Man, I love all your videos. Informative and entertaining. I've just been doing a review of knowledge and skills I've picked up over the last 16 years, but I still learn something new when ever I watch your videos. True Rock Star Optician!
hi, I am an Optometrist in my Country, but I can't work for it in USA, so I Decided to get the ABO Exam, to get more possibilities to work. I really enjoy your videos and your study program. Thanks
Thanks John. I am an Apprentice Optician and have had some struggles with some of the concepts and, unfortunately, don't always get good support from my coworkers. Your videos, with your clear explanations and analogies, have been very beneficial in clearing much information up. My biggest challenge is Prism, so I'll be checking out those videos soon and (since I joined) may be sending questions. Thanks again!
Enjoying watching your videos to figure out exactly what my glasses are doing. Thanks! Also, I may be the only one that got the Monty Python reference, lol.
Very important !!!! The ciliary muscle can MOSTLY overcome that stiffened lens IF the ciliary is in shape, not weakened by readers. Got my lasik monovision reversed once I learned this info.
Hey John, I have been watching your videos for quite some time. I am starting my opticianry program in about a month. I have grasped most of the formulas and other teachings. That being said I am hoping I can use your videos as a jumpstart before my program starts to kind of expect what I will learn. Is this a good idea or are all optician programs different?
Matt, I'd say about 1/2 of all our members are or were enrolled in some other program. I can't count the number of emails I have had over the years saying, "I never got it until you explained it." Do both, volunteer a few places, visit a surfacing lab, read trade magazines... John
Great vids that are helpful to me as a customer to better communicate with my optician! But what is the music in this video? Sounds like the same used in a Monty Python episode that your sight gag at the beginning references?
Father Time comes for us all if we're lucky enough to be alive for his visit. I'm approaching 50, and can now see a difference in my own vision. It sucks, but since I'm also getting AARP things in the mail, it's a good wake-up call that I am no longer part of the vibrant youth that I think I am.
Mohamed, You can enroll in the OpticianWorks program and I suspect at least a few online college programs would accept a foreign student. Look for a NFOS school if you choose that. John
National Federation of Opticianry Schools. That is far less fancy than it sounds. All I can say is that at least an NFOS school will have met some standards and chances are good that the school the program is connected to can probably award real college credits that would transfer to other schools and count towards an actual college degree. Or, to put it another way, be careful, since a few of the for-profit schools offer "optician" programs that are not much more than a scam.
DOH! Yep - getting those tiny little lenses back in the inside of your eye when you can't see is really hard to do. Next time make sure you have a helper with good eyesight. Oh and always do one eye at a time. ;-)

I'll be here for you. John
I wish watching your videos could count for CE credits ... I enjoy them a lot.
Jayme, We have approached the ABO about that. Let's just say they were not very receptive to the idea and leave it at that. John
Your videos are super helpful! I just started working in an optometrist office and I need to learn terms. Thanks for the help!
I will have cataract surgery soon. This really helps me to understand what happened to my vision and what will happen in surgery! Thanks!
Thank you for making all these high quality educational videos. They are really helpful!
You are very welcome.
Love your videos!! Passed my NCLE on my first attempt March 26th. Now on to my state practical!
Enjoying watching your videos to figure out exactly what my glasses are doing. Thanks! Also, I may be the only one that got the Monty Python reference, lol.
You like Google optician to me. Thank you for you hard work!

In which university are you studying the optics program?

Hello doc, the presbyopia degree +400 is so big lense or not? Thank you for answering my question.
In spherical powers any lens that starts with a + will be a lens that magnifies.
can you talk about UNR844 (alpha lipoic acid choline ester) and its effects on the crystalline lens and presbyopia?
No I sure cannot do that. Just an optician here in the US not a doctor or scientist or chemist.
Thank you so much!!
Thanks for sharing!

v.v. super helpful video thanks so much.
Sir! Can u say what are the clinical representation of presbyopia?
No, that would be doctor stuff not optician stuff. John
Very short and cuts of on important point. Really should'we give more explanation with static focal points.
would you say that the crystalline lens works similarly to a rubber band?
Hey, where was the changed ending done at the last minute, and at great expense, by Sy Llama and his relatives? 😉
I am farsighted I can see close up but I get frequent headaches.
