      In the case of a patient with a tracheostomy experiencing respiratory distress, the priority nursing intervention depends on the cause of the distress. Here's a breakdown:
      * If the cause is secretions blocking the airway:
      * Priority: Suctioning the airway. This removes mucus or other secretions that are preventing proper airflow.
      * If the cause is not secretions:
      * Priority: Administering oxygen.
      * This question and answer comes from a questions bank, but in my opinion, the priority nursing intervention is typically suctioning the airway. Here's why:
      * Suctioning the Airway: Respiratory distress in a patient with a tracheostomy is often caused by secretions blocking the airway. Suctioning the airway removes these secretions, ensuring that the airway is clear and the patient can breathe properly.
      * Administering Oxygen: While administering oxygen is important, it won't be effective if the airway is blocked. The primary issue in this scenario is usually the obstruction caused by secretions, so clearing the airway is the first step. Once the airway is clear, administering oxygen can help improve oxygenation if needed.
      * I have added a correction on the video and on description section.

      Because you can not stop the medication abruptly. Patient needs to check with their healthcare provider first.
