Fun times :) Can we just all take a minute and realize... thank goodness there was no social media around at the time. Thankfully Camera Chris was the only person who got any shots of us all mashed up grinding our teeth with our eye's a little too wide open :) Can you imagine if there had been Instagram in those days? Shutter.
My name is Mykee, or back then Shy Mike. I live in Victoria and still throw raves to this day, but I definitely remember partying in Vancouver so many weekends at this exact era.. Subconscious 2, Pop n Fresh, Massive, ?Rest and so many more Richmond Riverside parties.. Hunny in Mission, Twisted and Doh Boy outdoor parties in tents, and of course Apex Project.. Went to the very first one, then the 2nd.. Then ended up doing a stage at the next 3! Thanks for the memories.. I could go on forever!
Holy fuckin' nostaligia...I was at so many of those parties...it's like reliving them through this video. Thank you for taking me back. I wish I could go back...so much PLUR!!!
Man that was awesome ❤. I am sure I went to at least 50% of those parties. It brings back so many memories. Thanks for sharing all your pictures and party flyers. Eternal Empire had a party on my birthday at the Plaza of Nations and I still have the flyer with a happy birthday to me on it 🎉🎉. Thank you for the throw back to my past. Love it ❤❤❤
Wow memories! I was one of the original Team Hardcore kids. My friends & I started it on Vancouver Island back in 96-97. We were a dedicated kru of rave kids. Went to every party just about. Brought mega vibes and plurness. I still have many of the flyers and stubs that are shown in this vid. Was a special time in West COast rave history. Cheers for the memories :)
this brings back memories fo sho! i was 95-2000 then moved out of van. i really felt 95-98 was best 99-2000 already seemed like things were changing, have lost some friends from then since then, rip to all the old ravers who have passed!
That was awesome! Wow. Brings back memories. Summer Love in Chilliwack, Plaza of Nations, and Winter Love at Hemlock. Dancing in slush! Remember 311 Water Street, those loft parties? And Summer school 2000 was a blast too. And my first party in 1997 I think? On an island somewhere off N Van.... Fantasy Island I think it was called? Wow! Lol I have so many fliers and newspaper clippings somewhere in a closet. Wish more pictures were taken back then! On second thought - It probably good that they weren't!
Aah the days of vinyl, Summer Love, Sweet Parties, Doh Boy, Chilliwack, Nukleuz, TKO, infolines, Raverside, Plaza of Nations, that hall out in New West, 96.1 Gspot radio, Station Street, good times with good friends. Some of the best years of my life...
This brought back so many great memories. FF, BASSIX, Lounge X, Frostee, G-Spot, Ra-House, Laramy. I miss the Plaza and the BC Room. Thanks for sharing this. LOL @ Green CU's.
4:40 Lucky Charms, was the rave i produced, holy shit! thanks for the wacked out memories... whoa! and again at 5:52... i remember making each of those tickets/passes... with the extra security 'heart window'... DOOD! THANK YOU for documenting all along & for sharing it now, what a gift!
Holy shit, what an awesome video. Some familiar faces in there. I can't remember the name of the girl at 2:23 but I used to know her well. Pretty sure I used to help her with "supplies". heh =D Groovy at 3:02 !! So many great memories from that scene. Was at nearly every one of those. Most people knew me and my crew from that era. Quite a few of us, and we never missed a weekend.
Hey!!! lol This was pure fate I think.... lol I was browsing for some footage to use in my video, and BAM!!!! I saw you commented on this. hahaha you were a raver?
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT????!!!! AMAZINGGGGAAA!!! Oooooo me too, sort of... I really got into it back in 98' myself but couldnt go anywhere, I think I was like 11, or 12? This is hilarious! I wish i could have ran away to actual parties back then lol... especially Canadian trance parties in those years! :) :) :) :)
+Missy Chrissy btw thats also really cool that you dj too!!! We both started at the same time it seems too! lol awesome, okay catching my breath now.... lol
If I could get my hands on a Scotty Oh set from a riverside party in 2000 I would be so stoked.. to feel that 3am ecstasy high fueled vibe again would send shivers up my spine ;D
Wow! I remember going to so many of those parties but not the parties themselves. Must have been those green CUs that were around at the time. They were the size of bloody horse pills. Thanks for posting this video man. It brings back great memories of the people and the feeling of the time. Ah those Mitchel Island parties were definitely unique. That venue and the one at the bottom of Oak Street and Marine Drive were dodgy spot with only one washroom and a "functioning" water supply.
Hey, I remember some of those parties. Hey actually some of those photos are ones I took, Event / Apex / Plug n' Play / Slinky. Hey look, I'm even in one of them 5:24. Ahh the memories. --RaveHard-RaveSafe--
I can remember falling asleep *SOMEHOW* on a see of pack packs at 5 Deadly Venoms 3 and woke up to some crazy Happy Hardcore. It looked like a mad panic for everyone to run away and get out while they still could lol.
4:40 Sheep costume made by my grandmother for my friend Brad. She had no idea why he wanted to wear it but was happy to contribute to the "spirt of the times".
I have 4 cassette tapes of the G-Spot (bootlegged off 96.7 I think?) from Friday nights, 12-6AM, featuring Danny V, Huda Hudia, Tony Faline, Scotty Oh, and so much more. Anyone else archive that stuff? I would love to trade.
Through the years I have searched for pics, vids from Summer Love 98-2000. Hard to believe that there is virtually nothing out there. Does anyone know of anything? I remember they even had commercials/teasers for Summer Love '99 on their website. Would LOVE to see those again Thanks for the vid. Saw the flyer for Abduction, which I remember being a fav of mine but don't remember who was spinning. Anyone?
Yikes I played a few of those (including Mitchel island) and am SUPER glad there's no social media proof of it! "Party like no-one was looking" will never be a thing again :(
i used to sneak into five otuesdays and they never i.d there omg everytime i watch this calix it makes me smile and i see more an more everytime i watch this video best video evers
The Vancouver Rave Scene in the early 2000s was a pulsating kaleidoscope of nocturnal chaos, where bodies gyrated in a hypnotic trance amidst a cacophony of electronic beats. It was a realm where the boundaries of reality blurred, and the collective consciousness sought refuge in a transcendental dance of ecstasy and liberation. Amidst the sprawling urban landscape, warehouses and abandoned spaces transformed into sanctuaries of sonic alchemy, where the disenchanted youth sought solace and connection in the rhythmic embrace of music. Yet, beneath the surface of this euphoric frenzy, a haunting undercurrent of existential yearning permeated the air, as individuals sought meaning and escape from the tumultuous world outside. The flickering lights, the pounding bass, and the sweat-soaked bodies cast shadows of fleeting euphoria against the backdrop of a society longing for a semblance of utopia. But as dawn broke and the music faded, the ravers dispersed, carrying fragments of transcendence back into their daily lives, forever transformed by the intoxicating allure of the night.
97-2000 for myself.. But i see no mention of ORGANIX, the PsyTrance/Goa night that is STILL RUNNING! The absolute full on best vibe that has never died. Started in 95-96 at Madisons. Still running to this day, full on facebook /pages/Organix/151713501533375. Best Party in North America. The HEART of PLUR. I've long since moved away, kids.. no partying. But come on.. if you are longing for that flavour.. it's right there and never left. Every thursday.
I remember sequels to a lot of these parties, I'm 2000-03. 'Twas savage times, gettin stuck in the Granville "raver Bermuda Triangle" for days on end non stop. Anyone here remember dales eviction party? Or that phone msg that got turned into a remix? "Michael Mann this is Chuggster, how's it going? Hmm? Fucker!" Lol +8. I still have that song in the back of my hard drive.
Wow, such great memories. I cant believe I haven't run across this until today. Are these your personal pictures? We must have run in the same circle, I see a ton of pics of France and Khan, Slurpee and Anita, and a host of others I recognize but don't recall their names. Hard to believe its been like 15 years, lulz.
I'm sure at 6:20 near the centre pillar that's me sketching out in the purple caffeine hoody. I remember finding a lot of dropped cash that night. I still have packed in a box almost every flyer in this video.
Talla 2XLC dropping ZombieNation, Kevin Shiu skipping decks in the theater, ghostbuster tshirt eyeball buggin', 3 apples high? Captain Theo where'd you go? Beware, the future is the reaper coming to take today... Thanks for the video you reminded me of everything I threw away.
i was in this scene and this is the first video i have ever seen. my name is tootsie i was the bald girl almost everyone knew me and i knew almost everyone. to having slim spin at my afterparty to czech banging it at sfu at some random gig. this video made me smile i remeber most fondly the ferry boat ride to victoria for the biggest rave ever at that time at the mem centre omg was a blast and up in britania on the beach full moon parties .339 station street maybe we were pals

