Plus Ikalgo continuously shooting him as well, basically torturing each other at the same time. Prince Tserriednich has also been skinning women alive and hanging them on his wall as art, this may also fall under madness. Splatter: Pretty much all of Alluka's victims fit this description. And some ants like Cheetu were litteraly splattered. Cannibal: During the Castro fight, In the manga Hisoka starts to eat his decapitated arm to freak Castro out. Phobia: Leol suffocates and drowns to death which I know is a somewhat common fear. Survival: The entire succession war arc is nothing but a survival game for the Princes. Also the Spider have to survive Hisoka's incoming attack. Slasher: All of Morena's group are out killing innocent people, especially Luini who is hiding in the walls similar to Bruno. This also fits into the crime category since Mizai is investigating the murders.
Kiddkyle67 I know that the 4th prince killed those two women but did we see that in the manga. I don't know how togashi would get away with showing that.

hunterXhunter is easily one of the Most Fucked up shonen out there (DONE RIGHT), and i love it for that, it can go from light hearted Adventure to PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR in a Snap
The scariest thing for me and what Hunter X Hunter does the best, is the Puppet Master type of horror, where someone or something has taking over your body and robbed you of self control. Like Zombies or Vampires or Vudu Hypnosis or Dr Jackal and Mr Hyde, they all show loss of self control turning everyday humans into soulless monsters. Loss of Consortium The best example is the spider gang killing the ants in their home town. Loss of self control is a very common theme in Hunter. You have lighting boy being controlled by his evil brother. And both Gon and lighting boy not being able to move because of evil clown. Human being turned into ants who then eat their friends and family. Kite being controlled by the cat. Gon losing self control when he did that big thing.

I think the one thing that bothered me more than anything else was how gon fell in the end and the sheer difference between him and killua Gon became a cold,enraged,and absolutely mad individual who lost all sense of morality and was even willing to possibly kill a innocent girl while killua became the rational and reasonable one who tried to calm gon down or at least not get a innocent girl murdered even though in the beginning of the series he was little more than a cold assassin

Yes! The humans of the HunterxHunter world are horrifying. Just like humans of the real world are horrifying. The true nature of humanity is horrifying. The world is grey! Everyone is both good and bad. Humans have become numb to the horrors. Rose Bomb=Atomic Bomb. Togashi is brilliant by making the series feel real, by making the characters human! Everything the narrator said, during the Chimera Ant Arc, about the horror of humanity...how the humans were worse then the ants. It all corresponded as true to the real world as well. XD

......Yet the Ants are just benefiting from humans intellect. There is no parallel Merume Is prodomatly the creation of mans self awareness itself. There is no hypocrisy when its man vs man hybrid. Netero hit the nail on the head he was just another insect for humanity to squash.
Is it weird that I prefer Yorknew arc over Chimera ant arc? I don't know. Yorknew just felt more consistently great and had much better (to me) villain group and fights were much better while Chimera ant arc was a mess in some places, it had sometimes great characterization like for instance Meruem or Knov, BUT sometimes there were characters that I really did not care about that were just stealing precious screentime like that octopus or lion. And the pacing was sometimes just awful especially with attack on palace. I still loved this arc, but it had too many problems for me to call it the best arc and to call Hunter x Hunter a masterpiece.
I think the same altough the Chimera ant is GREAT, the Yorknew arc was just Better in almost every way, if anything the Chimera ant arc works as some kind of Shonen Deconstruction mixed with horror and Adventure (Which HunterXHunter pretty much is)
Yeah I agree. Every arc has its highs and lows. Chimera ant arc had incredibly high moments, but it's low points were still there. Yorknew on the other hand was fairly consistent in its quality, there wasn't much to hate, where as chimera ant arc had too many unlikable characters. Most of the chimera ant captains were unfun, and felt like wasted potential. When it finally started getting good, the anime was actuary catching up too quickly to the Manga so the pace ended up slowing to a crawl. Still a great arc, some of the more amazing moments came from it, but there was a bit too much downtime, and many of the fights were forgettable. That fight between Gon and that bat and buff owl was pretty meh, despite how Gon figured it all out

Also one of the gripes I have is that villain wasn't as good as Chrollo, I mean Pouf was interesting and was well written, but he was still quite annoying when Chrollo was a well written badass with intriguing personality.

The lion was meant to establish why morel was a savage and the octupus was meant to showcase the good in chimera ants.
