What's disappointing is that the American/European version has 12 Sega CD games and the Japanese version has 20. I haven't seen anyone else point that out. I understand that this mini will be more costly and that they're focusing on the Japanese market but they put a lot of effort into making a specific cartridge lineup for the different regions. They should've left out the English version of Ecco the Dolphin 1 CD since it was already on the first mini and replaced it with Earhworm Jim 2 CD, and replace the cartridge version of Earthworm Jim 2 with something else. I'm pretty sure they could've gotten the English versions of Lunar and Popful Mail if they spent more money. @@sigmartmsr1141 Well... from what I recently heard, the guy who originally did the translations owns the rights to them now, and supposedly Sega actually approached him about including the games in this collection & offered him the standard licensing fee they normally do, but he turned it down. It's not like this is going to somehow reduce the possibility of him making more off the licenses in the future.
WD copyrighted most of the English translations that it did back in the day, & Victor Ireland (the man in charge) continues to own those translations to this day. Apparently Vic was approached by Sega to license WD's Lunar & Popful Mail translations, but he declined because he felt that the flat licensing fee Sega of Japan was offering wasn't good enough, despite Game Arts & Falcom (i.e. the companies that actually own those games) were fine with it. And of course, regarding Sonic CD, while I hold Nothing against the US soundtrack ("Sonic Boom" for the Win), we do have to give Chirstian Whitehead our thanks for giving us the Option to choose between the US and Japanese soundtrack. Which, of course, is still possible via the Sonic Origins Complilation!
Kind of a bummer that we missed out on the Lunar games and Popful Mail. Honestly, those and Robo Aleste were the main reasons I wanted this thing. Now I'm kind of considering dropping my pre-order.
I canceled mine, price increase, buying from JP Amazon only and $120 which is $40 over the previous one, AND arguably a worse selection of games for a higher asking price than Japan customers. It's clear they don't value American dollars.
Worth it just for the shooters, Warsong, Splatter house, Night Trap, Ranger X, Crusader of Century, Shining Force Cd, and Outrun. All of these in one package is amazing and just buying one of those carts would be more than half the price or more than the full price of this mini console.
Spencer Nilsen. The man, the myth, the legend. Ecco/Tides Of Time are among the pinnacle of redbook audio for a video game and may be my favorite game soundtracks of all time. Sega CD was pushing boundaries when it came to game music, and I feel like it's all downhill ever since.

