Efficiency of a kettle - GCSE Physics

In this video we look at energy efficiency, and discover the efficiency of my kettle by experiment! Try it at home (just be careful of hot water)!

Under the same conditions using the kettle switched on and off for 10 seconds each till the kettle boils. This would use the residual heat from the element to heat the water and consume less electricity. Admittedly it would take twice as long to boil but would lead to a very efficient kettle being manufactured.
