- I've thrown this quick video together to explain in Stellarium, how to find South in the Southern Hemisphere without the use of any instruments. It came out a bit rough but it's still comprehensible though (I think). I don't know if Stellarium is wrong, or, if I just didn't set up Stellarium correctly.
Excellently illustrated! Thank you. Great for when your electronic GPS goes haywire when down south.....
Thanks👍
I've still got your last live and some others vids loaded up in tabs ready to watch. I just haven't had time for anything. Crankin' out to many vids lately🤪
@@nofanfare7426 Agh, don't you worry about that mate. It's great that you're putting out content. The more the better. The game is on :)

Hi, Nick.
the north star will never move
and the south star is always below the horizon and we never see it
Opposite in south hemisphere.

Have you ever sighted the setting sun with a compass? I’m at approximately 38°S and in summer I can observe it setting slightly south of west.
This, however, doesn’t mean we live on a ball as all evidence has proven we do not. I have done experiments for myself that definitively proves the earth is a plane.
I’m simply interested if any others as far south as me have made this observation with a quality compass. Not a cheap one made for the “Northern hemisphere” as they don’t work the best this far south.
I used true north not adjusting for declination which is approximately 10°+…I have my reasons for not including declination. I won’t state them here.
I can’t find anyone else this far south to compare notes.
I say approximately as I will not give out my exact location (not even the longitude) to anyone I do not personally know.
No. It seems to from what I have seen though. I need to get a good compass, I had a couple of cheapies, the first one, IDK what happened to it, one day it decide to do a complete 180º on me, the next one had to much drag, I had to keep rocking it side to side to get the needle to move. I did do a video with it where I had to set it up quick 'cause the sun was about to rise, so I just put it down quick with North facing North on the backing plate (If that's what it's called), and tried to get the camera to pick up the degrees as I focused across it to the sunrise. The globers just did the usual and tried to mock me saying I didn't know how to use a compass. I do other stuff, so I haven't really got the spare cash to buy a good compass for 1 or 2 videos and never use it again.
