Hi Madeleine, I just wanted to thank you for such a great video. I was planning to do this, but at the last minute chickened out and booked a tour. BIG mistake... I couldn't enjoy Stonehenge as I wanted. I'm planning to go back and now that I feel comfortable using trains and public transportation, I'll follow your advice.
Hi Madeleine Glad you enjoyed your visit to Stonehenge. I've not been since the new visitor centre opened, so I was wondering whether one is still able to walk around the countryside around? There are several ancient burial mounds around the area, built much later than the stone circle, but shows that Stonehenge retained its aura of spirituality and importance. If you like prehistoric sites then try Avebury stone circle and henge. The henge (the ditch) surrounds the small village of Avebury, with the remains of the stone circle at the centre of the village. And one can wander around and touch the stones. There's also a standing stone avenue, Silbury Hill (a manmade hill) and West Kennet Long Barrow nearby. Oh, and a haunted pub at Avebury, too! Definitely worth a visit if you like that kind of thing and want to explore what was an important prehistoric ceremonial landscape. Oh, and Uffington White Horse and Wayland's Smithy aren't that far away and also worth a visit.
Hi Adrian thank you for your comment! You are able to access the the area for free as there are public footpaths throughout the site. I found that there’s free parking at Woodhenge then you can take the footpaths around from there. I’m not sure about the main car park though.Hope that helps! I’m hoping to go back and see the areas I missed on my first visit. 😊
A couple of other places worth visiting near Stonehenge are Old Sarum,, which is the original site of Salisbury cathedral and is now ruins and ramparts and also Avebury which has a much bigger stone circle than Stonehenge as well as other neolithic monuments. Both are best to visit on a warm spring or summer day when it's not mud everywhere.
I was hoping to visit Avebury that day but ran out of daylight. Thanks for letting me know about Old Sarum too. Will be back to check out those sites soon.

I think you would like Bath. Apart from the Roman Baths which are amazing there’s lots of things to see.
Hoping to get around to Bath too, There is a place i'm looking forward to checking out...when it's available to book 😊
