I only heard the name OKARA. My grandfather Lt. S. Ishar Singh ji, and maternal grandfather Lt. S. Dr. Gopal Singh ji. were from this town, district Montgomery. They used to live in B block (new Okara) and old Okara respectively. Other relatives were from Garh Fateh shah, Sialkot, Sargodha, Rawal Pindi, Gujranwala, and many more places. My father recalls some locations such as Galla mandi, company bagh, ladies bagh, etc.

I would like to share some details of Okara which I heard from my elders. 1)There were 4 blacks namely A, B, C, D. The GALLA MANDI was adjacent to block A and B. 2)There was a school called MB Primary School (Municipal Board School), whose headmaster was Master Daulat Ram, His son name was Sh. Ishwar Chandra, who was an IAS officer. 3)There was another teacher Master Noor Deen and of course my grandfather S. Ishar Singh was an Urdu teacher of that school. 4)There used to be a bank called United Commercial Bank in block C. SInderJeet Singh (CEO of Punjab and Sind Bank (India)worked there as a manager. 5) Bhai Dyal Singh was a Municipal Committee member. 6) There was a famous sweet shop vendor Bhagat Ram Halwai near Galla Mandi. 7) There was a doctor S. Sardar Singh whose clinic was on Hospital Road. 8) My uncle (tau ji) S. Ajit Singh born in 1929 had local friends namely Sh. Kurshid Ali, Sh. Sakhawat Ali. and Sh. Gulam Nabi. 9) There was a cotton mill called Birla cotton mill. 10) There was a college named Kapoor College of Commerce at Railway Road Lahore.
