i think they nailed it with this rework. adjusted the power perfectly. put a little more power in some areas and took some power away in others they honestly did a great job with this rework…. BUT he gets absolutely obliterated by orisa. she’s just way too oppressive. her hard CC completely ruins ur ability to play the game and enables her teammates to completely run free. you can’t check ur big counters like bastion or ana when they have a horse. she takes up ur whole screen she pushes u around with her spin she stuns you out of ur hooks and she never dies. against quite literally any other tank he’s great. bastion is really oppressive for the tank category in general aswell but i think we get to that after we deal with the horse. in higher ranks you have smarter DPS player/meta crutchers who will make plays off of the horse bullying you. but this is with any tank not just hog. she’s just way too oppressive and enables her teammates way too well. please do something about the horse. i don’t think jav spin should be able to push people and decrease the hitbox size of the spear also lower it’s damage. increase fortify and jav spin cooldowns by 2 seconds. the nerf suggestions are big but they are manageable she’s been broken since launch please nerf her into the ground this is not a character that ever needs to be meta.
I think Hog should have a hinder-esque effect. Not a straight up "YOU CANT USE ABILTIES" but something like "Your abilities have longer cooldowns and are interrupted."
Just a little trick that's not that helpful, but good for that extra bit of damage on a tank; have a trap down, wait for the next trap to be available and throw it straight up in the air. You're going to want to hook the tank to ur trap fast enough to set it off and then the second one comes down and sets off too. Just a silly thing you could do 😁
Some things about the rework still need to be ironed out before he's (almost, ignore the fact Ana still exists) good otherwise. Breather- should be 40% DR, heal 175 per second, and have a 2.5 second max duration instead of 3. Slightly less total healing for holding it down the full duration, but faster and blocking more damage. The total cooldown for the full duration would be 10 seconds instead of 12, so it's the same ratio of 1 second of use = 4 seconds of recharge. Pig pen- make it do 10 or 20 less damage on activation, not knock enemies into the air, and be activated when someone walks over any part of its area, not just the trap in the center. Other than those, the rework didn't change too much, the primary fire seems better both at range and up close which is good, and apart from other heroes needing to be changed, I think Hog is almost in a good spot.
This may be a hot take, but I don't feel like the rework actually addressed any of hog's problems or the team's stated objectives for hog. He doesn't really provide any more frontline presence (arguably less without old right click) and aside from possibly orisa, all of his counters are the same and basically just as severe. I don't think Pig Pen adds much to his gameplay except for making his hook combo (something they wanted to reduce the effect of) even better, albeit in very niche scenarios.
He's actually way better in my opinion. Traps are such a good thing with hog. It's something extra for the enemy team to worry about and if they don't, they get killed basically with that hook combo. For he's counters, I think his size is the main problem. Just too easy for ana to hit, but any other counters the breather bar helps because you can't lose ur cool down for it now. His new shot allows more consistent damage, which is important.
F tier literally almost never exists in competitive games, its just when a character is so bad they're unplayable, I don't even think twelve from third strike is F tier

I kind of have to agree with Cyx, at this point it's a numbers game because how they have him designed is honestly really good. I always felt like Breather was a good ability but it needed a little more umph, and this change definitely hits that. I will say the damage reduction difference is definitely noticeable, but it only have a 1 second delay between uses regardless of interruption, assuming you have the resource to cast it, makes up for it. His sustainability is honestly much higher, and caters to his original design philosophy of being a slow moving roamer/flanker that's questionable to chase sometimes. Think of it this way, he's at low HP, peaks a corner, gets peppered by someone and they see he's at low HP... Your average player, no matter their role, usually sees a low HP bar and forgets what the game is about, only wanting to do one of two things, heal it to full or finish it off... You chase. And there's one of his many strategic philosophies, to lure an enemy in with low HP that can quickly be recovered, forcing an enemy out of position either by his low HP or by force with a hook, or simply keep them out of position by hooking them back in. Idk... Either way, as it is, he is perfect, but does need some number changes. Personally I feel the 30% is fine where it is but the cool down till full on resource needs to be reduced to somewhere between 7-10 seconds. If they stick to the 12 seconds, then I feel the damage reduction does need to be brought back up, or he needs to gain some kind of extra benefit; for example if he happens to channel for a full 2 seconds, his movement speed is increased for a short time, or maybe just give him a move speed bonus while channeling, like 10%, enough to noticeably get behind cover a little faster, as that is his only current way to truly mitigate damage instead of just reducing it, whereas someone like Zarya or Orisa can cast an ability that makes them immune to CC for a short time, which I feel is starting to become a thing for tanks to need in order to really establish themselves, specially Rein because I'm sorry, I died laughing when I seen Mauga and Rein charge interaction. That's just sad. Like I actually felt bad because that just makes his cardboard skin that much more logically sound. May as well swap them for which one is canon to his story. Either way. That's about the only change to Hog I feel needs to be made right now is to Breather. The rest of his Kit is fine, and Pig Pen is still too fresh of a change to really think of anything drastic aside from maybe adjusting the trigger radius to be slightly larger. Like, half a meter maybe, but then again he can just yank someone into it so... Debatable really.

