Henry, I like the end of this video. Explaining more of your strategy and thought process, alternatives that can be tried, etc - good stuff! Keep doing that plz 👍🏻
It's awesome watching someone that has access to all these mons. Thank you for your insight and entertainment. I'm trying to get over the Ace milestone. You've helped me get this far sir! So thank you, again
I really enjoy how analytical you are in recognizing potential strats for victory, and also where you in fact have misplayed. It's so helpful in allowing battlers gain insight as to win conditions and improve their game.
7:25 You didn't get robbed of the new game mechanic. By my counts, the game functioned as intended because you hit 0HP on the same turn you tried firing your charge move. Damage registering gets higher priority than charge moves, so you need to have at least 1HP on the final turn of their fast move to fire a charge move. Here are the turn events in order, starting immediately after the Amphoros shield: Turn 1: Amphoros switches, Spark starts Turn 2: Spark damage registers, Icicle Spear starts Turn 3: Icicle Spear damage registers, Spark starts Turn 4: Spark damage registers, Icicle Spear starts Turn 5: Icicle Spear damage registers causing a faint, which takes priority over your charge move from firing
I respectfully disagree. It looks like three PS KO's which should not be the case. Walrein comes in which should take one turn (first failure of the game mechanics) but it looks like they got a 0 turn swap. Then Henry is two sparks off of WC but the damage registers three PS before he throws which is in fake new mechanic failure. I believe you "turn 5" is the exact opposite of what new mechanic intends to be.
@@MemoryRise There are only 2 Powder Snow's (as indicated by the puffy cloud animation). The damage that registers immediately after the shield is the previous Volt Switch because Henry threw in between fast moves, so the damage registers after the charge move. So, on Turn 1 the full event list is: Volt Switch damage registers, Luxray defense harshly falls, Amphoros switches, Spark starts I omitted the first two items in my first post just to focus on the Walrein mechanics. They aren't relevant to the Powder Snow timings.
Fascinating. Thanks the these details. The game mechanics are very detailed and evolving. Good to spend more time on it for sure. This is what makes the game so fun and playable for sure.
@@yogo540 I see what you mean about the volt switch damage and that there are only two powder snows. The animation was not easy for me to follow. However, with new mechanic, Henry should have been able to get off the charge move as he was two sparks away and switching into walrein should take a turn. Either new mechanic did not come through or opponent got a zero turn switch. That's how I conceptualize it anyways.
I used this strategy recently when GL was recently available with Cradily, S. Swampert, S. Zard (usually my sweeper, but not always). It's pretty weak to Medi and Dragon leads, but I still liked using it
As a 27 year old veteran Pokémon battler, In all my battles and few tournaments i went to, I always run full team sweepers. Not gonna lie, I tweaked the strategies a little bit but I never ran no tanks only sweepers and I have beaten incredible teams across my journey.
@Tylar122 I have gone to several local ones on the eastcoast like BOS and NY. Hosted by like conventions back then around 2008-2012. I also did go to a national Championship in Indiana. That was big. If I remember correctly that was like... 2015...? I'm thinking 2014 maybe.
Loving the roles he made for the team. Tank and Double DPS is very frightening especially if your lead wins alot of neutral matchups like Umbreon. Just the insane amount of bulk and while being able to compete against other tanks and also having access to Psychic to surprise Fighting types like Virizion as where they shielded the second one. I honestly agree with the 2 Tanks + 1 DPS lineup like the video HSL made in the GL with Registeel + Medicham + Charizard. They just do their job by absorbing all the energy while being able to dishout and deal with many pokemons you dont want your backline to see. Great video HSL keep up the work! Should definitely do a Double Tank + DPS without the Charizard as a showcase to spotlight another pokemon.
So, I feel like I need to report on this: I’ve never been prominent with the Ultra League. But as of two weeks ago (I know, quite the while) , I’ve been running Nite on lead, Melmetal on safe and the Gengar in closing; mostly with 2 shields! I’ve been getting over on many trainers while also climbing! More importantly, this upload is fantastic. All of my fav mons eating!!!!!!!!
This team is Cool Similarly iam using Shadow swampert in the lead with 97iv shadow weavile with avalanche and Focus blast and Charizard in the back and honestly Shadow weavile one shots almost every flying type and ground type even a Focus blast deals over 90% heath of an umbreon and that is nuts , you should try it only concern for my team is tapufini or else 70% winrate climbed over 500 elo in past week you should try it once❤
@@Lucky69K Was it worth it? Nerf every grass type because Trev. It actually helped keep Medicham and Swampert in line. And Exeggutor could too but it's not XL or legendary so Niantic can't milk it.
'two sweepers and a tank' has actually almost always been my go-to way to play (if not just three sweepers when i'm bored lol), and probably also why i hate playing this game sometimes. bulky mons with spammy charge moves are the most boring and braindead shit ever and practically everyone runs three of them
If you feel like playing some more shadow Luxray try Shadow Luxray lead with Sneasler and Cobalion in back. I played this team for Celestial Field in factions and loved it so much it’s the only UL team I play anymore.
@@boltcarrier_ 100%. The only ground I see that’s really a problem is Swampert. Gfisk is manageable and I haven’t seen many Nidoqueen. For me it’s crazy fun to play and I typically go positive but not by much.
This is a prime example of why I am so bored with Ultra League this season. Blast Burn / Wing Attack is on almost every team. It's just like you said Henry there's not much that can fight it, especially with 2 shields and preserving a 2 shield charizard is the strategy of the season. Why they did not nerf wing attack or blast burn this season is beyond me
Lol this is how I always play. Pure attack, energy. Just like how I play MTG - Red Deck Wins. Straight fast attacking and don’t give the opponent a break.
I ran into one yesterday and it confused me so hard, prob lost the game because of the surprise aspect/slow reaction and shielding a psychic fangs. xD (while I had Guzzlord in the back)
@@ayaankazi8308 Its my 2nd season of taking pvp seriously, am a climbing noob. But moments like these are tough learning moments, haha! Goodluck with your Lux, bait them!
The prioritization of the charged moves over fast move dmg is so stupid. Why would they implement something they can’t even make work. Small indie company I guess

Man I'm so glad Robin Black found a new martial art to analyze. He's so good at it!
Just slap a Registeel in the front, a Cresselia in the middle and an orbital cannon in the back and you're Good to go.

My ultra league comp has almost always been venasuar lead with a rock and luxaray closer.😅 wish i had a shadow one....
When the strategy was explained, my mind went directly to a Honchkrow since I dont have a Luxray.
Honchkrow with shields down is illegal man 🥲
Honchkrow is the best closer; especially when you have a shield advantage
@@nickstjohn3922 Try shadow weavile with avalanche and focus blast, you wouldn't disappoint , as a closer and sheilds.
trying Xerneas and Yveltal with Geomancy and Oblivion Wing with Excadrill in Ultra League
I have 2 best buddy hundo umbreon - but only ~300 xls one has psychic and one has last resort - which should i power up first?
Last resort
I’ve been doing this 😂 I use walrien as my Umbreon
Maybe my two glass commons could be double ghost with my rank 1 Shiny Cofagrigus and Gengar. That could be fun with a Walrein on the lead.
