Hi Mike, loving your tutorials. I think I’ve met you before. Were you a friend of Mike Dobie?
The drums are very underrated in this song...
The drums are boring as hell in this song what do you mean??
@@andreaspapadopoulos1328 you just dont understand the vibe in the drums.
The drums are perfect in this song (the original, I mean), although this video is a simplified version. There are much more tom fills in the bridge section. I assume this video is to help students get used to navigating the time changes.
@@andreaspapadopoulos1328 clearly you are neither a drummer nor a musician. If you were you’d know this was about the stupidest thing you could say.
@@andreaspapadopoulos1328 Crack is whack
This song is soo good and even better with your version!
The timing is soooo great/perfect. Thank you, thank you!
Bro you are truly inspirational. I am currently in grade 3 and was looking at some of the videos you have done of higher grades and it is just awesome. You have helped me so much with your drum lessons and just normal covers as well. I just really wish I could meet you someday, only thing is I live in India. You are just great man.
Side note:- this is my mother's account. My name is aryan.
Thanks for commenting man, really glad vids have been helpful to you. All the best!
Well played Mitchell Pritchett 😉🙂.. thanks for being our virtual teacher during these tough times..👍
The start is really hard. Especially for grade 5. Amazing choice of rolls and fills!
Cheers for watching man! 👊🏻
Amazing!!! Being a Drum Teacher the timings are difficult to comprehend :( but you played it sooooooo well!!! Cheers!!
Thanks! And cheers for watching :)
You’re not a drum teacher if you can’t even comprehend a fucking Ringo song. This is the most simple shit there is
My all-time favorite song of theirs! Thanks for showing us how to play it!!
Always struggle a bit with this one, your vids are a massive help x
You are so entertaining passionate happy great attitude n fact you take the time to make n post all these incredible videos.Very grateful for you
Playing along just lifted my spirits 😊. Great video
Thanks man! :)
Damn, so many people criticizing this for not being exactly like the original. Read the title, folks! Trinity Rock and Pop Drums Grade 5. It's educational material, designed to help students at a particular point in their development. These videos are so useful. I wish we had material like this when I was learning!
Cheers Richard!
Very fantastic video, I remember my first time that I see this video and I had start to do drum lessions, here comes the sun is my favourite beatles song and I tried at play this song on drum but not much came of it, what great memories and greetings.
Nailed it man . I tried it my self . Great choice of rolls . Amazing
Thanks so much for the tutorials. My son just got a merit in Grade 4 and we’re now moving onto this! Exciting times!
Well done! Thanks for watching and glad you dig :)
Mate, I've been pulling my hair out trying to sort out that timing...7/8 to 6/8 to 5/8 then back to 4/4 was NOT one of them I figured. But that sorted it...thanks so much for this great video!
Cheers Sam! Thanks for watching and glad if helpful :)
Been playing for a little over a year with no formal training but I gotta say this seems really easy. College tutors and other drummers make grade 5 sound SUPER difficult to even get to but if this is the level of playing for grade 5 then I think I may already be there, actually a nice confidence boost for my self-hating self
Cheers man! Thanks for watching. Yes this is a great little one to jam along to - don't underestimate the subtleties of the part though! When playing for the Grading you need to replicate the part accurately with all nuances etc as written in the book to get a good mark. Glad you dug, and glad you're enjoying playing it! Cheers :)
My best advice - start at the beginning and follow the grades in sequence, fully learning the parts and reading/theory as you go and building your skills (that's the point!). Cheers!
Nailed it man . I tried it my self . Great choice of rolls . Amazing . Outstanding.!!!!👍
Thanks Margaret, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! :)
It doesn't take a lot of time to comment, actually 😅 .
But anyway it was great😁😃
Hi all, I also now have a full video lesson on this song, you can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/EX3aEX_HtHA/w-d-xo.html
Lovely sound man. Loving the fluidity of your rolls.
Thanks! I'm largely just playing that part from the score, but apreciate it all the same, and thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. Cheers man!
You’ve done a great work, I appreciate it Mike !
I find that part starting from 1:30 really hard to Time correctly and you did it very well. Cheers!
Kaksin Pelailua Thanks, yes the timing of the section is not always instinctive - just take your time, listen lots and count it out. It takes time! :) And thanks for watching!
Kaksin Pelailua it’s easy my friend, u just need to practice it
My favourite song! All my support
Awesome! One of my favorite beatles song!
Cheers Lisa!
nice done dude,it sound incredible
Julian Monroy Thanks Julian, cheers for watching!
Love this w drum featured ...just love it!
You groove beautifully!!!
Cheers man and thanks for watching!
I love this song
Awesome performance, Thank you!
Cheers Hector!
Great! Fantastic video for me to play along to.
Cool man, thanks for watching!