LOL this is when massives were friggin MASSIVE (and a bit unsafe) Looking at this REALLY brings me back. During this period P.L.U.R. was in SUPERDUPER high effect. The thing is tho...WOW IM FEELING OLD NOW XD. Oh well, its good to say "parties aint what they were 10+ years ago" Just turned 29 this year and looking back on this period, i have to say, these parties were the time of my life. I partied mostly in SoCal, but LOL livin in WA now. i haven't partied for over 10 years QQ
Hey guys, I am new in Vancouver, I'm part of the YMCA program, it's an exchange with students around Canada, I love raving and I wanted to know if there was a nice and friendly place where I could take my buddies and introduce them to good and old Techno (Chris Liebing and Len Faki style... you name it). Thanks alot !
I'm pretty sure we all busted up lines on those tables LOL. If those security cams worked, nobody gave a shit. I can remember some chinese dude like cleaning up trays and stuff this dude nicknamed OD was stealing lightbulbs and shit HAHAHA oh the days:) lol
Can't say I was nearly old enough to take part in what looked like copious amounts of fun. But just looking at it then and looking at it now it's just not the same.. Wish I could go back in time! I was at most of these parties!! Except the 2000 ones. After raves became legal I didn't go anymore. ET BROS? Aren't those the guys who took everyone's money from the EXPO 98 ticket sales for a party that never happened? I wasn't a fan after that. Anyone remember the Liquid E afterhours? In the alley behind Seymour. Definitely my favourite afterhours venue. Thanks for all these pics! Such an amazing era for partying! I have a ton of old rave photos from this time, but they're hidden away in my storage unit.

Wow, so funny to see this. It all felt so fresh and modern at the time. We were the future, the new generation, living life on the cutting edge. It's funny now to look back at it as just another ephemeral youth culture fad. Great times nonetheless. :-)
The first rave I ever went to was a huge outdoor multi stage event in a farmers feild in Chilliwack; it was the summer of 1999. I cant remember the name, anyone else know?

Not anymore! They brought back 1200's last year. I'll always play vinyl, I love it too much.
