Super Bowls since they are gong this year too
49ers team in 1994 was unreal.
Too bad the 49ers couldn't keep this team together long.
I'm from Atl Ga nd I love my Falcons but thus yr nd this team made me a life long 49r fan..
Nobody thought the Chargers would have a chance of winning this game, this 49ers team was loaded. I actually remember watching the game against the Eagles that season when they loss 40-8 I was completely shocked.
We have now come back to reminiscing the good old days because Kyle Shanahan failed the Niners once again.
Chokers
35:19
I remember seeing that lady cheering because she looked like my next door neighbor.
Too bad her happiness didn’t last very long as her Chargers would get squashed that night.
I am a niners fan myself Steve young you should be a announcer.
Is there any place where I can watch the entire Super Bowl XVI game
vs. Cincinnati? I can't seem to find it anywhere on TH-cam.
29 years later they're gonna do it again
Deion may have been dancing, but those who bet on SF were sweating. If that last heave hits, the Chargers would have beaten the spread.
Someone bet like 1 million on SF to win too. At the time it was the largest bet of its kind.