Can someone explain why whenever cyx is turn hooking someone, it goes the opposite way first? For example, at 1:41 he hooks the bap to the right, but the view goes left first?
I have 3 thoughts 1.) He didn't want bap to get stuck on the building by immediately pulling him towards it. 2.) Maybe hes trying to hide his head hitbox because theres nothing else to do in that second. 3.) I think hook used to pull enemies to your feet, so you needed to turn enough so that roadhog reorients his legs instead of just his torso. Not sure if that's still the case
I think Hog's new breather is a good compromise from what it was. Sure, it doesn't give the 50% damage reduction nor does it heal as fast as it did before BUT you can use it in smaller intervals and you're no longer stuck with an 8 second cooldown of it gets interrupted. So all in all, it's good.
Except you you have no dmg reduction when they have a zen and then Ana on top of that is icing on the cake, hog can’t do anything if they have zen,Ana. Period. You push you get slept, you hook you get Ana naded. Zen discord orb on all the time. Mean losing match
My opinion stands that DR should be 40-45% otherwise it’s like he has zero DR versus that combo, but not only that, if they have enough damage and focus you while you heal you basically gain zero health and once your done full healing your still like 100-150 HP or lower depending when you started your heal and theirs nothing to stop them from pushing, this especially hurts because hog is an aggressive tank so have so little DR means he can’t push properly against really good dps or Ana Zen combo. So yeah unfortunately even though the rework is a W he still has issues and the numbers need some changing.

But they got rid of his right click so he cant poke from range and has to use hook, then they kept hook the exact same, added a trap that makes his one shot combo possible again (and easier if trap is there) then made his survivability better?
Roadhog now has to play around his trap that can easily be destroyed. His heal is also not as good as before in trade for more consistent poke damage. There's more strategy to Roadhog instead of mindless hooking now.

No, they never wanted to get rid of his hook combo play style and said since the beginning they were gonna keep his play style the same. They wanted to make it to where he had to do more to do it, now he has to time a trap and he still take quite a bit of skill
I feel road hog need a a 40% reduction in damage for breath orisas 45 is til better since it last longer and maybe to compensate trap damage lowered to 50 damage instead of 60. Also make it 10 seconds to fill not as much as 8 since that was the old cool down it will make his fluidic flow feel like something and the enemy gets that out ult charge quick still so if they have to make damaged lower to him or since he’s just a meat-bag that now can trap you in small spaces lol.

If only blizzard could have made doomfists new ability work with his kit. You got 2 abilities that give you movement and work with your passive then the block just makes you a sitting duck and only helps to maybe get an empowered punch
He more all around survival since he can space out breather for strong cooldowns. He just doesn’t have immortality for 4 seconds and 4 more of vulnerability which is way better bc if you got stunned or anti’d then you were useless and got melted

Hog used to be able to roll people if they lacked CC, now I can’t take as many risks even though I’m constantly able to top off. His effective HP in any given fight was closer to quadruple digits back with his damage reduction, but now you can feel the difference.
hog's a menace now...but his trap is still very dependent on how well you are able to hook and reposition your targets to put it to good use, otherwise it's really kinda useless.
It would’ve been so cool if they combined Take a Breather as a resource with OW1 1-3-2 experimental Roadhog’s TaB gas cloud (AOE damage reduction and healing). Imagine that when Roadhog uses Take a Breather, that it leaves a fairly small gas cloud around him, and as he keeps using TaB, any gas already near him would expand outward. As the duration for first gas runs out, the outer circle of the cloud would start to go away, all the way until the middle of it disappears. Roadhog could keeping walking forward while using TaB, and it would leave a trail of gas for his teammates to make use of to push in. Or he can stand more stationary while using TaB, and it would form into a thicker gas cloud for his team to use more defensively. Just think about how cool that would be, and it would solve the issue of Roadhog being a fat DPS tank hero. They would reduce TaB’s self-heal and damage reduction a bit since the gas cloud would benefit Roadhog as well, and if they insist on keeping their new Pig Pen ability, they would need to nerf its damage and slow effect.
I realized something while watching this video... the one shot is back... 60 damage pop with the trap, plus 90 over time, 160 if all your pellets hit, 35 melee, and 5 from the hook... they did it AGAIN.
I think it’s fair this time now, you have to set up AND get a successful corner kidnap to even have a shot at it. Most support can also just use their get out of free jail card now too, as well as some dps. Not to mention they can just destroy the trap and ruin your combo. I think it’s a balanced now with all the risk your taking trying to get it, as well as the fact the trap is on a 12 second cooldown, so you don’t have the same opportunity every time your hook is ready, like before. It’s honestly your fault if you’re caught out of position and manage to die to it now🤷
the whole point of hog is to be a DPS tank, he does very high damage but hes a bit of a glass cannon and gots no ways to protect himself unless he plays safe , and cant defend a full rush as easily as other tanks
Idk whether to like the trap or not. To me it doesn’t reall fit hog. I feel like some big imposing brute wouldn’t be laying down a trap but instead would take enemies head on like old hog.
Cuz it's more available whenever you need it. People have to just adapt and realize you can't take damage like that anymore. Use the natural cover to heal up and get back in the fight faster
The heal is slow but i feel like i can live much longer, went from being on massove loss streak before, now after rework i lost only 1 game out of like 10