0:20 ( start ), 1:06 ( fill )
Thanks for this cover, I really love it even if I am in grade 8
Cool Gabe, yeah all-time Classic tune! Cheers for watching :)
what about the fills in the middle of the song?
KMA Central They don’t feature in the Trinity Rock and Pop version! Agree that it misses them!!!
The fills are what makes the drums stand out in the song. I think Ringo's drum vision is one of the things that made this song so special and that is completely abandoned here. Is this a drum cover of a cartoon version of the song or what?
Trinity Rock and Pop version? WTF is that even?
kingizdeadable graded songs to develop skills and for exams
Thanks it was very useful for my grade !!!
👊🏻
Really struggling to get this song down
Hi Aaron, the "Sun, Sun, Sun" section can be tricky at first, stick with it and you'll get it - Thanks for watching!
Mike Barnes Drums Thanks Mate
same 😔
I’m working this good!
@@MikeBarnesDrums Yup i know
I love this! You're great, man!!!
🙏🏻👊🏻
2 reasons why I liked this video 1 the song is amazing 2 it's uploaded on pi day
Ha, ok cool!
Hi can you do a lesson on i live for the sun by the sun rays
I agree with you, this song is so great and also is it possible if I improvise on the fills mike?
Of course it's possible! If you're doing it for the exam, you need to play the fills as written 1st time around, then vary the fills on the repeat. Cheers!
Thanks man, great tutorial!
Cheers Roberto!
You are awesome! And also, you seem like a genuinely nice person:)
Olle Jonasson Ah lovely, thanks for watching! :)
Can you tell me what tempo your at? You know 100bpm? 150?
129
@MagicalMelon567 thanks even though this was 6 months ago and I’m just reading through the comments of this and happen to find my own haha
Awesome man thanks play it well. Subscribing now.
Great, cheers man!
2:53 I thought for this fill it was played 3 e and a 4 e and with 3 e and a on the snare and 4 e and a on the hi Tom? Like the first one. But you played it all on the Tom’s am I missing something? Sorry for the question lol
Btw awesome drumming as always
I'm playing it correctly as per the Grade 5 book! It's written on the toms. Cheers
Thankyou!
Very lovely!!!
🙏🏻👊🏻
Enjoyed that,do you set up the drums the opposite way round like Ringo for that authentic way of playing.
Cheers! Ringo didn't set them us the opposite way! He was left handed but played a conventional "right-handed" setup.
@@MikeBarnesDrums that's what I meant,did you set them up left-handed.?
uuuh how can I get those tempo clicks in background?
When you get the Grade 5 songbook, the backing tracks come as a free download in three forms - Demo (with drums), with click but drums removed (which is what I'm using here), and no drums, no click. Get the book here: amzn.to/2RT7dn1
Sir paul would be proud
Andre Andre ha ha thanks man! Really appreciate you watching.
I’m available for the tour Sir Paul if Abe doesn’t fancy it next time around! 😂
thanks again!!!
Wow, amazing, it's very amazing
Can you send me the tabs please?
Thanks for watching! All notation for all the Grade 5 songs is in the Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 5 book, found here:

Cheers!
hi!! great job!!
i was wondering on what bpm did u use in this song?
Hi Arys, thanks for watching. All bpms are listed in the Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 5 book: amzn.to/2POVh4K
Mate! I need your help, as said in the website we need to prepare 3 songs. Can I give a online exam ?.. I am all the way in India it would be impossible for me to fly to london very soon.
Yes, Trinity do online exams - check their website for details!
I cannot the sun, sun, sun part down. Other than that this is the most relaxing and peaceful feeling when playing this :)
Hi Christian - did you check out the full lesson vid I did on this one? May help you on that section!: th-cam.com/video/EX3aEX_HtHA/w-d-xo.html
No I’ll go check it out rn. Thank you!
Мike, Great Cover!!! Focusing on it! But why you did't play drum fills on toms after phrase "Sun, sun, sun, here it comes..." :)
Cheers! Because this is the Trinity Rock and Pop version for Grade 5, and those fills don’t feature in this version. I talk about that in this video: th-cam.com/video/EX3aEX_HtHA/w-d-xo.html
very Nice !!!!!....Thanks a lot !!!!
Great cover
awesom bruh Cheers man and thanks for watching 👊🏻
A cuatro tienes el tempo de él metrónomo ¿
129 bpm. Más lento que el original, creo! ¡Aclamaciones!
hi mike
what are you wearing on your wrist , is it related to drums in any way?
Yes, it's a Soundbrenner Pulse wearable metronome: amzn.to/2XmGF16
Finally got the rythem down, that was the trickiest part for me, took way too long!
