Great. I’d like Billy’s amp closer to the camera mic.

Two greats. Billy's prowess shines, but so does Jeff's jazz knowledge and prowess. Both have great catalogs of material. Billy with Talas, Roth, Vai, Winery Dogs; Jeff with Jean Luc Ponty, Holdsworth, etc. Here, history was made by two of the top players. It's not a competition, is it? Two guys, two different styles. I hate the "Who's better?" thing. We're all individuals, and all different.

All very true; I hate the "who's better" thing too.
On the other hand, I also love what John McLaughlin said about being spoiled when it comes to jazz performance, saying "I like it when there's blood on the floor"! 😁🎸🎶❤️

I wonder if Jeff has watched this like recently and about half way through thought, "... What was i doing, man!?!".. lol

I doubt it...he's probably thinking..."I know so much more theory than Billy yet he scares me" 🤣😂🤣

Billy is SUCH a great player that my attention is how to compliment someone without any musical limitations whatsoever.

Wow! I don't know why, but it sounds to me like improvisation over "Riders on The Storm"

It’s not that both of their playing isn’t extraordinary impressive…..but, as a bassist, I’ve finally hit the point (after 35 years of playing) where I don’t need the fast riffing or soloing. A great pocket, and a tasteful bass line that best supports the song is all that I need anymore.
I just wish that I would’ve started approaching the bass that way 35 years ago.
The best bassists always seem to disappear into the song.

I was one of those guys that knew their parts and just locked in with the drummer. Was never fancy or did flashy solos(mostly because I just didnt have that skill), and ways gainfully employed for 17 years
Having said that, I ALWAYS to just at some point during the gig, have the guys go "Take it away, Don!" and play a Billy-esque solo and have the crowd be like "Where the "F" did THAT come from" and that would be it, go back to being the groove guy..
Just never happened. Oh, well LOL

True nature of bass, however if you have some ego, even the slightest amount (Jeff and Billy have a lot), you will either end up playing some of this stuff or changing instrument.

Berlin should have jumped to a 6 string years ago. Too much vocabulary to be limited in range both up and down. B to C would have given him more space.

      I think he prefers 4 strings...as Wooten...