1 sec to heal 300 vs 3 to heal 450 is honestly kinda eh. Soldier body shot melts through your heal so you literally spend 3 seconds technically doing nothing... while 300 in 1 is fast and gives you a chance to shoot back.
Hog mains crying when they have to rely on their healers to get healed now and not make as many mistakes in positioning as they always are (even though they still have their healing ability).
You mostly get killed before anti ends or right when it ends so the breather changes just make it worse. I feel like even at 40% damage reduction, it would be worse

Tried playing yesterday and faced an Ana literally 10 matches in a row. I wish they would just rework biotic grenade already.

same. ive gotten used to it but it still drives me crazy. I set the trap to m2 and vape back to E for the sake of muscle memory

Cyx do u think hog need the 50% damage reduction I think he might as trying to take space with hog is still really difficult u just cant survive on the frontline maybe he doesn’t need the 50% but it definitely needs buffed from 30%
If only blizzard could have made doomfists new ability work with his kit. You got 2 abilities that give you movement and work with your passive then the block just makes you a sitting duck and only helps to maybe get an empowered punch
Hog isn’t as survivable as before thanks to Breather losing reduction and hps, but he’s better at securing kills now because he’s less reliant on Hook
He more all around survival since he can space out breather for strong cooldowns. He just doesn’t have immortality for 4 seconds and 4 more of vulnerability which is way better bc if you got stunned or anti’d then you were useless and got melted
@@justanotherasian8908 at the same time, it made him more competant at actually tanking damage than it does now. Hog used to be able to roll people if they lacked CC, now I can’t take as many risks even though I’m constantly able to top off. His effective HP in any given fight was closer to quadruple digits back with his damage reduction, but now you can feel the difference.
hog's a menace now...but his trap is still very dependent on how well you are able to hook and reposition your targets to put it to good use, otherwise it's really kinda useless.

Why do you move your hooked target one way, then the other?
It would’ve been so cool if they combined Take a Breather as a resource with OW1 1-3-2 experimental Roadhog’s TaB gas cloud (AOE damage reduction and healing).
Imagine that when Roadhog uses Take a Breather, that it leaves a fairly small gas cloud around him, and as he keeps using TaB, any gas already near him would expand outward. As the duration for first gas runs out, the outer circle of the cloud would start to go away, all the way until the middle of it disappears.
Roadhog could keeping walking forward while using TaB, and it would leave a trail of gas for his teammates to make use of to push in. Or he can stand more stationary while using TaB, and it would form into a thicker gas cloud for his team to use more defensively.
Just think about how cool that would be, and it would solve the issue of Roadhog being a fat DPS tank hero. They would reduce TaB’s self-heal and damage reduction a bit since the gas cloud would benefit Roadhog as well, and if they insist on keeping their new Pig Pen ability, they would need to nerf its damage and slow effect.

I realized something while watching this video... the one shot is back... 60 damage pop with the trap, plus 90 over time, 160 if all your pellets hit, 35 melee, and 5 from the hook... they did it AGAIN.
I think it’s fair this time now, you have to set up AND get a successful corner kidnap to even have a shot at it. Most support can also just use their get out of free jail card now too, as well as some dps. Not to mention they can just destroy the trap and ruin your combo. I think it’s a balanced now with all the risk your taking trying to get it, as well as the fact the trap is on a 12 second cooldown, so you don’t have the same opportunity every time your hook is ready, like before. It’s honestly your fault if you’re caught out of position and manage to die to it now🤷
cyx was one shotting all 250 and under targets before the rework lol
the whole point of hog is to be a DPS tank, he does very high damage but hes a bit of a glass cannon and gots no ways to protect himself unless he plays safe , and cant defend a full rush as easily as other tanks

Idk whether to like the trap or not. To me it doesn’t reall fit hog. I feel like some big imposing brute wouldn’t be laying down a trap but instead would take enemies head on like old hog.

Cuz it's more available whenever you need it. People have to just adapt and realize you can't take damage like that anymore. Use the natural cover to heal up and get back in the fight faster

i wouldn't say hes broken, hes meant to be a DPS tank, hes a bit of a glass cannon, very high damage but very little protection, your forced to use smart positioning or your gunna get melted

1 sec to heal 300 vs 3 to heal 450 is honestly kinda eh. Soldier body shot melts through your heal so you literally spend 3 seconds technically doing nothing... while 300 in 1 is fast and gives you a chance to shoot back.
