When a man's first words are "He's not coming back" while handing you a pair of your bodyguard's bloody shades on your dinner table. You might be in over your head.
What I like about this scene is that Denzel is not just some killer out there - he is a learned and civilized person of the society - someone who is well educated - read books - a good human being but can also kill - a nightmare for bad people. You add all that and see this amazing character - I enjoyed all the aspects of his character.

Denzel Washington and Marton Csokas are both spectacular in this movie, they compliment each other on every encounter and carry the movie with their scenes
Yes, 100%. Denzel shows his chops, which is absolutely expected - it's Denzel! But Marton Csokas absolutely matches the drama point for point. His facial expressions and subtleties are sublime. Both of them accolade worthy for this scene.
Nikolai had an excellent poker face but you could still see the subtle sign of fear as he relaxed his face when mccall asked him what did he see. he acted his part well. didn't seem too fearful on the surface as one would expect not only from his position as a mob boss but also to his character, but with very subtle cues you could see he felt fear and what he saw in front of him, was death.
Yeah thats also why mccall says "you have no idea what death is" to miles after he put the gun up to miles head. Miles could only say "i dont know" when asked what he saw cause he was looking at death and literally couldnt recongize it
This scene was excellent. The tension between McCall and Teddy being a slow, simmering burn with the ominous music in the background. Man, Denzel and Marton had hella chemistry
Teddy sits with his back against the wall so he can see everything that's coming. McCall faces the wall because he's prepared for anything that's coming and it doesn't matter what they send.
They further reinforce it with the dialogue of looking into ones eyes with were Nikolis postioned its suppose to be a seat of power thats why his demeanor is calm hes in his place where he considers himself safe McCall walked in quietly calculated took out his man without a hiccup and sat right in front of Nikoli in his own restaurant and in the end of it all after explaining Nikolis past he asks him what do you see in my eyes as im sitting here in your place in front of you
You can see the OVER-CONFIDENCE exude from Nikolai's eyes when McCall asked him, "you asked me what I saw when I looked at you.....what do you see when you look at me???" 😲😲😲
What makes this scene even more powerful, right at the start Nicolai declines Pushkins call due to not finding Robert(probably out of fear) and then boom in your face with some bloody sunglasses.
They both have a past. McCall has a knowledge of Nikolais past (never entirely’you think you know me’) whilst nikolai has none of his. But when McCall tells him that he’s done a lot of bad things, that he once promised he’d never go back to being that man, then says ‘but for you I’ll make an exception’, man that’s chilling.
I love it how McCall knows about Nikolai's dark past through his classified files, which is his weakness, messes him up mentally and psychologically to get him under his skin, by telling him the past story of Nikolai who was the troubled psychopathic messed up boy who was adopted by the family, did some bad things to them even though they loved and cared for him, and he killed the adopted parents not their children.
I never knew the story Denzel's character is telling here is Teddy's story, that he is the poor boy who killed that scholar, but it makes so much sense.
I love how Denzel shifts when asked "what do you see?" Then drops in to the story his girl handed him. Tells him his story. Sets a little fear of "how do you know this" but for the scene it comes as " you think you know me" he sees he has a real advisory. Cheers
