Louise Brooks is the most beautiful woman in the world in my opinion. I have seen every gorgeous woman that has graced Hollywood and there is absolutely no one to compare her to.
Louise was an absolute stand up person as well, rather than being jealous of her contemporary starlets she always spoke up for them in the years after and spoke well of all of them never wanting any of them to be forgotten.
I certainly wouldn't call tis "electronic music". I call this trash. And boringly repetitious. And by the way. "listen" and "truth in it" is NOT a rhyme. That's just laziness.
I bought the Criterion edition of this film back in 2007 - which I have watch the countless times. I'm unsettled by your edits, which most probably wouldn't pick up on but I find ruin the flow. I'm also not a fan of the music which seems repetitive and affected, the antithesis of Louise's qualities.
It’s tragic that Louise Brooks wasn’t allowed to have the career she deserved. She may have been the first modern actress with unpretentious charm and mesmerizing natural beauty. She was amazing.
Louise was a dancer before becoming an actress. This accounts for her fluid dance moves and spectacular body. "Lie to Me" was originally released on Depeche Mode's 1984 LP "Some Great Reward". It's interesting to note that Louise Brooks was still alive when the album was first released. This version is a 2009 remix as stated above.
yeh, I thought that was DMode, and it fits. Dancers are very disciplined (think Jennifer Lopez)and it stays with them no matter what they do onward in life.
There has never been anything as beautiful, as visually arresting as Louise Brooks on film. Hollywood directors didn't know what to do with the pure sexual magnetism of her onscreen presence... here so alive, so potent, your heart skips a beat! It took German filmmaker G.W. Pabst to capture it in its fullness. You have the real deal here! That once in a lifetime perfection. As they say, she was a stunner! Compelling beauty and eroticism all in one package. Brooks was ahead of her time.. almost contemporary in her look, her sexual attitudes. Onscreen, she was a radiant icon of female desire!
Another thing that makes her great is that her acting is very modern. That is, she doesn't really do the exaggerated mugging that many silent film stars employed. Really watch her. She's much more subtle than her contemporaries. Had she been working at the time of Elia Kazan, Brando, etc., she would have fit right in.
I love what you're doing with Louis Brooks films! The music is great, and makes me realize I can play whatever music I choose when watching silent movies.
This is fantastic. Louise Brooks is such an iconic beauty. When I first saw her images in a Vanity Fair magazine retrospective, I could not believe she was a star from the 1920's. Apart from her beauty, she seemed so ahead of her time. The Dominatrix remix is a perfect fit for her unique persona. Somehow I think she would have been a big fan of Depeche Mode.
I think that what you see is who she was. She said as much... that she knew nothing about acting, had no training, and just had to be herself no matter the role. She comes across as genuine because she IS being genuine. Her lack of training is obvious in her few talkies, and her career was sabotaged by those whose bullshit she wouldn't tolerate... In spite of that, she was indeed, THE screen Goddess of the silent era.
For anyone that doesn't know the lovely song " Pandora's box " is a tribute song for Louise Brooks by the 80's band OMD , check it out . It did a lot to keep the memory of Louise alive . R.I.P beautiful lady
Best snippet of dance moves since Jenna Ortega. I'm entranced by that move @1:29 and again @1:35.. she flips out with her right hand while dipping her knees as if to say, 'you bore me' or, 'sell that down river' or 'times up' or 'talk to the hand'.. it's just Regal.
Yes, yes ... me, too. It's a Charleston move, but something about the way she does it absolutely transcends time and categories. It's startling and haunting.
The term "delightfully coquettish" is the tiny, first step on the long road that ends with the mesmerizing Ms. Brooks. She must have hard to resist when cranked up to full Boss Coquette level.
@@guardianobserver6593 I don't understand your comment, if you would please explain. I don't get the connection between young women, rich old men, short pants, and mustaches.
Sans doute une des plus belles actrices de tous les temps. Intemporelle et mystérieuse. Quelle dommage qu'elle ne soit pas née 40 ou 50 ans plus tard. Elle serait une icône absolue !
She had it in her to become a great actress, but she didn't seem to care about it until it was too late to save her career. Her three films in Europe are now considered to be masterpieces, but in the late twenties (particularly because they weren't talkies when talkies were the rage) they all bombed at the box office. She had four great films to her credit: the European films and Beggars of Life.
Louise' beauty remains undimmed, time cannot tame her ; a luminous light that lit up the heavens in film and in life. She captures your soul and never lets You go, nor do you want freedom from her impossible allure. It is intoxicating, She possesses You, makes You weaker and stronger at the same time. This is the true power of The Goddess.

The greatest American movie star that Americans have never heard of. Unfortunately, the accompanying music is completely inappropriate for a character from the "jazz-age". G. W. Pabst's film of "Pandora's Box" is remarkable, even today, The story was also turned into a famous opera by Aban Berg, entitled "Lulu".
I'm 65 and think the same thing. Louise is one of my favorite stars ("the girl with all the gifts") and Pandora's Box one of my favorite movies. And dear God don't get me started on Myrna Loy...
Her thinking possibly after it could be all forgotten, Ow no not true Louise when other artist should be remembered because they did much you will still be lighting up the cameras because Louise Brooks that's what you did.
I wouldn't say that Louise created the flapper style because it had already existed for a few years before Louise hit the scene. However she perfected a certain flapper look and attitude that was very stylized and thoroughly modern. I would she was the perfect modernist flapper while Clara Bow and Colleen Moore were the more traditional flappers.
No one can claim that they created the flapper style but a few famous actresses from the 20s can definitely say they created their own flapper brand and Louise's is one of the most enduring and iconic flapper looks for sure! Others were Clara Bow, Colleen Moore, Joan Crawford, etc.
Sorry, but Depeche Mode doesn't fit with Louise Brooks. What's wrong with her dancing to the wonderful music from her own time? Is it too, like, totally yesterday or something?
93 years ago now. I bet no one on the planet remembers this!! Though I'm not keen of the hairstyles of the day. I look at my grandma's wedding photo of about exactly the same time period, though in Australia, her fashion is almost identical. Lucky Louise didn't have a full breast with the outfit she was dancing in!
Over the decades, how many women danced their way through horrific abuse, sexually, psychologically, and physically, just to try to be acknowledged for their physical and vocal talent. It’s sad.
She reminds me a lot of Josephine Baker. They both had those long leggy beautiful bodies and were so modern. In another time they could have played buddies in a film together ❤️
Louise didn’t need to talk. Her eyes, her smile and her body spoke perfectly.
Louise Brooks is the most beautiful woman in the world in my opinion. I have seen every gorgeous woman that has graced Hollywood and there is absolutely no one to compare her to.

Her screen presence was hypnotizing.

Electronic music is perfect for Louise since she was about 100 years ahead of her time!
I certainly wouldn't call tis "electronic music". I call this trash. And boringly repetitious. And by the way. "listen" and "truth in it" is NOT a rhyme. That's just laziness.

Very beautiful lady, hard to believe this was 100 years ago just about.
See that old guy at the beginning? He looks to be about 60 or 65 years old. That means he was born about the time the US Civil War ended. It's insane.
@@MrSloika omg! You’re right….That’s so bizarre!

My God. This works. It REALLY is GREAT! You capture my favorite actress of all time brilliantly. Thank you.

It’s tragic that Louise Brooks wasn’t allowed to have the career she deserved. She may have been the first modern actress with unpretentious charm and mesmerizing natural beauty. She was amazing.
She was offered opportunities but preferred to blaze her own trail. That's part of her allure.
She wasn't willing to play the game. The problem with movies now is that everyone plays the game totally, and that's all there is...
