Completely Refreshing/ Bulletproofing my E46 M3's New S54 | Is the Cheap S54 Any Good?

- It today's very long episode we fully refresh and bulletproof the E46 M3's brand new S54 that I bought for a great price up in Wisconsin. We tackle the Rod bearings, complete Vanos job, seals, and more. By the end of this video it will have gone from a bare block to a fully dressed, ready for install S54B32. This was a fun project and learning experience for sure!

Refreshing is a good title... Bullet proofing in my book is upgrading with processes such as Cryogenics, DLC thermal coatings and barriers etc..
You are right, however I was looking to not spend more than the car was worth on the repairs

I had an issue on my M3 with the cam gear bolts shearing on the intake side and having to get a new head so yea its real.

I think the fuss with the gears is that the bolts would back out and then the tabs would come out
Yes but none of the bolts were loose! Haha
Ich hätte den Zylinderkopf demontiert um die Zylinderkopfdichtung zu prüfen um sie gegebenen falls zu ersetzen,eine weitere Schwachstelle beim S54.Eventuell dann noch die Zylinderkopfschrauben ersetzt durch Stehbolzen von ARP.Tellerscheiben hinter den Zahnrädern könnte man noch ersetzen,die vom S62 passen und sind etwas stärker.
