Even today I’m still obsessed over don’t let the kids win and crushing, srsly. I still listen to them weekly. can’t wait to listen to the whole new album, because literally everything you release touches me in a unbelievable way. thank you for existing, Julia!
i listened to crushing just a few days after it came out, it really became a part of me because several songs reminded me of my own issues...several years have passed, i dont listen to it much anymore, but i still know every word ❤️❤️ i get kinda emotional when i think about how long it's been and the person i used to be. cant wait for something new from her
ahhh omg the shot around 2:55 of Julia sitting near the lake is SO reminiscent of 'Picnic At Hanging Rock' to me, especially since the lyrics at that moment are asking "am I gonna lose myself again?" !!! I don't know if i'm thinking of the book/movie in relation to this song just because they're both Australian artists/settings but in that moment she truly looks like one of the schoolgirls about to get lost up in the Rock with all that beautiful Australian nature!! especially with the straw hat. Anyway what a great song!!
I swear that radio 6 is worth the licence fee alone for the fact that they introduce you to incredible musicians and music like Julia Jacklin. Songs like this made my summer, and this is still on play very frequently.
Anyone who balances 'Am I gonna lose myself again' with 'I quite like the person that I am' wins my 'confident introvert' lyric of the year vote any day! And an infectious melody on top?! (not to mention those gloves)! Genius in the making.
From a color theory perspective there’s a few interesting things going on here, especially with the color green. For the verses and the chorus, she cuts back and forth between her in a cramped, dark yellowish house, and her in an open green field. In the house she’s wearing almost fluorescent green eyeshadow and gloves, mirroring the green in the outside shots. While the green outside is natural and envelopes her, the green gloves and eyeshadow are artifice she has coated herself in as if trying to recall the outside, or perhaps as an attempt to ward off the dark yellow tones of the house. However, her dress in the outdoor shots is that same yellow we see in the house. Im sure there are purely aesthetics reasons for all of this (the dim yellow and bright green pop against one another, it makes for a cohesive color palette throughout the video which in turn makes the dark purple clouds feel more intense, etc etc). Anyway, despite the fact that I wrote this whole comment to offer my analysis of the vid, a pet peeve of mine is when people try to exactly explain an artist’s work, especially visuals. They are visuals and not words for a reason. So to be clear, the yellow dress outside maybe calls to the house/“lost” version of Julia, implying she is never fully lost or found. Or that life works cyclically and in both locations she’s in the process of transitioning to the other. Or that she likes the color green more than yellow. Or that the art director, costumer, and set designer thought this was a good choice (although I think Julia deserves more credit than that). Anyway 10/10 video
relating to this song so much right now as I am in a transitional period of self and it’s quite scary to not know what parts that one actually does like about themselves might also be left behind for the sake of transitioning to better more grounded versions of ourselves.
So much _STYYYYLE_!! love the dress / set / everything, song was AMAZING! The new haircolor suits you so well! all those green accents, friggin adore it
I love her so much. She’s the only artist I love that never disappoints with each song she releases. Cherish everything in life as well as I will cherish her Music, Moments, and Her Life!. 💚
When I listened to the song a few days ago in Berlin on the Radio while I was cooking for my family, I immediately started dancing! I love it! It made my day, definitely.
I absolutely love this song and the fact that it sounds a bit like Sonic Youth and Julia's amazing vocals and style. This album is going to be Epic!! Thank you Julia for sharing your talent with us!🙏🏻💜🦋🪷
@@AJandWrmyinitials I said it sounds a bit like SY. Not exactly like them, Are you a MILLENIAL, or even worse, a Gen Z-der trying to school me on a band I liked before you could wipe your own back side?lol😂🤣😁
Her voice is so sweet!`Sorta like I wish she was my mom and she sung to me as a baby. Like her voice is that pleasant/comforting. Heartbreak lyrics are helpful too (:. 10/10
Irwin Chusid from WFMU gave this video such a scathing review this week that I just had to come and check it out myself. Hey Irwin, it's not THAT bad! Lighten up!! :)
Genius, Julia. I knew I had found something special ever since I saw that clip of you wandering around as a T.V. reporter, directed by your brother, on Rage.

I second that!
She has alot of chill worthy work. Third that
What a lovely comment.
just weekly?? literally it’s a daily occurrence for me 😭😭 i need help
I think I survived the pandemic because a friend sent me Crushing and that album is pretty much soaked into the walls of my home.
This is the most beautiful thing
couldn’t have said it better myself

i like that image, soaked into the walls of your home.
That's a beautiful metaphor. Yeah, it lends itself to being soaked into the walls.
I was alive in the ‘70s and there was no one there as beautiful as our Julia. Rock on young lady.
legitimately obsessed with this color scheme

Such a cool song I love Julia’s use of major 7th notes in her vocal melodies awesome stuff🫠
Yes!!! It's the harmony on "again" that takes it to a different place. And the higher harmony in the outro. Stunning vocalist.
Literally mother💐
Fantastic singer song writer. Your music is 💘
Love the Stereolab / Neu! influences I'm hearing on this, well done.
I will say the same thing, three months later. This is musically a great song.
I absolutely love this song and the fact that it sounds a bit like Sonic Youth and Julia's amazing vocals and style. This album is going to be Epic!! Thank you Julia for sharing your talent with us!🙏🏻💜🦋🪷

I was gonna say Stereolab
Yeah it reminds me of Sonic Youth, specifically 'Incinerate'. 😊
@@erikasmith8894 that’s a very weird thing to say. I don’t think you’ve actually listened to Sonic Youth (not closely, at least)
Julia Jacklin mvs are just superior
Its cool she shot this video in my grandparents house.... great song, really digging the new songs so far.
Seriously? Wow. What a great time capsule their house is. . Where is it? I’d guess Melbourne early 60’s suburb.
@@Therenegadeaussie no not really. Just reminds me of their hide from when I was a kid. Looked pretty much identical.
Great track! See you in Brighton soon!