Edit: Nevermind, looks like that was a fluke, I can't the rythem down for the life of me, I'm so frustrated rn I feel like chucking my drums sticks across the room at my dog lol time for a break...
Thanks for watching man. Maybe check out my full lesson video on this song? It’s here: th-cam.com/video/m0CcVCQbQOQ/w-d-xo.html
Amazing!
Kiyoaki Komoda Thanks man!
hi Mike, I’m struggling slightly with this song, I’ve got the time signature parts easily it’s just most of the fills throughout the song that I struggle with. if you could reply that would be great, cheers mate
Evie Bush Hi Evie, thanks for watching! Will do a little talk-through vid for this one, watch this space! Cheers :)
thank you x
hi Mike, I did this song for my exam in May and I got an A* so I’m very happy. Now onto smells like teen spirit haha, thanks x
@@eviebush7866 Great, well done! Got a demo video and a talk through for SLTS, check 'em out! Cheers :)
Those ties between the snare notes just confuse me... I don't see the point in having them in the music at all. Any explanations gratefully received 😁
Oh ignore that... You explain it in your tutorial 👍
@@jeffers92 Ah cheers David, thanks for watching as always :)
Ringo invented dance beats.
0:23
When you wanna play this but don’t have a full drum kit
Thanks for watching man!
They’ve cut out all the fills that Ringo does in the 'sun sun sun' part, I don’t know much about drum theory but I guess that would take it past grade 5 🤷♂️
They have! I actually talked about that in my recent interview with George Double, would consulted with Trinity on the Rock and Pop Grades, watch here: th-cam.com/video/FzeWX4OTFlQ/w-d-xo.html
Brother, suena de puta madre la batería. Me encanta la canción. Y si le haces eso arreglos que debía de haber hecho ringo, suena brutal. So cool bro👍👍🔥
Cheers man, thanks for watching!
@@MikeBarnesDrums 1 more suscription bro
Nice😊
GOOD!”
Cheers!
Ringo fue un baterista adelantado para su época , con un sonido potente , simple y marcado ,.. hasta la llegada definitiva de Bonham
¡Sí! Amo los dos :)
I hate it when people post so-called covers and then totally disappoint. 😭
Hi Jud, thanks for watching. This isn't a cover of The Beatles' original version, it's a demo of the drum part as it appears in the Trinity Rock and Pop Drums Grade 5 book (amzn.to/2Njf9fE). It's an arrangement of this song, but with changes made to make it suitable for drummers learning at the Grade 5 level. These videos are designed to aid drummers practising for their Grade exams. Cheers man!
Dude, it's educational. It's simplified so that learners can navigate the time changes.
Cool
Nice
👊🏻
😎 yeah
😍
from 1:30 to 2:13 you played wrongly.
Hi Jose, thanks for watching. No, I am playing it correctly - this is the version of this song from Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 5 Drums. It's a stripped down version of the song to make it appropriate for this Grade level. If you're referring to the lovely fills Ringo plays in "sun, sun, sun" section in the original, they don't feature in this version, which I recorded as a reference students learning this one for their drum exams. Score is in available in the Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 5 drums book - amzn.eu/d/7TCtUgf
All the best! Mike
Ez
This is your interpretation - not the original. Good tho.
Peter Goldstein Hi Peter, thanks for watching man. You’re right that this isn’t the original - It’s the version from Trinity Rock and Pop Drums Grade 5. These videos have been recorded to help students prepare for their exams. The song arrangements are edited to fit the requirements of the Grade. All the best man.
Horrible !!!! you didnt put any fills in there which is hook in the song!
Hi Rick, thanks for watching man. This is the arrangement of this song from Trinity Rock and Pop Drums Grade 5, and it's been simplified to fit this Grade level - it's not supposed to be the same as the original. This video demo has been recorded to help students who are studying their Grade 5 to learn this piece, and I'm playing it as it appears in the Grade book. I agree that it misses the fills, especially in the "Sun, sun, sun, her it comes section". Cheers!
@@MikeBarnesDrums Good point. Thanks MBD
This is not even close to the original drumming in the song. GEEZUS 😕
kingizdeadable Hi and thanks for watching. This is a demo of the part as it appears in Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 5, the drum part is not the same as the original. Cheers!
jajaja tocas como un cachero y la parte mas compleja del tema en bateria, no la haces!!!! tomatela --- in english: hahaha you play making yourself the genius and the most complex part of the song on drums, you don't do it !!!! bye chaoooooo
¡Salud!
Hi, this is a demonstration of the drum part as it appears in the Trinity Rock and Pop Grade 5 exam. It's different from the Ringo original and doesn't feature the big fills in the "Sun, Sun, Sun" section. I record these videos as a reference for my students and others learning this for their exams. It's not supposed to be the same as the original as it's designed to fit the difficulty level for Grade 5. Cheers!