I'm disappointed it doesn't have Popful Mail/Lunar, even though I have Popful Mail, and the PS1 versions of Lunar I also dislike that you wouldn't let people in Canada order, so I had to go through a proxy that'll add $50 Is that the Genesis version of Virtua Racer or the 32X one?
Aww man, what a missed opportunity to have included MUSHA, especially since the Mega Drive Mini got it, but the Genesis Mini didn't. It would have complemented Robo Aleste nicely. Sega omitted niche games like Lunar for far more popular titles like Night Trap.
And again, you failed to put Snatcher. Awesome.
Solid lineup, for sure. Ignoring games that were on the first release, Eternal Champions, Cyborg Justice, Beyond Oasis, Lunar, Wonder Boy, Flashback, TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Popful Mail, Pulseman, and Jungle Strike would have been sick. Still, I'm probably picking one up for what is included. Also, do a Dreamcast Mini, Sega. People would pay $200 for it.
I'd easily pay $200 for a well done Dreamcast mini. Add a wireless controller option from Retrobit and I'm in heaven.
As long as none of the shenmues are on it, I would buy one
@@CinosTheHedgehog2000 One would definitely be on it, I'm sure. I never played through those games but I couldn't imagine them not putting their own IP on the mini.
Clayfighters, Puyo Puyo, Silpheed and Sewer Shatk are not solid. Sorry. I can name at least 10 games per each choice that are superior. Nice try though.
@@tubinonyou oh like...eternal champions Sega CD they didn't put on this 😆
The overall lineup is full of head-scratchers, but Warsong, Shining Force CD, and Crusader of Centy go a long way in making this a compelling product.
I don't know about Warsong but I can definitely vouch for the other two you mentioned.
@@megamix5403 Warsong is Langrisser. Langrisser is a classic.
Lunar & Popful Mail would have instantly sold many of these. I still cannot believe we are not getting them while the Japanese version is. It makes ZERO sense.
@@skins4thewin The two Lunars are the big, elusive titles I think nearly everyone was hoping for. It's very disappointing they aren't on here.
Agreed.
Holy Crap! I was not Expecting Puyo Puyo Sun to finally be Released outside of Japan!
That's Amazing!
Definitely a solid list of amazing games. It's just missing Mercs, Snow Bros, Joe and Mac Cave Ninja; Pulse Man, musha and Disney games like quack shot.
Logan Ford I agree with you as a kid back I always wished for Snow Bros to come the Mega Drive / Genesis but it never did it only stayed in Japan which was a shame and the rest of the other games are great especially Pusle Man
Those will be on the mini 3.
ITS NOT FAIR I WANT ONE BUT IT'S NOT AVALIABLE IN MY COUNTRY 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Nice to see Warsong on there!
Yep rented that every weekend .
The game list is just amazing! Can't wait to pick this one up.
Same dude, also just watched you for the first time the other day that's crazy
It's missing some great games that had US releases and are on the Mega Drive Mini 2... like Lunar. And Snatcher. While it has some great games on it, the losses are extreme disappointments to me.
Amazing is a strong/exaggerated word to use in this case...
No Lunar or Popful Mail is an absolute dealbreaker for me. These games should have been hard required. Why on EARTH would the Japanese version get these but we don't? They may not have sold well initially but now they are true classics by every sense of the word.
maybe it had something to do with working design
@@sigmartmsr1141 Well... from what I recently heard, the guy who originally did the translations owns the rights to them now, and supposedly Sega actually approached him about including the games in this collection & offered him the standard licensing fee they normally do, but he turned it down.
Seems pretty stupid if you ask me, he should be taking whatever he can get considering these games aren't even being sold anymore. It's not like this is going to somehow reduce the possibility of him making more off the licenses in the future.
@@skins4thewin at this point i think it's more possible for these games to get a limited run rerelease then a mini console.
@@sigmartmsr1141 Oh man... Ppl would go crazy if they did that for Popful Mail!
@@skins4thewin We and MK Games crossed paths with Mr. Ireland in 2016 on Assembler Games. We're honestly not surprised.
Where are the 2 lunar games for sera cd?
Having Final Fight CD and it's God-tier soundtrack is worth the price of admission alone!
Wonder if FF CD is going to be censored? Hopefully, they will have the option to play the Japanese version.
Missing all of the Working Designs translation games is definitely a kick to the gut. Why can’t we get Lunar on a mini or modern console.
Maybe ask Working Designs directly?
@@alexchan661 Yeah, good point.
Yes, Vic Ireland literally thought that his old WD translations were worth more than the games themselves. That's ridiculously greedy.
This is all about money. I would have like both Lunar games on the Sega Genesis mini but this is still a great selection of games.
@@Obscusion2 I wish we could get some rereleases that aren't tainted by WD's unnecessary 'fixes.' I'll never forgive what they did to Silhouette Mirage.
This is a very interesting match up! It's a bit of a shame that we didn't get Snatcher. Maybe it was too bloody or Sega couldn't get the rights to it.
Its from konami plus one of the characters is metal gear
Konami. They don't want to pay for its Localization.
@@segaunited3855 it's already been localized.

