9:23 there’s some legendary neck strength, I have seen this in a dojo first hand (not sasaki but a fellow Japanese judoka) it is quite impressive. What an amazing clinic sasaki gave us. Wow.
Thanks for posting this, mate. it's brilliant Judo and it's also really great to have your calm commentary which allows me to enjoy listening while still concentrating on the fighters. I'm a big fan of Neil Adams and his Judo but I hate his commentaries, they're super intrusive and annoying. Please keep up the good work. Best of luck from the UK.
I honestly have thought how much better it would to be having you commenting for the IJF. Especially to replace the other main commentator who is just awful and takes every opportunity to disrespect the athletes while commentating. Send in an application mate!
Jesus. Knowing how dominant Grigalashvili is, seeing this back in time. Sasaki is nuts. Like you said, complete. Just fluid between all categories of techniques.
its not the fact that he beat casse and grigalashvili, but the WAY in which he beat them thats so impressive. Sasaki is the real deal man. Really exciting style of judo to watch.
I really like his judo. But the question is: Will he be consistent? Because the -81 kg category is so unpredictable imo. Hope to see more of him in this way ofcourse.
I've been posting for a long time on your chanel that this guy is the best in the world. I really don't know why they didn't take him to the international scene before. He's sent a very clear message to everyone, including Nagase, and even to Ono who might want to think twice before changing category.
Ono wants to change category? I didn't know that! I'm sure he can handle big guys, he's so impressive, and perhaps he need a challenge to keep going, since I was under the impression he was bored during Tokyo Olympics. A reason why he lost in the team, I think. But I can understand. At first I was happy that the games weren't cancelled, but then, to see the Japanese judokas robbed of the joy of public competition, doing so well in an empty budokan, it was nearly distressfull. Is not the public the reason why I feel like the highlights of the Paris Grand Slam are better that the Olympics? Anyway, thanks @Judo Highlights, I never noticed Sasaki before!!
He seems very strong but I think he can still improve in terms of finesse when you compare him to the likes of Ono... But then again that goes for pretty much any judoka.
The reverse morote he threw looked pretty refined to me, not to say amazingly refined. I don't know of any other judoka who can throw a reverse morote from that position. And what about his uchi mata counter? He waited for the Mongolian to put in all his strength and then suddenly removed his leg to throw him with zero effort. Simply amazing in terms of finesse. This guy right now is technically as good as Ono in my opinion, and has the strength of a strong 90kg fighter. I think that if Ono goes up to 81, he's gonna lose against Sasaki.
The problem with Sasaki is that he's wildly inconsistent. He'll beat the best of the best in the world in one tournament, and then lose to no-name 90th ranked judokas in his next 2 tournaments in the first round. Sasaki can win against anyone, and lose against anyone. There's no consistency to his performance, which is probably why he's rarely chosen to compete at World's, Olympics, Asian Games, etc.
@@JudoHighlights2015 I truly believe a healthy, consistent Sasaki is the best -81kg judoka in the world, even better than Nagase. I really hope to see him reaching his potential at 2024 Paris!
At least for me i was taught by my Sensei that the traditional sweeping motion is Osoto Gari (the one shown first) and the hook to the back of leg he always insisted it was an Osoto Gake.
Judo highlight and fans, what is your opinion or using this style of judo in a mma fight or tournament, I just got registered to a mma company because am a good judo fighter, and not that am trying to be a judo idol, but I wish to represent judo well in the octagon and perform at my very best,so what do u think or have to add to it,Thanks
Indeed what a performance, he made the top 81 guys look like they are completely lost! I think part of it was the surprise effect if it is takeshi's first international tournament.
Fujiwara doesnt attack much thats his downfall but hes a bit more consistent than Sasaki. Sasaki has gotten better and will definitely be in the convo for Paris olympics
Sasaki is simply great... As the commenter, unless some injury happens to him, he should be Japan choice for Paris in his division. Simply great... The first wazari, I also thought it was an ippon until I saw the review: there was a Grigalashvili's final movement to avoid splash his back on the tatami... I though that movement was forbidden, I mean, put all your weight on the neck and rotate... At the end, it was better because I saw some more judo. Thanks.
Nagase winning the Olympics was a little surprising as he hasn’t displayed the form he did to win world title since winning said title. A quality judoka will always be able to pull something out but I think his Kohai - Sasaki, will likely start seeing more competitions. Fujiwara is largely done now, he also hasn’t really had much form since his world silver.
@@JudoHighlights2015 That's a good point, I had completely overlooked that! That being said, I still didn't think he would pull it off. Now really could be the time of Sasaki, should be exciting :)
6:55 Yeah that's Korean seoi nage. That rotation isn't weird for Korean seoi nage though. It's a common variant called The Choi (named after Choi Min Ho). You can see it at th-cam.com/video/8D_tQr1eh5U/w-d-xo.html. There's 3 variants of Korean seoi nage: 1. forward throw version using the baseball bat grip used for korean seoi nage 2. 270 degree rotation, side-ways throwing version (commonly called The Choi). This version will look similar to a kata guruma. 3) 360 degree rotation, backward-throwing version. (this is what most people commonly think of as 'korean seoi nage')
Is there any footage of him vs nagase? I really dont see nagase beating him after this performance Edit: I dont think bjj transfers that directly into judo ne waza

that throw he did to the Georgian should've been ippon.
