    Do you think much time can be found by using all the rpm or are you finding better torque and times off the red line

    • @navystrackstar
      @navystrackstar 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely not. Each bike has a specific point in each gears RPM range when the power begins to drop off so holding it all the way to red line for each rev cycle is wasted energy and doesn’t benefit you. The only time going to red line is necessary is if you’re in a segment of the track where shifting is wasted time so you stretch the gear into the turn till you need to downshift. Typically only really need to do that while racing or going for a hot lap at a track day. Recommend that you get your bike dyno’d so you can see the mapping for your bike exactly so you know where you should be shifting to maximize your power output.

    • @joshherrin
      @joshherrin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      This video was purely to show correct lines and braking points for someone at the track day level. I go off of feel but that comes with 25 years of racing experience. My advice to you would be to rely on your OEM shift light for the best shift point. The higher the RPM, the harder it usually is to turn the bike, so I usually try to be in a higher gear if possible. With that being said, I love the way the motorcycle feels in the corners with higher RPM because it gives me more confidence in the front tire because the engine braking helps add more weight on the front tire. The downside to that is you might end up having to grab a gear in an awkward position on the bike exiting the corner. That’s where GP/reverse shifting comes in handy because no matter what, if you’re in a left handed corner or a right handed corner, you can shift up easily. 👍🏼

      Josh Herrin ...that was a lot of good info you just typed. Thank you👍

    • @neland
      @neland 4 ปีที่แล้ว

       @Josh Herrin Is that why you shift early to 3rd during 5a? Bc it's awkward to shift mid-6? Or just because lower rev at that point gives you easier ability to point the bike for exit of 6? I was experimenting with where to shift for 6 last time I was on THill east. Being in 2nd coming into 6 means you're top of the rev range when exiting and still leaned over... and for me that's a bit uncomfortable bc, on the beemer, top of the rev in 2nd means front wheel is off the ground (and I'm not really at that level yet, ya know?).

    Will the "line" change doing a sub 1:50 (lap record is a 1:45 or 46 I think) or the braking and turn-in points? Line looked like the fast line to me. You hit every apex cone perfectly and picked up the gas at every apex cone perfectly as well.

      "MotoAmerica Superbike Champion Cameron Beaubier emerging with the quickest lap - a 1:45.2, which is a few tenths slower than his best at Thunderhill."
      So I think around 44 high on 1000 and 46 on 600 if I remember correctly, with the "cyclone" deviation as shown in the video.
