Bernadette. I just watched this video. So very informative. I use a snark tuner and I always set it on vibration. Cell data coverage is spotty in northern Canada. Tomorrow, July 16, we drive to Dawson creek British Columbia. That is mile 0 for the Alaskan highway. I miss my ukulele community.

My problem is that it doesn't pick up any sound half the time no matter what it's set at. I set it to chromatic and it still doesn't show me the note 90% of the time. It takes an hour to even get into tuning it correctly because it just won't pick up the note.

Chromatics are my favorite, too, because that way I can tune the Ukulele any way I want and my creativity has no limites.

Same! But for a different reason... sometimes I tune the ukuleles to a pleasant open chord so kids can strum away and sound good 😃

    This is very helpful. 👌👌👌
I use the chromatic tuner from the beginning because that's where I learn to tune perfectly and by ear. Learning to know which note exactly from what I tuned is very useful.
    Great job Mrs Bernadette.👈👏👏👏👍👍👍💖💖💖
Edited: OMG your eyes. It's so beautiful. Your make-up is so subtle it's AMAZING!!!

Thank you! I just got the Fender FlashTuner for my guitar, and couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t getting the right notes, and was ready to take it back to the store. I inadvertently had it on a different setting besides C. The box did not come with instructions either. You made my day!

Hi Ms. B. Just got a little clip on tuner a couple weeks ago. They are great. Have the phone app as well. Big difference. Now I can watch/play along with your tutorials on my phone and glance at the tuner on the headstock. All good points you mentioned. Everything you said I've done. Twisted the tuning knobs with no change in tone, oops wrong peg, haha. Violin setting, noticed the high pitch before the dreaded "pliiingk". And the chromatic setting, love it. Great for finding notes. Plus I've tuned my tenor to 432hz, so it's really simple to stay in tune with the chromatic setting. Glad you made this insightful nugget of knowledge.
I've emailed the Flight company, just waiting on a reply. Be cool to have a different color for each day of the week:) Alas, my pocket book says no. My brain says get the elegant Black as it will coordinate with every day. My heart says, just make music, even if it's with a piece of string tied to a broom handle and a tin can.
Happy travels as you sing your life's song, with all the happy people you meet, wherever you roam in Japan. 🙋

      Hey!! 👋🏼
It’s always so nice to hear from you. I would have never made this video if I didn’t see my students making these mistakes over and over again. I thought this video idea would be too simple.
Reading your response I see that all my students, even my TH-cam ones, make these mistakes 😃 and that tells me there is a point to this video.
Let me know if the flight company gets back to you and let me know which colors you end up getting!
Currently sitting in a train headed to Dazaifu :) will be updating the Instagram story

      Bernadette Travels Musical🙋
Hey! Ms.B, Love a good train trip. Hopefully you're reading this over a bowl of deliciousness. As my belly gurgles, I hungrily await your Instagrams visual tasty treats.
It's only been five months since I've pick up this first stringed instrument. So basically I'm in kindergarten, musical. It's so nice to have a teacher point out the little things. May be simple yet for us they are another small chunk of knowledge that helps build our musical foundation. Plus for those who already know a refresher course is always valuable. As you taught us about repeating the scales over and over. A video like this, is a positive, just in case any habits of the bad have quietly creep into our technique. Even Jose with his years of experience and skills probably has to do a review of the basics every now and then.
Music is good medicine. All these seemingly simple videos may just be the prescription for what had been ailing someone's music. Sometimes all that's needed is this simple sweet, lemon tea video, to cure our musical hiccups.
I most definitely will keep you in the loop in regards to my Flight update. ( sounds like I'm traveling, I guess musically I am:)
I'm thinking they probably have miles of emails to read after your presentation on TH-cam.
Well, clickity clack, best let you get back, to the trains soothing melodies.
Say hi to a big plate of mmmm for me please.
      🙋🍣🍜🍝🍲🍰☕💕

I was trying to fix my tuner because it wouldn't tune my 3rd string (third... thinnest? G-string?) to f#, and half way through your video, no touching the tuner, you have fixed it. I can now tune a f#... I don't know how or why. Thank you magical guitar wizard lady, you have blessed me with the ability to play f#.
(No, but seriously, thank you so much. I never knew I could switch between chromatic and guitar, I've literally never pressed the button aside from turning on and off the tuner, you were a ton of help. Whatever magic you did to make my guitar not sick as well, that is massively appreciated.)

Bernadette, it's not thinking that you are playing your E string. You just tuned down your G string to a low E. The tuner is working properly. There are many octaves on the music scale of the E note. The thicker the string the slower the vibration and the thinner the string the faster the vibration. I am assuming your tuner works by picking up the vibration. That is why your tuner has different settings, like Bass, Guitar, etc., because each instrument has strings of certain thickness. So, that is why they came up with those various settings. These are optimum use settings for each instrument. But again, you are still more than welcome to use the tuner however you wish. Good luck on your videos. :-)