Pretty decent lineup all things considered but the Sega CD selection leaves a lot to be desired with 2 Ecco games, Night Trap, and Sewer Shark but no Snatcher, Lunar, or Popful Mail.
IKR
And of course, regarding Sonic CD, while I hold Nothing against the US soundtrack ("Sonic Boom" for the Win), we do have to give Chirstian Whitehead our thanks for giving us the Option to choose between the US and Japanese soundtrack. Which, of course, is still possible via the Sonic Origins Complilation!
Amen or eternal champion CD owned by ..sega
Sega included the games that were by far the most popular back in the day in place of niche games that you listed.
Kind of a bummer that we missed out on the Lunar games and Popful Mail. Honestly, those and Robo Aleste were the main reasons I wanted this thing. Now I'm kind of considering dropping my pre-order.
Do it. The wallet speaks. I don’t need sonic for the 30th time
I canceled mine, price increase, buying from JP Amazon only and $120 which is $40 over the previous one, AND arguably a worse selection of games for a higher asking price than Japan customers. It's clear they don't value American dollars.
You know what else they don't value America's most successful fighting game franchise Mortal Kombat
I cancelled mine
No Lunar, Lunar 2, Popful Mail or Snatcher is very disappointing.
But the rest of the line-up looks good.
apperintly japanese fans are complaning about not geting shining force 2 and bare knuckle 3
Worth it just for the shooters, Warsong, Splatter house, Night Trap, Ranger X, Crusader of Century, Shining Force Cd, and Outrun. All of these in one package is amazing and just buying one of those carts would be more than half the price or more than the full price of this mini console.
Where's the Lunar games?!! Lunar 1 and 2 are some of the best rpgs games on the Sega CD, so why aren't they on this system?!!! Come on Sega!!!!!!!
The soundtrack for the sega cd version of Ecco the Dolphin is incredible. Glad it's in there. Everyone should listen
Isn't just ambient 😴 music?
@@rustymixer2886 I suppose you could roughly classify it as new age if pressed. Not sure I'd classify it as ambient, as many tracks are layered compositions.
@@UToobin75 but it's more of a eerie 😴 sound...but ok ..whatever it is this game shouldn't be on here and eternal champion CD should took it's place
@@rustymixer2886 Some tracks are eerie, particularly when you venture into the later levels, but most I find calming and soothing.
I'd argue that the Ecco titles contain far more depth and playtime than a one-on-one fighter, but there was room for both on this unit. I would've preferred EVERY title had been Sega CD games, as we've had enough cartridge based Genesis compilations, most of which have been previously made available countless times over.
Still not available in Canada eh? Is there anything that can be done about that?
I remember playing *Streets of Rage 3* back in the day! What a time.
No Lunar?? I can't believe that. Now the Sega Mini is like a super model with a missing tooth!
You missed a few such as:Phelios,Golden Axe 3,Rocket Knight Adventures,Tales Of Dinosaurs,Columns 3,Contra Hard Corps etc.
I think Contra Hard Corps was in the first Genesis Mini
Placed my order for the mega drive mini 2 last month. The Lunar games alone clinched the deal, but was also delighted to see the addition of new quiz game question sets. There are some tempting titles exclusive to the Genesis Mini 2 as well (Herzog Zwei, Super Hang-On, Outrunners, Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage 3, Puyo Puyo Sun).

Nice job guys. Was scared you weren’t going to have any FMV games, but you came though with a couple.
Some of the TH-cam commentators consider those games trash but they sold the best back in the day.
I assume it must be some sort of copyright thing but no Lunar games, no Snatcher, Popful Mail. I mean the CD unit didn’t have a massive amount of quality games, compared to carts, but leaving off so many of its highlights makes the package meh.
Rerelease the OG Sega Mini, I’ll be passing on this one
Yup they lost alot sales cuz no snatcher
That’s what I appreciated about the TurboGrafx-16 Mini, they really mixed it up. Sure there were a solid 6-8 games they could have chose but they really went for a nice cross section of titles. I think even more complete than Sega managed in 2 mini consoles
@@waylonoconner9121 indeed they put Castlevania snatcher lord thunder etc so many good titles
Must buy for Outrun and Outrunners alone. When will pre-orders be opened for Canada?
Why can't it be shipped to Canada?! You are stating North America but it can't be shipped through Amazon Japan here. Doesn't make sense since I order from Amazon Japan regularly to Canada. Please explain.
Was hoping for a few more surprises, like: Zero Wing, Target Earth, Out of this World, Alien Storm, Flashback, MUSHA or Rocket Knight Adventures. Would loved to have seen a few big licensed titles, like: QuackShot, Adventures of Batman and Robin, TMNT Hyperstone Heist, NBA Jam TE, NHL '94, Madden '94, Cool Spot, Ghostbusters, Aladdin, Lion King or Moonwalker. Also, a few 32X games would have been awesome.

