I am nearly 50, and it's natural that you drift away from contemporary music a bit. But this album is a masterpiece and stands up against anything released in my lifetime, or just ever. There are so many great songs on it, but this is possibly my favourite. It starts off so innocuously, but then it's weirdly uplifting despite arguably being quite scathing lyrically.
I was driving home from a funeral and this came on the radio. When 2:55 hit, I was wrecked. It's an emotional drain, but like all great music, it takes you on a helluva journey.
We are so lucky to have music to get us through life's challenges and difficulties. Your comment brought back a painful memory from the month after my father paased away. I was keeping it together pretty good but one night I was listening to songs on ramdom and the song Sæglópur by Sigur Ros started playing. Somehow that was the straw that broke the camels back. I have never wept as hard as I did that night alone in my room. I needed to get all that pain and grief out though, bottling it up would have done me no good. It's beautiful that music can guide our emotions in healthy ways.
This is the last actual CD I bought, back when it was newly released. My then boyfriend, now husband, and I went to a CD store to look around and I randomly picked this up. The cashier said "this is such a good album" as he rang it up. He wasn't lying. It's one of my faves. It always takes me back to that time period...a much simpler time. 2010 was a good year.
Best album of its era, pure emotion
Love "PURE EMOTION!" I could not agree more!
Whole Album is a masterpiece

Last truly great album to win a best Grammy.
Listen to their first album. It's by far their best imo.
They build it up just to burn it back down.
A song of the times.
This song forever has its spot in my heart. It’s got the type of vibe that I feed off of
Ten years gone and this is fresh as ever.
One of the most underrated Arcade Fire songs. Love the transition from the solo back into the main motif.

You should've been listening to funeral then
The best. A truly stunning and uplifting song...absolutely brilliant and like a good French wine just gets better with age.💚
Uplifting? Jesus, this song is terrifying to me.
Great song, though.

Anyone read Lyrical Darkness? There's a story about this song in there, it's great.
Best Pixies song from the 1970s...
Long live the "Lumpen proletariat"!
I feel like this describes some kind of semi-intelligentsia hipsters more than lumpens.
