So sweet that lil birdie resting in the jade. That is so neat you were able to film him. Thank you for sharing your videos. So enjoyable to watch and learn about these beautiful plants.😍🥰❤️🌵
Hi Debra! So glad to see you back! Loved the video. Some of the plant shots are beautiful with some beautiful specimens too. Please keep the videos rolling, I, and am sure many others, miss seeing you and the videos so much. Thank you for sharing this video with us. From the garden city of India to you, have a smashing Sunday! Cheers and God bless.
Thanks for sharing! I recognized a lot of plants that were the ones flourishing in our garden, although we aren’t the best gardens. I’ve enjoyed your videos for many years!
Hi Debra I must be doing something right as I grow most of these in my garden in Victoria Australia!! Aeonium haworthii was the first succulent I grew as a child and its still growing strong!
Me too! It grew in my parents' garden in big rounded mounds. At age 5 or 6 I hid a half-eaten can of chocolate frosting in an Aeonium haworthii shrub so my mother wouldn't find it. LOL
Have a question on ANYTHING to do with succulents? Go to debraleebaldwin.com and browse the menu or use the Search bar. Btw, my site is not monetized---no annoying pop-up ads. It's my gift to my followers and the culmination of my career as a horticulturist/photojournalist specializing in succulents. You'll find 100+ pages of tips and ideas; thousands of photos and must-know facts for specific varieties (including those mentioned here); curated design ideas for gardens, landscapes and containers; interviews with experts; seasonal info; and much more. Use the site as a research tool that also is entertaining---the same goal as my TH-cam channel. Q's welcome!
Thanks for another great video, Debra. I am perplexed that I had not yet subscribed to your vids on TH-cam. That has been rectified just now and I also hit the notification bell. Thanks for all you do! Dale
Hi Stephanie -- I have only a vague idea, not being familiar with your region. You're better off consulting members of the closest Cactus & Succulent Society.
Hi Debra, where do you live? I am in Murrieta and given the extreme heat throughout the summer make growing many of these plants a challenge. I really have no shade, no trees, just lots of sun. I have great success with euphorbias, pedilanthus, barrel cacti, aloe, prickly pear cactus. I see on your website you mention mild conditions and not dessert heat is needed for many plants which of course I dont have here in Murrieta. I have owned at least half of the crassula and echeveria shown on your website yet they in a short time don't look good, either the leaves dry up or get soft and I just cant seem to make them happy be it in a pot or in the ground. I cant seem to get plants such as echeveria ,aeonium to flourish. Those are the plants with so much color and variety that my landscape needs yet along with my other plants they must need much less water or less sun because when set in the same soil, same water drip amount, and exposed to the sun all day as the others, do not respond the same. Can you please suggest what I need to do or which plants to buy that will add color and variety and wont be so frustrating to gage their water needs. Many of my plants are just green and until they bloom they dont have much color variation. I water when the soil is hard and dry (i check before I do so with my finger or a moisture sensor)then after watering them they become mushy the next day (telling me that its too much water) so what do they want? Trying to keep them from burning is a huge challenge and even in the shade the air is very warm and they seem to just look dry, tired, unhealthy and again even a little water and they turn to mush. Is it possible to get these plants to thrive where I live and if so what am I doing wrong? Could you list for me 10 plants (even if they arent the ones I mentioned) that will easily acclimate to my existing landscape, are readily available for purchase nearby and should easily thrive in my specific microclimate? Thank you, Debra!!
Hi BB, you need far more help than I can give you in a brief reply here, but the good news is many of your questions are answered in my books, videos and website. Basically, your climate is the same as mine, but the difference is shade. Before you do anything else, PLANT TREES.
Not convinced you can keep these healthy and happy? No worries, you will be after you see this page on my site dedicated to succulent care. debraleebaldwin.com/succulent-faqs/ 🤓
Why do the fronds of the bottle palms sometimes have that beautiful, fountain-like appearance and then sometimes they just fold over? I have two in GIGANTIC pots in my yard, about 20 ft apart, so same exposure to sun, wind, etc, but only one has the fronds bending to the point they crease and then sometimes break off. This happens all over the crown, not just at the bottom.
Thank you kindly for replying! I mean the leaves. they grow out from the stalk (trunk?) but instead of going up & outward (good example at 4:12) , they grow straight out and then it's like the leaves are too heavy to continue and at about halfway they flop over. Also, it wasn't always like this, this has just happened in the past couple of years. My gardener has no clue what's causing it.

What a beautiful blessing, thank you for sharing Debra!
Thanks Abbie!
Aww.. Such a proud grandmother . I miss mine ! Beautiful succulents plants.
Wow, I didn't know this about the flapjack. I have 4 of these, just started, I didn't know to not let them bloom. Thank you.
It doesn't kill the plants, just weakens them. They usually bounce back.
Debra, your succulent garden is beautiful 🤩 Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience 👍🏻🌹
Thanks, Gaziza. I'm very pleased you liked it!

Is flapjack have white powedery stuff around the branch or its milibugs?
The powder is normal. Mealy bugs can be seen with the naked eye.

May I ask what the succulents be winter hardy in South Louisiana? Thx so much😘🙏🏼😌💞
Hi Stephanie -- I have only a vague idea, not being familiar with your region. You're better off consulting members of the closest Cactus & Succulent Society.
So are you saying all these withstand frost in your garden?
No. The kalanchoe and jade have to be protected.
@@QueenofSucculents exactly what I thought :-)
What soil you use it ?
Bagged cactus mix from any nursery. Learn more about succulent soil and amendments on my site debraleebaldwin.com/pumice/

I’ll have to give disbudding my Kalanchoe lucidae a try. The hummingbirds will miss a meal but the plants will look better.
Enjoy ur videos very very much thanku! The bottle neck palm in this video truly looks to me a PonyTail Palm...🤔
Same thing.
very beautiful~~👍🌼🍀👭
I live up in Portland. I would really welcome a video about where us "Northerners" can see cacti and succulents in public gardens around California.
I'm working on one you'll love, Kelly. Thanks for the comment!

When you say "fronds" do you mean the leaves or the sprays of flowers?
