    I cannot wait to see the harvest of the southern Anna. I'm growing one plant from seed I bought from you guys. It was kind of late but it looks better than all the other squash. I planted traditional Waltham and my first squash was small and shameful.

    Hmmmmm....You just made me think. I only plant C mochata squashes like your South Anna butternut because of their resistance to vine borers, they grow beautifully. I wonder if I snuck a few C Pepo’s like your acorn or C Maximas like buttercup, IN WITH THEM, would that confuse the borers enough that I could get some squash. I don’t spray anything I just work to maintain the best living soil possible and usually plant things well suited my area.

    Hey Travis, could you perhaps on one of your review videos give me your Best Tasting varieties. I know you have to grow for production but my garden is for just little ole me and I want to grow the best flavorful. Especially Okra. I like Jing Orange (red one) and I have Alabama Red (fat one) but I'm lookin for the old fashion green one. Can you recommend a variety? like it to be heirloom because I save my seeds for monetary reasons. Thanks

      To be honest, we can't tell a huge difference in taste on many okra varieties. But the Jambalaya tastes great and is the most productive.

    I've never used the drip irrigation you talk about. However we have decided that is the way to go for us next year here is South Carolina. How long do you leave the drip on and how often do you use it? Do you somehow measure "by the inch" the amount of water or is it a matter of a learning curve? Thanks.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can easily tell from the color of the soil if the plants have had enough water. You'll see a dark ring around the rows when the soil is saturated.

    I have tomatoes growing in garden ground, they are firing up in the bottom ant any size. What am I doing wrong? Also my green beans are turning yellow at the base what is wrong please.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the bottoms of the tomatoes are rotting, that's called "Blossom End Rot" and is caused by a calcium deficiency. It can easily be fixed with some of this (hosstools.com/product/pelletized-gypsum-soil-conditioner/). Put a handful at the base of each plant and water it into the soil.
      If plants are yellow, it's usually a result of not enough nutrients or too much water. If they aren't being overwatered, they probably just need some fertilizer.

    Being from south Florida. I'm still laughing about how close you planted south Anna. Those Seminole genetics produce 40ft+ vines on the regular. I know the lady with the oldest barn in davie. It's an old Indian burial mound there. You should see the pumpkins growing wild hanging from the trees. It's a real mind blowing sight to see. I'm gonna plant some south Anna I bought from u under some trees I have so they trellis. I'll also row by row like u...but I was thinking 20ft between solid 1 ft planting rows. After seeing u yours. I might go 12ft center to center instead

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So far the Silver Queen variety has been our most productive as far as heirlooms go.

  • @jawick
    @jawick 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your okra productivity is somewhat skewed when you have jambalaya planted in 4 rows and only one row of each of the others. Plant for plant in my garden, everything depends on the year. Last year, jambalaya, baby bubba, and Burgundy were a bust while Lee and Green Velvet did well. This year Go Big and red velvet are excelling while jambalaya and Burgundy aren't too far behind, but Lee, Clemson Spineless, and Green Velvet just aren't producing as they have in the past. But my two best lady finger sellers are Nombo Giant and Elephant Tusk. Nombo Giant is hands down the best okra one can grow as they stay tender up to 7 inches long and are big sellers in areas with large numbers of people of Filipino backgrounds.

    • @gardeningwithhoss
      @gardeningwithhoss  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll be glad to do a future video and compare the harvest per row. Nothing compares to Jambalaya. I've done this trial at least 3-4 times and the results are always the same.
