This video comes just in time: I have received my copy yesterday :). Originally I had only ordered 'The Hunted' but when I read some reviews about how hard it is, I decided to better start off with 'The Hunters' to have some successful patrols before I become the hunted ;)
A little tip that can help save some space on the log... since the shortest a refit can last is 1 month, I always use the month below (or the blank one above) to mark the "toneage" of each ship. I have chicken scratch handwriting, and the extra space helps.
Nice review. I have no ww2 sub games and seriously considering this after your review. Also... Clip, clip, clip. I'm the same way brother. Looks great on the map and a great way to familiarize yourself with the counters especially if/when you sort in trays. Oregon plastic corner trimmer C-006 size R 2.5 clips all typical sizes out there. Thousands of clipped/trayed counters for my games and still going strong. Thanks again for the review.
Hey Gimpy. I agree with you that it is not necessary to roll for 4 convoy targets, but having 4 targets does give you more chance of rolling for something juicy :)
My problems with this kind of games are 90% dice rolls vs 10% your decisions. After a few plays with Silent Victory, I sold my copy. Not my cup of tea. Stay safe!

I just started playing this game and finished. One patrol. Bgg has a good flow chart available as well for how to proceed.
I don't know, between this and DVG U boat and Gato Leader, I think I prefer the DVG implementation to be honest. Feels more thematic. Less die rolly.
Nail clippers because I’m cheap. Even then, only if they look sloppy after punching. Never had an issue with GMT products as far as rough punching.
Craft knife, in Australia currency exchange is poor and shipping high.
Close range with deck gun ablazing. I'd do that too.
Did you ever figure out why the maps/patrols are different? I love this series of games! Great video

I find it's good to pick several. If you damage one and later survive the escort you automatically follow damage ships.

Hi Gimpy! What was the website you mentioned for Silent Victory?
silentvictory.fastwombat.com/#/patrol
@@thegimpygamer Thanks, Gimpy! Stay safe & well!

i think you can only start from the Bay of Biscay once France has Fallen, June 1940
Can I get the map for my older version?
Not sure, it might be available for download on their website or BGG
GMT sells an upgrade kit for the former editions.
I could care less if they have rounded counters or not. Just don’t have a preference.