Great lineup, but where's Popful Mail?
Ask Victor Ireland (the CEO of Working Designs)
OMG Crusader of Centy! No need to find a decent copy on eBay!
The lack of the Lunar games as well as Popful mail is a HUGE drawback after seeing the Japanese version get them. Passing this one
Probably licensing for the audio localization I was hoping we got those also since I have never played those but we still get a solid 60 games most of which I don’t have in my collection definitely still worth it
no popful mail or both lunar games. why
Many games which I wanted to see are missing but Crusader of Centy was the biggest one that I was holding out for so I'm relieved it's on here. Too bad I'm in Canada and can't currently order this without spending way too much on a U.S. address proxy remailing service since the listing on Amazon USA won't ship direct to Canada. It would be nice if we got a non-reseller listing for the Genesis Mini 2 on Amazon Canada.
I'm disappointed it doesn't have Popful Mail/Lunar, even though I have Popful Mail, and the PS1 versions of Lunar
I also dislike that you wouldn't let people in Canada order, so I had to go through a proxy that'll add $50
Is that the Genesis version of Virtua Racer or the 32X one?
Hello, I was wondering why this item cannot ship to Canada?
Ohhh Canadaaa ... how i shiiip this plaaace
Pretty solid line up, but no Lunar or Popful Mail makes it seem like a missed opportunity…
Why does the pre-order link for “North America” exclude delivery to every country but the US?
Will this be available in Canada? It was billed as a North American release but it only seems to be being sold in the USA.
That's why it's called North America not North Canada
Aww man, what a missed opportunity to have included MUSHA, especially since the Mega Drive Mini got it, but the Genesis Mini didn't. It would have complemented Robo Aleste nicely. How could the game that is arguably one of the most desired in the Genesis retro community (here in the US, anyway) not included?
It doesn't matter this game is not in it, just as long sega put what kind of games they have.
With all due respect, removing Popful Mail on the US version has frankly made this go from a must buy to a forget about it. Removing the most rare and and expensive to buy games on the US version when they were the best reasons to get it for a massive collector like myself who has all the low hanging fruit already.. Can't really justify a purchase.
Popful Mail and the Lunar games. Those would have sold the system by themselves for me.
@@drg5352 It makes me feel guilty to say that the Lunar games weren't as important to me since I still have my ancient ps1 copies ... But I understand your pain. Those games were great.
I am not kidding, I am buying this for the first home release of Super Locomotive.
Im kinda mad that sonic 3 & knuckles still didn’t get a release for this is it that hard just to change the music back to the prototype music
Sonic origins is probably the most people are getting for sonic 3 and knuckles right now
I'm guessing Sega couldn't come to an agreement with Working Designs/Gaijin Works to use their translations.
And couldn’t be bothered to do their own
@@theycallmejpj I don't think Sega can. I believe Working Designs had the exclusive rights to Lunar on the Sega CD and PlayStation in the US. They also had first right of refusals on the Lunar series in the US.
Mr Ireland and SEGA had a Falling Out back in 1998. And he NEVER got over it.
6:06 This alone makes me wanna buy it

Wow they really messed up on the Sega CD options. Please release a compilation for modern consoles. We’d love to play lunar/working design published titles as well as of course stature. If you are worried about losing money snatcher and lunar will guarantee you at the very least break even. It doesn’t matter though, it’s done. Pre order it from Amazon Japan and if you have a friend in the U.S. let them ship it to their address and then they ship it to Canada eh!
When I was a kid I walked into a game store and saw afterburner playing on a display. I was absolutely blown away by the visuals at the time. Nothing even came close on the Atari or NES which were the two consoles I had played.
That’s uh…unfortunate you’ve removed lunar from the US line up, crossing my fingers that like the OG genesis mini it’s cross region tho, still won me over with the bonus games
Will this have the feature to play the games of other regions like the Genesis Mini 1?
The reason why the Sega CD Ok lunar games are not included has something to do with Working Designs/Gaijin Works. A financial agreement could not be agreed to. The Lunar games for the GBA, PSP, & Nintendo DS were translated & released by other companies. Still ga!rs such as Final Fight CD, Super Street Fighter II, & Night Trap might be with an Amazon Pre-order.

Godly lineup. I loved the first one but this one is going to be 10 times better!
The Genesis/EU Mega Drive has 12 Sega CD games while the Japanese Mega Drive has 20 Mega CD games.

Yes! Solid list! Finally, Final Fight CD and Robo Aleste announced for USA! SOR3, Elemental Master, Rolling Thunder 2, EJ2, Shadow Dancer, Puyo Sun, Space Harrier II, too! Shining Force CD looks interesting, too! Would have liked Snow Bros. and Lunar, but I understand not all titles can make it. I'm happy these ones did! Thanks, Sega!
I am also excited to see The Revenge of Shinobi AND Shadow Dancer on the same compilation. IMO this lineup is more solid than the Japan lineup. It is more arcade-ish.
I love me some Revenge Of Shinobi, but any current or future release is bound to be one of many copyright revisions, omitting character likenesses. This is why I'll always hold onto my original Genesis copy.
I probably won't be getting this, but I wonder if there's any chance of a Steam release for Shining Force CD?
Hate to be that guy but: No snatcher?
Popful mail?

Mercs, Steel Empire, Jungle Strike, Twin Cobra missing. I'm sure licensing is a big issue, no way we will ever see any of the Disney/WB games (Buggs Bunny Double Dash, Lion King, Aladdin, Tasmanian Devil games, Road Runner, etc...). Good childhood.
Good list but no Lunar, no Popful Mail is dissapointing
0:17 Suddenly I’m reminded of Classic Game Room
I will be brutally honest here. No doubt that the Genesis line up is awesome but the game list of the Sega CD here really leaves a lot to be desired. Sewer Shark? Come on! I would trade that one for Prize Fighter or Tomcat Alley.
