I think he got decent recognition during his career, but later in life and posthumously he's been somewhat cancelled, "because of his sympathies towards the actions of the Nazi party in the early 1930s and over his willingness to work for the occupying German regime during the early 1940s. Since the early 1990s however, his works have seen something of a revival, being seen for their own artistic merit"

In my opinioçn,Florent Schmitt is underrated. His writing is usually rather energetic and roborative; but quite subtle, , with great harmonic and instrumental successful research . Here, he uses a more mellow and conservative style, as the title itsalf suggests it. Perhaps he wished to demanstate the flexibility of his genuis. The hypothesis of neoclassical Stravisnki's indluence should not be discarded toço. Anyway, this score is perfectly well written and quite interesting to be hyerad.
