I got two referrals for Pacific Financial and went with them as my first bond provider. Bond Girls quote was much cheaper - half the premium. May go with them next renewal. Yes, you are right Brandon, no carrier has ever asked about my bond. So, be the wiser and shop around. Great advise for new brokers.
Hi Shelia, is the Surety Bond Girls a company based out of Georgia? I would like to give them a try since you mentioned they gave you a cheaper quote. I was also referred to Pacific Financial, but I'm shopping around for a better quote.
I have been talking with Gabrielle Liberatore from JW Surety Bonds she has been very helpful in answering my questions as well as seeing if the cost for the surety bond has gotten lower for us (she has ran my credit more than one to see if we can get the best deal possible)
Thank you, I've been trying to understand what exactly a surety bond is & you explained it perfectly. I was so intimidated, you made me feel soooo much better. Thank you!!
Some great info here Scott. I would like to add that if there is a legit claim on your surety bond you are responsible for paying that back. This is in the indemnity agreement that you will sign when you purchase the bond. Rates have come down a bit from this video (2018) and great personal credit will run you around $950/year for the bond.
Don't know if you'd still reply. My owner's credit is 600-700. The bond is coming upto be $5600. Can we break it down quarterly? Please suggest some companies that offer payment plans.
I am about to start my freight broker business. How much money should I have in my account since getting payment from the shippers lags the work done the truckers? In other words, how long is the normal wait after completing the first shipment?
is surety bond the only insurance we need? and does it only cover when not getting paid. or are we responsible when they wreck as well. do they take care of that end with their insurance.
Surety bond is to ensure freight brokers pay carriers. Contingent cargo insurance is not required by FMCSA for freight brokers but many shippers require it...it covers freight in the event freight is damaged in transit..study the carmack amendment to.learn about liability as it pertains to cargo...
Hi. Would you tell me do I need surety bond for my state only or must be for All states for running as a broker? And for the question- Are you applying as individual or Business Entity (Including DBA) what should be my answer? Thank you!
the surety bond is required for all brokerages without regard to state...your answer to the question will depend on how you're applying....if you have a business entity like an LLC established you may want to apply as a business...hope this helps. thank you.
Why is my insurance agent telling me, they won't issue me a bond if any information matches my Trucking authority? As if carriers can't be Freight brokers ..
Im sure youve figured this out by now. What did you have to do since you had a trucking company? Ive heard of a dual authority if youre a carrier and a brokerage but not much more out there on how to go about that if it really is possible.
Hi Brandon, I’m in the process of finishing up my personal financial statement so we can get a quote for a surety bond. It’s so confusing, and it’s taking me quite a long time. Would you have any tips or information where I can go to make this easier? Also, when you say, look for different quotes, won’t that lower my credit score if multiple insurances are looking me up? Thanks!
No, you pay so much a year depending on your credit. His instance he didn’t negotiate and he paid 3k a YEAR. He broke it up quarterly. This means he paid 750 every 3 months. It’s just like insurance. You might have a 50k car insurance but you only pay x amount a month. Hope this helps!
I've tried to distinguish the difference between 84 and 85 forms , but got my brain twisted..All those posts and articles on the web are not much useful..If you have a minute, could you text me please?I really appreciate that.
Profitability will be determined by the business owner....much less overhead as compared to trucking so the potential to earn huge profit is there...just depends if the business owner is willing to put in the hard work....hope this helps and wish you the best....
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to learn about freight broker training manual try Dalz Freight Discovery (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my partner got excellent results with it.

Any way laws can make it that if you are a carrier and want to become a broker - you should be exempt from the bond?
As long as your carrier business stays active - of course!
Very informative! Was the $3,000 due upfront?
Thank you for all the information sir.. Does anyone know if there is a downpayment for these bonds?
sometimes...depending on the applicant's credit...good credit...no down payment...
Does surety bonds help you build credit as well?
Suretybonds.com is asking $5625! It’s discouraging because they want it all at once. What’s the best companies that accept quarterly payments
