I’m in PR (though not entertainment space), and it’s interesting and somewhat frustrating to try and discuss my opinions about this, without now hearing “well the anti-Blake campaign just worked on you! See that was Baldoni’s evil plan, little did we know!” and to that I say…. no, I was aware when they did the press tour that Justin Baldoni had his own crisis team, and everyone was paying attention to the glaring tension between him and Blake, and it was clear from the completely different tone of Justin’s interviews vs. Blake’s that they were using different PR teams and strategies. What I am really interested to see proof of, is as Blake alleges, was it Sony who was pushing the lighter more triumphant talking points that skirt around all mention of DV, or was that what Blake wanted to do bc she was also promoting Deadpool and her hair and liquor brands, and didn’t want to be speaking on such a sensitive topic in general since she’s known to not really broach those with a great deal of tact (remember what she said after Weinstein story broke, plantation wedding, etc). And I was seeing a lot more coverage ABOUT people being turned off by her tone deafness, and noted it bc I have always had that opinion, personally, but it seemed like it had broken through to mainstream entertainment news. But I think it’s also good to remember to take a step back and ask ourselves whether we think her hair line tanked bc of Justin Baldoni’s actions, or bc of Blake’s actions/product - bc that’s what she’s seeking damages for. I have not heard that about Justin Baldoni in the past, and I believe Blake’s PR team would have been highlighting those instances in his earlier work, if they existed. She was having her PR people place stories when the movie was being released about Justin fat-shaming her - where did those come from? Will Justin subpoena her PR people regarding this legal complaint, and their relationship with the NYT? Then there was her promoting it as a romcom and to wear your florals. From what I can work out the public backlash to all of this seems to be what Blake considers retaliation. It seems to be beyond her comprehension that people could organically be speaking out about the way that she promoted it. Also Kjersti has spoken out saying that no one contacted her in any way regarding that interview. She has also said that when you do an interview at one of those press junkets the studio has the cameras set up for the day, you come in do your interview and go. They then send you the footage of your interview. This means that if someone from Blake's team or the studio had any issues regarding that interview at the time then they could have cut that part out or refused to had over the footage (Kjersti knows someone that has happened to, different movie, different actor).. That means that at the time of Kjersti's interview no one there saw anything amiss with the way that Blake was behaving.
